@AngeliaDR - First, a high quality protein shake is not a compromise, it is the healthiest choice you can make. Choose a shake with a complete protein - undenatured whey (cold filtered process) is the best due to its complete amino acid profile. It also has a higher biological value (BV) than an egg. A whole raw egg has a…

The truth is our food has deteriorated in nutritional value since 1950. Do the research. It matters.

Here's my take on the recipe. I'm a peanut butter fan but have switched to almond butter. The trick is removing the grains :) Enjoy! http://eatcleanandbelean.com/flourless-banana-peanut-butter-pancakes/

This is so true - its called sarcopenia. We also need to eat more complete protein as we age. From wikipedia: Sarcopenia (from the Greek meaning "poverty of flesh") is the degenerative loss of skeletal muscle mass (0.5-1% loss per year after the age of 25), quality, and strength associated with aging.

@kelsmcdowall - I looked at your food diary and only see one entry so I can not assume you are eating this way everyday, but you need to make sure you are eating protein. Every cell in your body is made of protein, your body requires it. Its not just for bodybuilders. Also when you work out alot your body goes through…

@juliafromrf Being vegan is a great choice! I would look at alternative protein supplements that contain pea and hemp. They are the most absorbed proteins in vegetarian form. PM/friend me and I can give you a link to read. :)

Proteins are in good shape - you are eating plenty of those. That is always the first thing I look at. Your protein sources are pretty good - chicken and tuna. I see you are using a Whey protein which is good. Make sure there's nothing artificial in that like sweetner or colors or flavors. Also no soy. When are you eating…

The best protein on the planet is undenatured whey protein from happy cows free of antibiotics and steriods. This metabolizes the best and has all the amino acids you need. Look for around 240 calories with 6-8 grams of fiber to keep you full. A typical rule of thumb is .8 g of protein per 1 kg of lean body mass. It…

Hello again! Look for undenatured whey protein with nothing artificial in it like sweeteners or colors. What type of muscle milk are you drinking? Why are you drinking it? When? Post workout?

Hi SueJo - Drink an extra glass of water for each caffeinated beverage you consume because caffeine dehydrates you. Smoothies and protein shakes (if made with water) should count toward your consumption of water. A general rule is you should drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water daily. Drinking water aids in…

It is almost impossible to drink too much water. Most people are not hydrated enough. Diets do not work. You need to find something that works for you for the long term. Find a proven program that addresses all the body's hormones that is backed by scientific research. Don't listen to the commercials for Jenny Craig or…

Cheese is not considered a optimum source of protein. People can argue this point but there are better sources. Cheese is mainly for taste and not nutrition. And that sucks because I LOVE CHEESE!!!!

MyIrishSpirit - Education - Get Jillian Michael's book Master Your Metabolism. I wouldn't advise consuming protein before your workout. Wait until after. The reason is because if you are strength training (which you should be) you are breaking down muscles. Protein rebuilds them. Pre-workout you want to choose something…

Depending on your activity level the Institute of Medicine recommends 0.8 grams of protein per 1 kg (or 1.7 lbs) of LEAN body mass (not entire body mass). You are trying to generate lean muscle when consuming protein. The math looks like this: If you have 150 lbs of lean body mass (weight yourself on a scale that gives you…

I'm going to repost from another message earlier about protein. Find the cleanest source of protein you can - preferably undenatured whey protein with a low-glycemic index. Our entire body is made up of protein so you need to feed the body with it to build every cell from your hair to your nails to your organs, etc. Here…

My brother is a marathon runner and it is typical for runners to gain weight. I am not a nutritionist - just sharing what I know. With the amount of running you are doing your exposing your body to internal oxidative stress which triggers your cortisol levels to go up. Check out this video.…
