  • Keeping in mind as well the following: Sleep - and for some, more importantly when, and for how long, can play a role in weight loss. Lack of sleep, and lack of a good sleep time affects the body's ability to lose weight given the effects played on hormones, which can hinder weight loss and metabolism. Calories in/out…
  • Have you taken a look at your blood work? Chances are your blood sugar, cholesterol, etc and other variables are all down and lower. Can't ignore those benefits.
  • People who are triggered easily by others who are highly motivated or self-directed. The type who hates you immediately because you a) have high standards b) expect a lot of yourself c) believe in responsibility and personal accountability and/or c) push yourself.
  • Been there too. Both a family member (old) and a young colleague passed away in August. Prior to that losing weight was a matter of aesthetics and convenience. Now for me it's a matter of making choices to be healthy and appreciate health and life in general. Seeing death made me appreciate life all the more. With my first…
  • Hi folks: Fitbit charge hr Name: Eric Starting weight: 226.8 pounds Goal weight: 185 pounds Sleep: 5-6 hrs Daily steps: 13,000 Weekly: maybe around 90,000 Calories burned: maybe 1k from walking a day Weekly weight loss: 1 lbs or so.
  • It's back up.
  • I lost around 30 pounds in 6 months couple of years ago. I walked religiously. I was doing around 100 km a week and would go for 3-4hrs at a time. Walked at a 10km/hr rate and on an incline. 3-4 months later I noticed good definition in my legs. It's the simplest and cheapest form of exercise.
  • Yeah I have a fitbit charge hr and I track my steps closely. I average around 12k steps a day. Fitbit tells me I do around 8km total distance with 49 active minutes. I have the charge linked to my mfp account and apparently it's over 1000 calories. Weekly I do nearly 80k steps and yet I highly doubt I'm burning that many…
  • Hey all, Great conversation here. I've been on ww for several years and am trying out the new smartfit points. It's clear that they've definitely increased for certain items. I also find that I am gaining way more activity points. With my fitbit curve hr synced after a day of teaching and walking I'm a usual 15 activity…
  • Apparently there are syncing issues at the moment. I've done around 10k steps today but it's only registering as 6100...
  • Hello everyone, I am a former MFP user that lost around 30 pounds a while back and am looking to lose serious weight again. I would very much love to have a mentor, but I am in search of someone who knows their stuff. I would be very grateful for knowledgeable advice and suggestions. Here are my details: 37 male, married,…
  • I've done that to several people offering mentorships and haven't heard anything...Are we to continue until someone responds? I was under the impression that if your name is there then you reply back...
  • What do you consider exercise to be? To get the ball rolling, I would start off on walks with my fiance every other day for 30 minutes. Then we found it to be really fun and continued walking all over the neighbourhood. It became eventually a lifestyle. We would walk upward of 100 km a week at times. I have had to cut back…
  • Hey guys, I'm finding as many people have heard calculating my caloric intake confusing given the ton of stuff being thrown at me. Is there a mentor who would like to help my noob questionm? Here are my stats: Male, 35, 222 pounds, 5'11 Here's a bit of history: I lost around 22 pounds last year (from 235 pounds) using…
  • Wow. Big language there - branding the guy essentially as a failure simply because he removes items that are temptations? Sorry, but I totally disagree. Willpower can also mean that he has the resolve to remove these from his home. Removing temptation only to be branded a failure is a non-sequitur. Ridding one's bad habits…
  • Really? Denying yourself the foods you love to eat leads to failure? Drinking soda and eating those foods over time will likely lead to some type of organ failure lol. What about rejigging what you've been conditioned - through HFCS and other additives - to love to eat. What I find sad is that the foods people love to eat…
  • Ironically there are people who think the opposite - that by consuming 2 ice cream sandwiches, beers and fried chicken, you are depriving yourself off eating healthy foods....:)
  • Haha awesome job. I did the same years ago. Feels great because over time you get used to eating good food and having it around. Reminds me of what I read a while ago: "To this day when I walk down the snack aisle at the supermarket, I recite from the 23rd Psalm: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of…
  • Hi Starrjo, Long post ahead, here. Thanks for your open letter and congratulations on being courageous enough to put things the way you did in your letter. When we get to rock bottom I strongly believe that acknowledging small important things must take place in order to validate them when you yourself are swimming in an…
  • I am no expert but isn't it not a good idea to allow yourself to get the point where you are starving? Would you be able to snack on food before lunch? Between 5:30 and lunch (mine starts at 11:45) is a long time to go without food. Could you pace yourself every 3 hrs or so with some protein / carbs?
  • I'm a teacher as well. I have some fiber, carbs and protein with lots of water before I head off to school. Lunch I usually have leftovers like chicken breast, broccoli, salad with some fruit. By 3:30 when the mad rush is over and kids are gone for the day is when I get my crash coming in. I now pack around 10-20 almonds…
  • Why? Everyone has listed great reasons, many of which I share. For me the motivation lies in the journey. I am an intense sort of person, and I get wrapped up into a lot of details in general. I'm the type who finds a lot of personal satisfaction in choosing a goal, a challenge, etc and busting my *kitten* towards it until…
  • Everyone who has posted pics in this thread looks incredible. Holy smokes...very inspirational...Awesome
  • Toronto, home to our crackin' mayor...
  • LOL thanks for the heads up. I'll edit that if I can...
  • I did the same thing 3 months ago and havent looked back. I would also feel bloated after bread for whatever reason. I've done the same with dairy and pasta as well. Looking back, pasta and bread seem now like really cheap ways of getting calories.
  • Holy crap that's some excellent recovery in so short a time. Congrats
  • Another reason is that there is some serious nutritional warfare that is going on these days. 60% of Americans are apparently obese, with Canadians rapidly following them, along with most of the industrial world. People who eat whatever they want, when they want are slowly poisoning themselves, with healthcare costs easily…
  • Why exercise? Apart from the obvious health benefits, going day to day being happy with the state of things may appeal to people but personally I find it boring and uninspiring. I have mad respect for the discipline, patience, knowledge and dedication that goes into people exercising, setting goals for themselves and then…
