yeah, thats what i'd do! if your gym opens up real early,or stays open till late at night, you will beat the rush hour.

10k in 58:30 on elliptical, then i figured "that was too easy", now on the treadmill im struggling with 5k in about 42 minutes (but that at 4.5 % incline) and i feel like a slug, cause the ppl around me are doing 7 minute miles

yes, swimming is the best choice, but......could you please explain how the goat knocked u down the stairs? you were walking up the mountain and when the goat seen u, he charged?
-
Yeah, if it was me I'd get a house in Cali now that house prices are down 50%, maybe san jose or los gatos, or if i could afford it, the santa cruz mountains, or if i could tolerate the commute, santa cruz

TTT - incline running n e 1 ?

i dont know the north bay, but the east bay is cheaper, altho some parts of east bay maybe high crime. Also cheaper and a nice area is the south bay like san jose. And santa cruz and those mountains is awesome, and yes....maybe even magical. and lots of ppl commute from way inland towards sacramento. so the limitation is:…

Azdak- how did you figure METs for these to be equal to 10 METs? 6 mph @ 0 incline 3.5 mph @ 13% incline, etc. We were discussing this in our office, and couldnt figure out 4 mph @ _______% incline 4.5 mph @______% incline 5 mph @ _______% incline 5.5 mph @______% incline I ask cause i jog / run 4.5 mph at 4.5% incline.…

OP said "Im a 45 year old male, around 220, 6'1" tall, normal blood pressure and cholesterol. Have been fairly constantly active now for a couple of years whether it be elliptical, Spinbike, and running." healthy middle age male with normal BP and lipids and is constantly active needs to see a doctors because ???
-
dont go by any charts saying, for example, max heart rate = 220 - age. in an ideal world, you go to a doc, and he tests to determine what your max heart rate is in reality. other than that, if you feel healthy doing it, and not dizzy or any symptoms of overwork, then its healthy. yes, running is alot harder than elliptical…

the minimum (BMI = 17.5) and maximum (BMI= 25) are a good general indicator, but they are a world standard, someone considered to be ok weight in Islamabad, Pakistan maybe considered rail-thin in USA, and how can we take one number to be correct for both males and females? thats just inaccurate. and weight-lifter dudes…

and your results speak alot ! congratulations

i tried incline yesterday for the first time, I gradually went up to the maximum of 15 (degrees or percent? which is it?) and WOW! did it wear me out and send my pulse alot higher than staying flat. but that was only a test, today im gonna try more moderate inclines like half that (7.5%)
-
well i tried it and my lower back hurts a little but not too bad. what i dont understand is "dont lean with you back, lean from your ankles" im not sure I know how to do that ?!?!
-
bump TTT  useful stuff in this topic - for ex., when running on the treadmill, adjust the angle to where u feel like your falling forward, but do it gradually because calf pain can maybe result for 2-3 weeks. the end result, less stress on bones and muscles, etc.........
-
this uses a chest band to monitor your heart rate and some people say its annoying or chafes
-
the elliptical is VERY unrealistic. i can do 10k (6.2 miles) in 58:30 ( = 9:25 miles) on the elliptical with my heartrate at 130. but the treadmill is much harder, im doing 12:30 to 13:30 miles with my heart rate at 150. this correlates with actual road running, I discussed this at the office, someone said the elliptical…
