thanks so much everyone - I go out a couple of times during the week as well, I'm out tonight in fact! That's some good advice about walking past horses, dogs etc - I live and run in the countryside so come across a lot of animals, I'll bear that in mind

I think frustrated and confused sums it up very well! I guess I'm just at the stage now where my mind is ahead of my body. Or I can't get my body to do what I want it to. Or something.

Thanks for the advice everyone - I'm going to look up some breathing techniques I can practise at home. I'll work on my stretching and use a foam roller. I did get properly fitted for my shoes, but if lacing them less tightly doesn't work I'll look at getting some different ones. I love the idea of flags and signs but…

thank you - I'm going to start going out walking with my OH as well so I can familiarise myself with the area x
-
thank you - we tend to discuss routes in advance but I've just moved to the area so I'll just nod along blankly - it's one of those places where the roads all get called certain names by the locals etc. I think I am just going to tell them next time we go out to come back for me! I get so embarrassed about it but I guess…

thank you - I weigh 234lb and I have exercised in the past but I'd had a break of about 6 weeks because of a virus before I started running. I've never run before I started the group. I had a gait analysis and had the same problem as you - sore ankles which were "fixed" by my shoes. Yes I think you're right about…

I don't think he wants me to go faster - I think he wants me to run more, he says I should be able to run 20 mins non-stop by now and everyone else can. If anything he wants me to go slower, he keeps telling me to shorten my stride etc

I wouldn't say it's shin splints, just a bit sore. They are a size bigger than my normal shoes but I think I am lacing them too tight. I go running at 9am on a Sunday but I make sure to gulp down a pint of diluted squash or water in the hour while I'm getting ready. The coach said not to bring a drink with us. It's…

I'm over 200lbs and I am doing a walk/run programme similar to C25K with a local beginner's running group. It's great and there are people heavier than me doing better than me. Make sure you have the right shoes and just take really short strides, so that you're barely faster than a walking pace. You'll get the speed once…

Thanks everyone, I do feel a bit of a difference in them and they are a bit more painful than my others!

absolutely agree with build-up slowly. Get yourself a FitBit or pedometer and see how many steps you are doing in a normal day. I was doing 3000. So I aimed to get that up to 4000 - then once I was there, up to 5000 and so on. Like other people have said - you don't have to do it all in one go. And again, you can start…

that's really good advice thank you. I am going to try them out tonight and see what I think of them - I'm hoping I can return them if I'm not keen. They feel really comfy in the house, I did some running back and forth in the kitchen to try them out and they seemed okay.

yeah I have that same problem with the water weight and workouts - I just started a new exercise programme (running) and I am clinging onto water!
-
Oh god this makes me cry if I've saved my calories and someone else has eaten it! I agree that you're crying about the stress most of all, probably. I'd also recommend Geneen Roth's books on emotional eating they are so helpful xx

Congratulations! You look great x
-
thanks guys that's really useful :) I guess it must be different for everyone
-
Oh yeah I have the same thing - I don't feel bloated but I do feel sluggish, I weigh myself at about 10am because I weigh less than I do first thing. When I used to weigh myself at the gym, fully clothed, at 12noon I weighed 1-2lb less than I did naked on my scale at home first thing in the morning.

TavistockToad - I'm not really sure. Thanks everyone - I think it might be because it's challenging and it's recovery - not that the runs are very challenging but they are for me as a beginner!
-
I don't drink tea or coffee but I do drink Coke Zero so there could be caffeine in there - I've always drunk it though. Actually recently I've tried to get into a routine of switching the TV off at 8 or 9pm and going up to bed to read - because like you I'd seen several of these reports.

thanks everyone - can't think of any other changes. I was a little bit sore at first but not so much now, I stretch and stretch and stretch afterwards! Thanks runnerchick - I cycle between hating running but loving the feeling afterwards and loving the whole thing!

I think a lot of my running is a focus on mental - I always thought "I'd love to run but I can't do it" - and now I'm discovering I actually can, or am certainly building up to be able to, but it's a constant mental battle to tell myself I can. I was bullied a lot for the way I ran at school and it's taken me a long time…

That dress looks so lovely, you really suit it. I really struggle to get clothes that fit everywhere, as I'm somewhere between a pear and hourglass shape. I have narrow shoulders and waist but big boobs, belly and hips and my sizes are just all over the place!
-
woo that's great news bet you're chuffed! Oh my god - I just want to say thank you for sharing this - I move my scale and put it in a cupboard to stop myself weighing, then put it back when I weigh - and I haven't lost any weight even though I've lost inches. Maybe I need to recalibrate!!! Oh my god thank you!! Also…

haha thanks :D I want to work up to a 10k but don't think I'll be going beyond that!
-
I think I will be doing some park runs - I run with a group which is great as it's much more social
-
I looked at the park runs and love that they're free but I want to do one where I can be sponsored and don't think you can do that for a park run? I think I will book it next week :) very exciting

I'm not an expert but what has helped me to stop grazing is: -pre-logging and pre-planning my meals and snacks - I make sure to have a morning and afternoon snack and I set times for them so that I know when I will be eating -instead of cutting my calories from the 2500+ I was eating right down to 1700 where I want to be,…

Sam I'm going to try these compression socks on my next run I'll let you know how it goes! I'm trying walking on my heels for 30 seconds a few times a day as well
-
That's great advice thank you everyone xx

So should I be looking for flatter shoes to correct the problem?
