  • I'm debating whether I want to continue competing because it is so hard on the body, especially at my age. I may just decide to be the most bad*ss 60-year-old around next year. You certainly don't have to take it to that level. Just strive to do your best and push a little more every day. Who knows where you'll end up? I…
  • Last time I flew I had TSA looking at my license and then back at me several times. Time to renew my license thankfully.
  • I'll be 59 Sept 3rd. Didn't pick up weights until 55. Also went through breast cancer in there. If there is an easy trip through cancer, I had it, but I still give my trainer a hug after every workout because he could have saved my life. If I hadn't lost the weight, I may not have found the lump. My life lesson - if you…
  • NOTE ON HOW THIS WORKS - this is a totally shredded, flexed stage look that is DESIGNED to emphasize muscle (and gives an illusion of being bigger because of the extreme leanness) so not real life lol! Weight went from about 180 to 110 in that pic. I wear a size 2-4 in pants. In real life I have people say I'm TINY (5'2"…
  • On some stuff I only use ten pound dumbbells and I've turned into a bodybuilder lol. Don't be afraid of weight but you have to work up to things. When I started I was doing body weight squats against a ball against the wall and bench pressing the bar itself was a challenge for the future. Baby steps. Just shoot for…
  • Current age is 59 in Sept. March 2014 I was pushing 180 at 5'2". Started nutritionally then started hitting the gym to lift weights in April. Loved how the aches and pains seemed to just disappear. Lost forty pounds by August and then was diagnosed with breast cancer (losing the weight let me find the lump). Stuck to my…
  • My latest NSV is competing in my second bodybuilding competition (at age soon to be 59) and now being able to say I am nationally qualified! It's been a three-and-a-half year journey which not only entailed dropping seventy pounds (the first few months) but then going through breast cancer. Although the weight was gone…
  • Your body needs fat and it helps keep you satiated. I usually rotate adding in olive, macadamia nut, and avocado oil.
  • This. Only been doing it for a year (happy anniversary today!!) but I've gone from doing squats against a fitness ball against a wall to squatting 185 pounds (and have dropped from 171 pounds to current 117). Do NOT be afraid of lifting heavy. "Toning" is crap.
  • Check out PB2. I add it to protein shakes, etc. when I want a peanut butter fix without the fat. I've also considered reconstituting it with grape juice to make a peanut butter and jelly spread. Otherwise, just cut out the fat elsewhere and plan on the macro hit.
  • Age 56, 5'2" and currently aiming for 115 - 120 although I'm looking more for a "fit" body fat percentage in the 15-20% range rather than weight (especially since I've been doing heavy weights). Began at 170+ and am currently sitting at 124 and just picked up a size 4 pair of jeans! SO close!!
  • Always love pumpkin! Try putting it and pumpkin pie spices in oatmeal!
  • 55 and perimenopausal only because once in a blue moon I get to reset the clock. I've lost 40 pounds since March (with maybe ten to go to get to my high school weight!). Log your foods and lift heavy! Weight training has made all the difference for me.
  • Echoing heavy lifting. Been lifting with a trainer for the last two months. The difference in my body is astounding. They always say to find something you like and do it. Never expected it to be weightlifting - although I was a shot putter in high school so it's not like weights were a foreign concept. I've got another 8…
  • LOVE the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! As far as I know, they're the only protein bar my trainer will okay. Makes the basis of a quick lunch for me at work.
  • OK, had to read the thread a bit to figure out what was being discussed. I run Ad Block Pro (on Chrome) and never see any ads on MFP. I actually forgot they are even there except I had to sign in for my son on an incognito window to add some stuff for him and saw the banana ad. Ad blockers are your friends!
  • LOL. Glad you like it. I'm a school librarian so it fits.
  • Kashi Go Lean helps me get protein.
  • Mixing spaghetti squash and spaghetti is a good trick that really gives you a big plateful without too many added calories. You can also use bean sprouts! I used to use a bag of fresh bean sprouts (cooked a bit so they weren't crunchy). Can't find those often any more but canned bean sprouts work.
  • I usually just weigh out 2 oz. if I'm cooking for myself. However, after doing a lot of samples, I find that 2 oz. dry usually comes out to 5 oz. cooked. Run some after-cooking tests on your 2 oz. pasta and see where it comes out for you. Probably varies depending upon type of pasta and cooking length. Just get to know…
  • Of just turn a muffin pan over, tuck a tortilla in between the upturned muffin forms to create a bowl, and bake. I add jalapeno slices to the salad, too (you can get no heat ones if you just want flavor without heat).
  • We've been using Dymatize Iso-100 Hydrolyzed Whey. Recommended by my son's trainer and I don't mind the taste either. Even the vanilla mixed with just water is palatable. Like the chocolate better :-)
  • Most things I weigh before but you can combine it. From experience, I now know that 2 ounces of dry spaghetti cooks out to five ounces. By knowing that, I can cook spaghetti for both my husband and I and then just weigh out five ounces onto a plate for my portion.
  • Every day - but I know it's goes all over the place sometimes and don't sweat it. Sometimes I can mysteriously gain two and a half pounds overnight. It's just part of the game. As long as I can bring up a monthly graph and show a downward trend, I'm happy. I got an Aria scale that automatically logs it in to my fitbit…
  • So much this ^^^
  • Crossed that just a few pounds ago myself and know how good it felt. Congratulations!
  • Congratulations on your super accomplishment! You are an inspiration to us all.
  • LOVE MY FITBIT! So much, in fact, that I bought one for my son and a friend of his who are both trying to lose weight. He's lost 20 pounds now and I'm down 13. Personally, I use MFP solely to track food and fitbit to track exercise/calories burned. I've also just hooked up my fitbit account to earndit which gives me the…
  • For pumpkin lovers, I've found that adding pumpkin to oatmeal along with the normal pumpkin pie spices is great! Tastes like pumpkin pie. Just throw it all together and cook normally.
