55% of nurses are overweight? That's much better than the 69% of Americans in general. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/overwt.htm What gets me is the number of healthcare professionals who smoke. Come on... really?

10/2 - 12* 10/3 - 12 11/10 - 17* Total: 41 miles *fixed gear rides By this time last month, I was up to 172 miles already. This is what business travel does, and I have to travel again next week. Meh.

So it's official... I *did* drop about a half pound while I was on the road this week. Yay for me. So officially, I'm down 22 lb. since mid-August. It looks like I'll be traveling next week as well. Here we go again. I'm going to try to stay in Homewood Suites if I can. They serve dinner as well as breakfast with the room…

When you're not on the plan, do you mean you eat too much/don't exercise, or that you're not tracking?

My wife doesn't ride very much, but when she rides regularly, the miles come up pretty quickly. Just get out and ride and they will come to you.

The key is the calories. Secondary is maintaining a balance. Try to eat natural and/or complex carb foods and the sugar hit to your system isn't as bad.

Then go for it. You gotta do what works for *you*. :drinker:

It all depends. If you plugged in a 1 or .5 pound per week loss, shorting yourself 200 calories spent on a workout is perfectly fine. If you selected 2 pounds per week, yeah, maybe you shouldn't put yourself into starvation mode.
-
If you're seeing results, why do you doubt its effectiveness? Keep it going, you're doing great! When I exercise, if I don't feel I need extra calories, I don't eat them. It just adds to your calorie deficit and will help with weight loss. Don't starve yourself, but why eat calories you don't feel you need?

Wait.... WUT?

Yes, absolutely. Find foods that have only limited sugar, or almost no sugar, and snack on those. But beware you don't feed a different craving on a rush-crash basis.

Again, I urge the original poster to read the South Beach Diet book. Phase one is pretty much what the first quote says: eliminate all carb/sugar dense foods for a couple weeks. Some people get into that roller coaster habit of feeding their carb cravings, crashing, and feeding them over and over again. Carbs in themselves…

Absolutely. And carby/sugary foods are often very calorie dense. Everything in moderation, but understand that the makeup of sugary foods makes moderation difficult. When I really need a sweet fix, I'll have a square of Ghirardelli dark chocolate. One square is only about 65 calories but it seems to really satisfy my sweet…

I"ve had success with the South Beach Diet, which is a low-carb plan. I'm not saying you should do SBD or even that it would work for you, but I suggest getting a copy of the book (your local library probably has it) and read what it has to say about carbs and sugar, and maybe even attempt to follow Phase I. The key to the…

You look at yourself every day, so change from one day to the next is very small. Additionally, you said yourself you're not where you want to be. So if feels like you're spinning your wheels. However, the receptionist at work doesn't take active notice of you every day. She's not invested in your journey. And yet she…

Amazing the benefits of even small changes. Keep up the good work!
