  • Are you kidding me??? That is a HUGE NSV. Well done! Keep up the good work.
  • I'd say you're going through a stressful period in your life (hopefully FUN, but stressful nonetheless) so don't be too hard on yourself. :flowerforyou: Try to make sure that you are setting realistic goals for yourself. Try to set some time aside every day for some kind of exercise - even if it's just a walk. Try to…
  • I was going to say I always do it AFTER but ,when I think about it, I usually eat a little more breakfast and lunch if I know I'm going to work out in the afternoon/evening. I eat my exercise calories back because, that way, I can eat more, lose weight and I really don't feel like I'm on a "diet". This is (hopefully) a…
  • You beat me to it! (I was going to suggest amputating an arm/leg.)
  • I'd take a 30 minute walk on your "off-days" to keep your muscles from seizing up. Nothing too strenuous, just a nice relaxed pace.
  • Raw almonds. Bean dip and celery. Apples (sliced and sprinkled with ground cinnamon).
  • I'm sorry, but I think it's the shoes... maybe you just started running enough that the impact is now starting to hurt your knees. I'd certainly think about getting some proper running shoes. I'm 6'2" and was about 260 when I started trying to jog - felt a lot of pain in my knees. Went and got fitted for a pair of proper…
  • How about a 20 minute walk every day for a year? I bet you could do that, too. (It's more likely to work.)
  • Sounds like you know what you need to do and you have set your goals! Well done! Now, just take it one day at a time. You don't have to be perfect every day. You just have to have more good days than bad ones. As for exercise. If you build it up gradually, you will notice that it gets easier - but it will take time…
  • If you cook 100g of rice, as the other posters said, it will weigh more - but you still have 346 calories-worth of rice. Take what you cooked and estimate (or measure) how much of it you actually eat. For example, if you cook the 100g of rice and eat it all - you've consumed 346 calories. If you split it evenly between 3…
  • iMapMyFITNESS Works well with the GPS on my Motorola Droid X. (Some other apps didn't). Very pleased with this app. Elevation data display (at end of workout) is pretty cool! :glasses:
  • I agree! Well done!
  • I agree! And if it's the woman that you love - it don't get no better than that!!
  • Think of it as a type of workout  It's helping your body flush away toxins and keeping your kidneys (and bladder) healthy.
  • On work days I try to log food as I pack it in my lunch-box, it just makes it easier for me. I try not to eat extra stuff (no trips to the snack machine). I log cardio exercise as soon as I can after I finish it (using my Android phone) that way I can keep track of my daily allowance. (I eat back my exercise calories.) I…
  • Realized I was WAY behind my personal best on my walk today - so I jogged the last up-hill part.
  • Here's a link to an article published in The Lancet (well respected Medical Journal) . It describes a study undertaken by members of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the Mayo Clinic. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16920472?dopt=AbstractPlus Of the people studied, those in the "Overweight" BMI category (BMI…
  • I'm no expert (definitely a newbie runner) - but I'd advise you to be careful! I over-did it with some running/jogging recently and have had some pretty serious abdominal/groin pains. Went to see my doctor. He checked for more serious problems (like a hernia) and then decided that I "just" pulled/strained a muscle. Not…
  • Yeah, I definitely need to chew my food better. I'm also going to try setting the food/fork down between bites.
  • Don't want to trivialize or hijack your thread, but I've also read this theory in connection with brewing. (In other words, we were nomadic until we discovered how useful grains were for food AND for fermentation to produce beer. Then we settled down with some bread and a nice pint of ale. )
  • Thanks for the reminder - must get this one on my workout playlist!!
  • Don't think it's due to your metabolism. I think it's just that our digestive system is designed to work better when we're vertical.
  • Unless you suffer from indigestion, acid reflux or similar issues you should be fine eating right up until bedtime.
  • Yep! I have vivid memories of freaking out as a four or five-year-old kid after eating pickled beets for the first time. (Not as gross as the color that some grape sodas turn poop!)
  • Great display of willpower!! :flowerforyou:
  • That IS hilarious! My rule for shorts is simple: I wear 'em from March through October - basically, any time the temperature is in the 40's F or higher.
  • Don't want to sound too much like an armchair shrink, but maybe your loss of motivation is due to worries about the bike ride. Try to address those worries. Make a plan. Make sure you have everything you need in terms of supplies etc. , that you know the route - maybe ride part of it, or drive it in your car so you're…
  • Canned Tuna. (Need to drain it real well first.)
  • Raw almonds. They're fairly high in calories, but to be honest I don't believe that they should be. As far as I know, they calculate calorie content by "burning" a sample of the food completely. However I know for a fact (I'll leave it to your imagination to figure out how ) that a lot of the nuts pass through my…

  • I almost got killed one year for buying my wife a blender for her birthday. What saved me was the next box she opened that contained big margarita glasses and ingredients for various cocktails! Had me worried for a minute or two.... thought she was going to storm out before opening the second part of the gift.
