When I was quitting smoking, it seemed like stressful events would continuously appear, "requiring" me to take solace in the comfort of nicotine (and, no doubt, quelling an addiction feels great). Now, that I no longer smoke, I realize that "stressful" events are still happening (and were happening to others while I kicked…

I eat sandwiches regularly, and the typical composition is as follows: 2 slices Dave's Killer Bread (21 Whole Grains and Seeds) - Plenty of fiber, plus tastes great 80-90g Oscar Meyer Rotisserie Chicken slice of cheddar cheese (~19g) I eat it dry, and it's approximately 400 cals (w/30g protein and 10g fiber).

I typically weigh myself twice a week (at the gym, early morning, before commencing my workout). I don't obsess over the actual number, but I do use it as an indicator to decide when to start bulking/cutting (since determining my bf % isn't a convenient matter). Of course, if I don't feel that I visually correspond to what…

I love how one can always count on this response whenever someone asks whether it's okay to slather their food in butter. I don't know where you live, but the SAD has no problem meeting the body's fat needs (oh, and then some, believe me), all without adding additional sources. There are more individuals suffering from…

Dr. says X, which is proven incorrect. Ergo, when Dr. says Y, Y must also be incorrect (which, of course, would imply that nothing the doc says has any merit). Disregarding the actual opinions represented (which, interestingly enough, happen to coincide with your own), the logic here is faulty. Additionally, if you have…

Statistically speaking, I think most that start on a plan to lose weight eventually "fall off the wagon," so I'm not so sure about the "minority" part (unless you're speaking about the MFP forum population, in which case you may have a point). Of course, that doesn't mean we shouldn't make ourselves the exception.

I workout first thing in the morning. By around 6 am, I'm leaving the gym (showered and all), and this is when the non-negotiable aspects of my life start. On that subject, however... As someone mentioned upthread, you can "talk yourself out of" exercising regardless of when you schedule it. People always seem to make time…

Are you trying to imply that "old people" are more fit than those younger, due to lifestyle decisions? Personally, I see many "old fat people," and, often, losing weight due to advanced age has little to do with choice.

Everyone wins. Welcome to the new mediocracy.

I don't get all the Subway hate. I haven't been there in awhile, but, for weeks, a Subway sandwich was a regular evening meal (12-inch oven roasted chicken on wheat w/mustard). I easily lost weight, and was quite satiated. OTOH, while bulking, I would have the chicken bacon ranch, along with a few cookies and a refreshing…

I don't know how "weird" it would be to question that someone's dramatic weight loss isn't a result of serious illness (especially given that it's probably more statistically significant than an obese individual actually losing weight). I would be much more concerned with offending someone dealing with a grave health issue…

The option to "Woo" posts is pointless (I guess they don't have the courage to add an "unlike" -- that would be too mean). I'm not even sure what it's supposed to mean. Am I cheering you on when I give you a "Woo" (i.e. "woohoo!"), or am I claiming that you are presenting unsubstantiated information (a.k.a "woo")? The…

When I hit my highest weight (i.e. 50lbs. to lose), I decided that I wanted to get in shape, and started hitting the gym (along with a sensible calorie deficit, of course). In addition to weight training, I was doing cardio every day, which allowed me to go to a buffet each weekend. I would eat as much as I wanted there,…

When I drink milk (which isn't a frequent occurrence), it's bovine, and it's skim (I get plenty enough fat in my diet already). Cashew/almond water (referring to it as "milk" is merely a marketing ploy) repulses me -- plus, it has virtually no protein (except for trace amounts that made it into that abhorrent concoction).…

Don't you have to be 18 to use this site? I don't understand why an occasional expletive is such an issue, anyway.

Well, 1) those people obviously aren't your friends (so no loss there), and 2) they'd have nothing to say, if you hadn't made such an incredible transformation (thereby threatening them (forgive me for assuming the individuals in question are unfit)). IMO, how you respond to them doesn't really matter. Cut them loose, and…

Most can't even figure out how to log their food correctly; taking into account exercise calories just adds another layer of potential confusion. I use MFP to track intake, not as a source of dietary philosophy. I didn't "eat back" my exercise calories, and I lost my weight just fine (even more quickly, in fact).

That's most definitely not a "US/UK quirk." I'm an American, and I don't indiscriminately refer to pasta as "noodles." Perhaps it's a socioeconomic "quirk."

You have a lot of work ahead of you, if you're going to be concerned about errant threads on this forum.

Yeah, that goes for pretty much anyone losing weight.

Heaven forbid that someone could decide to lose weight for aesthetic reasons. There is nothing to suggest the OP has disordered eating habits (except the reported faux concern of individuals whose vantage is probably from the overfed-undermoved crowd). Additionally, the OP's BMI is comfortably in the healthy range. It…

It's almost criminal around here to not force yourself to shovel calorically-dense foods into your mouth. Going the "moderation" route is fine (not for me, however), but to imply there's something wrong with abstaining is ridiculous. It didn't take long after this thread was started before the MFP Police proceeded to suck…

If you weigh 300 pounds, I wouldn't worry too much about eating enough to "fuel" your weight loss. That's what your fat is for.
-
I know exactly how you feel. The weekends for me are a time for reckless abandon. I get to have a brief reprieve from playing by the rules for the week. Excessive food consumption isn't my focus per se, but I certainly don't worry about what I eat or drink (and alcohol is definitely on the menu). I'm on a bulk now, so that…

I like how if you're overweight on these forums (even considerably so), and you mention that you're ignoring the BMI table, you get cheers and comments of "rock on," but if you're marginally considered underweight by said table (17.9 vs. 18.5), you get called out on your profile for your eating history (which is a…

I don't know which is a more disappointing reflection on current society: The fact that someone could be so passionately against something so beneficial to their health (complete with liberal use of caps), or that others on this forum apparently agree with you.

You seem rather cavalier about "cheating." In fact, you seem almost proud of using improper form when you exercise, even while acknowledging the potential for injury. Misery may love company, but I'll invite the company, not the misery.

Ok, well I wasn't aware that such a distinction was being made. However, if you're defining "slow, sustained weight loss" as losing .5lb (or less)/week, when you have 50lbs (or more) until goal (which is another nugget of wisdom that I gleaned from these forums), then yes, I will concede that what I do is nothing like…

This gets repeated a lot (i.e. you shouldn't be hungry while you're running a deficit), but it certainly doesn't fit with my experience. I'm constantly ravenous when cutting (especially now that I'm nearing goal). You just deal with it.
