If you don't fall in line, and parrot the official MFP mantra, you will be shouted down by the hordes, and any possible benefit of your advice will be lost amid the chaos. And as far as "blanket statements" go, some (such as myself) don't do well by moderating food intake; sorry, I can't eat just three Oreos for "dessert."…

I was discussing whoever feels obliged to complain about the standards that "society" sets (perhaps that wasn't you, but sure seemed like it). No one wants to hear about the mediocre. Impossible ideals are set for everyone to deal with. Get over it.
-
The real problem is self-pity. Stop giving others the power to evaluate your worth.
-
Invoking race relations, in order to make a point on the forums...is that a Godwin's corollary?
-
It certainly is judgmental, but in a way that tends to comfort those that are intimidated by (their perception of) standard gym practices/mentality. I'm actually surprised that more of these "don't drop the weights" posters aren't members of said establishment (since such a viewpoint seems rather...sensitive).
-
According to you, you already know what to do; your issue is adherence. Therefore, it doesn't matter what the dietician recommends, since you're not going to follow his advice anyway (I love these "bash the so-called-professionals" posts). And I wouldn't worry about losing muscle mass, if you're not losing any weight.

Anything worth having is worth sacrificing for. Typically, I like to eat breakfast out, with multiple cups of coffee, and top the whole thing off with dessert. When I'm on a cut, however, I eschew this practice. No, I don't want to starve myself the rest of the week, and "bank" those calories. No, I don't want to have some…

Yes, no embedded link means you're not spam. Thanks for the tip, Mr. 6502programmer

Are you trying to imply that there's a health risk associated with not getting enough saturated fats in your diet (which would require you to seek out full/higher fat alternatives)? I get more than enough saturated fats, quite incidentally, in my diet already. Perhaps you should elaborate on what "we know better now," when…

I don't have a dog in this race (never tried IF, although certain aspects of it appeal to me). However, your example amused me somewhat. Often on these forums, I witness the following: OP: "I'm looking for suggestions on lower calorie foods." Forum: "What? Just fit it in. I eat [pizza/ice cream/candy] every day!" Another…

And you disagree that "abs are made in the kitchen?" You realize that it's a metaphor?
-
I don't know why everyone posts the same responses continuously, either. I also don't understand why so many ask total strangers "why am I not losing weight?" What do you expect the responses to be? Medical advice? Perhaps you just want commiseration?
-
Either the OP's intent should be respected, and those should stop telling him how to eat, OR the forum gets to use the OP's situation as their pet project to educate the "lurkers" (which would imply that it was not a "gigantic waste of everyones [sic] time"). You can't have it both ways.
-
Yeah, quite often the responses here are meant to illuminate the hordes that are scrambling aimlessly in ignorance, and aren't really attempting to address the OP. Don't take it personally.
-
Yes, I'm often amused at how easy the "regulars" here make weight loss out to be. "Eat what you want, exercise optional, and watch the pounds melt away!" And it was easy for them. Sure, there are individuals that, for whatever reason, let their weight creep up on them. Once they made up their mind to lose, however, they…

Informative, honest, and well written (with an engaging and humorous style)...I had to check my URL. Thanks for balancing the many comments that, although well intentioned, don't address the actual issues that many may face. And also, thanks for demonstrating, by your example, that we're all a product of the path we've…

If you're going to restaurants that serve "lousy" food "half the time," you have more to be concerned about than weight loss.
-
I feel that the 21 Day Fix meal program is useful, due to its accessibility. It simplifies portion control for many individuals who otherwise would never attempt it, and, if followed correctly, quite likely would yield positive results. Calorie tracking, however, is the Gold Standard; you can't get any more accurate than…

Everyone will have their preferences: Cheat, Don't Cheat (or, for that matter, don't even call it "cheating"). When I lost my weight a few years back (currently at 10 lbs. above maintenance), what worked for me was running a large deficit throughout the week, and going to a buffet on the weekend, where I would still eat…
-
Had to repeat this, since I was beginning to think I was living in Bizarro-world, and the only one who shared this viewpoint.

I think the point was that "stones" just aren't granular enough to be effective when dealing with typical human weights. And if you're going to use "pounds" as a remainder (e.g. 3 stone 7 pounds), that's even more silly. Just dispense with stones entirely, in that case. Economy of language. I'm a big fan of the metric…
-
That goes for women, also. You just use a different measuring stick.
-
You're "faceless," also. Yes, and so am I. I'm not too concerned about losing any credibility on these boards, merely due to the fact that I decide not to show my abs.
-
I have to add my vote for those "Chun King" chow mein dinners (served with those vile noodles, of course). Oh, and those frozen "Chinese" egg rolls. <shudder> Sardines, straight out of the can. Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls - always anticipated these as my school lunch snack. Frozen "seafood" dinners...so very, very sad.…

When you look at random strangers and wonder if they're cutting, bulking, or maintaining (as opposed to being simply overweight due to indifference, which I previously assumed).

Because MFP's implementation of community moderation is about as broken as you could get. There is no way to "unflag" a post, due to contrary opinion. Any posse can stomp an offender into submission (although I must always uncover these hidden gems). Do mods ever revert unwarranted flags? And, of course, there is no…

Sex doesn't make you fat. And I enjoy sex much more than food (although these forums suggest I may be unique in that regard).
-
Just because you don't "love" a food doesn't mean it "tastes like ****" (to use your eloquent example). There are some who casually eat calorically dense foods, but can do without them quite easily, in order to obtain a greater deficit. I was just trying to clarify if the poster felt that those individuals were making an…

Based on your response, would you consider the removal of "fast food," ice cream, and candy (for instance) from one's diet a valid method of weight loss, for an individual who does not "love" said foods?

Well played.
