  • In for the rollover! 30 days ago I couldn't manage 10 sit-ups in a row. I can now manage that times 3 sets!
  • As other posters have stated - it's the other stuff fruit brings to the table - the micronutrients. Plus the fact the sugar in fruit comes with fibre, meaning it's digested slower, less likely to spike the blood sugar and less likely to leave you wanting to eat all the foodz. Most candy won't compare. An exception being…
  • Peanut butter. And nuts in general. Cannot stand the taste or texture. Anything that's had the fat stripped out to make it 'healthy'. That also takes all the taste and interest out of it. (And then the manufacturers add sugar, as insult to injury! ) I'm also with Seltzermint on a certain type of salad that was…
  • Enjoy yourself! Avoid sugary drinks (cocktails, spirits with full sugar mixers), drink plenty of water (this bit I always forget to do...) Also, I was out last night with old college friends. Lots of beer and tasty pizza. In order to fit it into my day, I walked at lunchtime and walked to the pub in the evening. That alone…
  • - but don't forget to start eating that meat protein again when you're above 66...
  • No. Unless you drink so much you're not at a calorie deficit for the next two days. OP, unless you have a medical reason to track and/or minimise your sugar intake, I'd ditch it. MFP sets the sugar limit very low and a couple of pieces of fruit will throw you out (as you've seen) . Plus you're tracking carbs anyway, so…
  • Me too...!
  • I'm thirding (fourthing) finding some exercises / stretches to lengthen the muscles in front of your shins. I've been plagued by shin splints since I started walking more seven months ago. Doing the stretches has really helped. (That's assuming you've got the right shoes and you're warming up and cooling down well...)
  • Me too! Although I didn't take up knitting- been doing it most of my life, but I did make it a big part of my evening ritual. Stops me from dipping into the snacks! Another big one I've learned, is only dishing up what I 'need' to eat. That is a reasonable portion of the meal - one that fits my calories and macros. If I…
  • Awesome job - it's the small steps we take in the right direction that get us to our goal.

  • Love it, love it, love it. And the results, I think, speak for themselves. You rock! And well done!!!
  • Congrats on your awesome legs! And stare away (though try not to when you're likely to walk into, or under, something...) Ever since realising I now have gaps between my fingers, I cannot stop staring at them! Mind you, I think part of the reason is that I'm terrified the gaps'll vanish again!
  • I just wanted to say that I've been following your journey with interest (yes, I've been lurking in your blog) and you are amazing. Not only have you achieved so much and had the major surgery to get you mobile again, but you've done it with smiles, confidence and fortitude. SInce finding your blog way, way back last…
  • First fitspiration... an ode to my walking boots. (Hope this works...)
  • Ditto. Especially if we get the Smile-era as well...
  • Weight loss isn't linear and one week without a loss is nothing. Sure it's frustrating, but respoding to every change will drive you mad. What you need to do at the moment is take a deep breath and continue to do what you're doing. May be take the time to ensure you're weighing your food and logging accurately. If the…
  • As today was (hopefully) the start of a new intermittent routine - that is, when I get a lazy Sunday to myself - I'm logging this! Walked two miles to the swimming pool, swam laps for 45 minutes (50 laps - I'm slooooow), then walked two miles back home. Felt awesome (though arms are noodles, now), and am eating everything…
  • Oooh. Looks interesting. Unfortunately though it's going to clash with the start of C25K for me. While I'm sure I could do both, I don't want to push it and injure myself before I get that first 5k run under my belt.

  • Hi, I'm Hannah - 38, living in London with my wife and cat. I'm halfway through my 100lb loss and doing great so far! I'm now lighter than I was 15 years ago (finally!), have just rediscovered swimming as an awesome thing to do and hope to start the C25K programme in, er, 19 days and counting! There's a UK Group on here:…
  • Nothing new to add here... my rewards are the same as a lot of people. Reaching halfway (almost there) - new running shoes and starting C25K. Going shopping for the shoes this week!!! Goal weight: a tattoo. I've wanted one for years, but haven't had an idea of what it should look like. But I know now what it should relate…
  • Don't be embarrassed, hon. (But if you don't want to post, don't. :flowerforyou: ) Our brains are tricksy, tricksy creatures and they often don't register a change in ourselves, either losing weight or gaining weight. I can barely see any difference in myself in the mirror and I've lost 49lb, 9" off my waist, 10" of my hips…
  • We're all confused in our own ways! There's huge societal pressure to have the 2.4 kids, the dog, two cars and the white picket fence. And, of course, the good job that pays for it all. And society gets all offended when we don't conform to that. One of the big things I've realised (in my self-loathing of not having a…
  • You are doing awesomely! :flowerforyou:
  • No advice, I'm afraid - in because I'm cutting down/quitting (can't admit to the second yet as I've not been more than 36 hours with a cigarette yet) and would love to know how to do it without piling the weight back on!
  • THIS! OP - not everyone is the same. I'm losing weight steadily on less than 150g carbs a day. There's someone up thread who has trouble getting below 300g a day. Who's right? We both are - different strokes for different folks. Work out what works for you and helps you achieve your goals and stick to it. Until it doesn't…
  • While I'm not doubting that's the case, please note that the data you're using to back this up is completely unsuitable for that purpose. From the rightdiagnosis site: WARNING! EXTRAPOLATION ONLY! NOT BASED ON COUNTRY-SPECIFIC DATA SOURCES. The following table attempts to extrapolate the above prevalence rate for Obesity…
  • They still make Cherry Garcia? Damn. You can't get it in the UK any more (and it's my favourite flavour! )
  • Me too!!!
  • I'd forgotten that! How could I? It happened to me! Mind you, I was eating about a kilo raw a day (over 2lb), for weeks. My hands went bright orange, and my overall complexion was rather off. Not quite oompa loompa, but definitely not right! Luckily, it reverses quickly when you stop / cut down radically.
