Hmmm...first post and you're recommending someone (most likely) purchase a book? How very helpful of you.

I rarely eat 500 calories at dinner (that's what snacks are for!). I like making a Flat-Out wrap. I place the following in mine: 2.5 oz. meat (turkey, chicken, pork, etc.) spinach mushrooms tomatoes peppers black olives 2 teaspoons of "light" dressing That's a full meal for me, but since it's only around 250 calories...you…

In addition to all the posters suggesting moderation, it's not a good idea to associate over-indulgence of food with a "reward."
-
Well, I'm certainly not pro-jonnythan, but it does get rather old when someone consistently states they can't lose weight, and the only "evidence" they have is half-completed food diaries (not that those are even any real proof). Maybe there are lurkers that can benefit from the advice of the "naysayers," since it often…

I would tell someone to strap weights onto their ankles if they started floating when they left their house. Doubt it will happen though.
-
I haven't seen this, but here's a rule of thumb: Always suspect the authenticity of anything where there is a monetary reward associated with your credulity. (This guy less juicers or something, correct?)

I went to McD's a few weeks ago and had a Big Mac. It wasn't as good as I had remembered (never been much of a "fast food" fan anyway, though). I much prefer a Flat Out wrap stuffed with 2-3oz. of meat (pork, turkey, chicken, whatever), spinach, tomatoes, and peppers. It not only tastes much better, but it's literally half…

Is that correct? I don't have firsthand experience with this, but that seems like an incredible amount to lose so quickly (not that I'm trying to imply there is anything wrong with that, necessarily). Congratulations on such an achievement!

Before reading the rest of these, I know there will be the inevitable "dump him so he can find a woman to appreciate him in all his glory." It's not PC, but it's not like you're saying he's not attractive to you because of something beyond his control to address. The whole "someone should be beautiful to you regardless of…

Where's Joan Rivers when you need her?

I think sometimes we view others through the prism of our own experiences.
-
This seems a rather cavalier attitude towards the marriage of someone you don't even know.
-
Even a poor troll knows not to admit it.

There are a lot of people out there that "justify" (not that they need to, but it doesn't stop them from doing it) their weight to others by saying "My husband likes me this way." If you're one of those people, ask him what weight he wants you at, and try to attain it. If, on the other hand, you're losing your weight for…

Yeah, I must live in a "small world" also. Although his statement was a bit ridiculous, the attempts to discredit him aren't any better. Just because it's easier for a man to gain LBM, it's still not something that happens accidentally. Why would a man complain about not wanting to get muscular (here's a tip: just don't…

Quite true. Saying one's "addicted to food" is certainly no more ridiculous than being a "sex addict."
-
Well, it isn't "whoopdedoo" to some people. If someone "lacks willpower" and allows themselves to become overweight, it may be viewed differently than if they had an "addiction" (and therefore, no control over the consequences). Not to me, but society at large.
-
And it's also "appeal to authority."
-
So you're saying "food addicts" just don't want to stop eating? I'll buy that.
-
Sure, you have a "hole" inside you which causes you to do drugs, religion, sex (just realized I was an addict btw). I'm not talking about why you started. If I do drugs because of some "hole," I'm not immediately an addict. I won't argue that this "hole" you refer to is why many individuals eat to excess. That doesn't make…
-
Comparing drug addictions (withdrawal from which, can kill you in the more severe cases) to food and sex? Who even needs to rebut that?
-
If there's anything "broken" about you, it's the fact that you don't feel you're the only one accountable for your weight.
-
Okay, show of hands...how many of you guys have actually willingly eaten food out of a trash receptacle (non-hygienic, of course, or it doesn't count). This may actually change my viewpoint on the whole "food addiction" thing...
-
The term "addiction" has been watered down by society to be pretty much something that you want to do really, really badly. Of course, there are real addictions out there. You know, the ones that will actually cause severe physiological reactions, including death. But let's not talk about those, and lump in all the other…

Yeah, that's why it's a good idea for some to keep on logging those calories. I started to use this site towards the end of my weight loss "journey." Over the last few years, I'd gained about 40 lbs., and one day I decided to lose it. Initially, I only started limiting portion sizes (along with regular exercise). Tending…
-
I won't argue with this one, because I hope you're correct (although the point may be moot for me). Nice to hear a voice of reason on this topic now and then. Very true, but this works both ways. I've seen many posts of the type "Sure, drink that 2 liter of soda each day. I did, and lost <insert some huge weight loss>, and…

There's never a good time to tolerate ignorant assumptions.
-
You were implying I didn't know what a strawman argument was. You can clearly infer from the previous posters exactly the statement I made. Ergo, there was no strawman argument on my part. I know it's all the rage for posters here to act like they have the keys to the kingdom, and all the rest of us are poor wandering…
-
Read back through the thread, and then tell me about your "strawman."

Is that substantively different than saying "If your kids don't grow up watching mommy eat Little Debbies, they'll get an ED?"
