  • Congratulations Awinner_au. Way to go. My longest is still 102 miles. I got a 44 mile ride in this morning. 4 consecutive weeks ridding 5 days or more per week. But rain predicted for several days this coming week. Ive finished many rides in the rain, but I wont start one unless I am absolutely sure it is just a passing…
  • Sorry I havent posted much here. Been very busy at work and with life in general. Little time to visit MFP, but plenty of time to get my morning rides in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Managing five rides per week and 2 gym sessions on my "off" days. My Garmin connect calendar is full of pink boxes for the month. Totals for Sept 3 to…
  • My week has been going fantastical. After 124 miles last week, I started Monday with a gym session followed by a bike trifecta. 2018.09.10 - Monday: 45 minutes +/- on the gym floor working shoulders. Trying to use dumbbells over machines, + 35 minutes on the Precor AMT elliptical. Sustaining top level (20) for the last 13…
  • Nice going sijomial. I appreciate people like you who can climb. I can go 60 miles easy, but when I was riding with a group years ago, all the 35 year old would always leave me behind on the climbs. It was all good, I would always catch up and leave them in my dust in the flats. Bad knees from my running days... I need to…
  • 2018.09.08 Saturday: At the gym. 45 +/- minutes of triceps exercises and 35 minutes on the elliptical. Top resistance level on the Precor AMT is 20. Got there after 20 minutes and sustained level 20 for the last 15 minutes. Felt really good afterward. 2018.09.09 Sunday: On the bike. Only two weeks into my program, right…
  • 2018.09.07 Friday. My lucky day. 20.7 miles. 1:12:28. 17.1 MPH average. 1467 calories per Garmin (Yeah, sure~ I don't trust it). Getting my legs back. Still off my previous cruising speed, but much better than when I got back on the bike 2 weeks ago. My Garmin edge 520 yet again failed to work. Today it is just showed zig…
  • Oooops. Make that level 20. Got to make the workout count.
  • My Garmin Edge is quirky. I will charge it and then when I disconnect it will turn itself on. Most of the time I notice it and turn it off, but apparently not last night. I guess it was on all night. Got on the bike at 6:45 AM. 5 minutes later the Garmin shuts down. Battery dead. Ride was my stock 22.5 miles, so I marked…
  • I bike 4 days a week, sometimes 5 (when training for an event). I go to the gym the other 2 or 3 days. I do 45 minutes +/- of weights, and 30 minutes on the elliptical. While on the elliptical, I gradually increase the resistance and try to go all the way to the top level for the last 5 or 6 minutes. Most people…
  • Im new here. Can I just jump in and introduce myself? I am a recreational bike rider in San Diego, California. I try to do at least 100 miles per week, more in the spring- summer but I kind of fell off the wagon 2 months ago. I was getting up to 120 to 140 miles most weeks in March to June, but I had 5 back to back trips…
  • A lot of trainers and coaches want you to do HIIT sessions (High Intensity Interval Training) for weight loss. Go to Youtube or Google HIIT in case you have never done it before. The elliptical is very low in my priority list. I bike 120 +/- miles most weeks over 4 or 5 days and go to the gym on my "off bike" days to do…
  • Re drink: If you live in Florida, I would take hydration very seriously. Re calories: I ride a bike. Many of my long rides (when training for an event) are 3 and sometimes 4 hours long. We are all different, but anything less than 2 to 2.5 hours, I do on an empty stomach. Cup of black coffee and maybe a banana (or 2)…
  • Why do you need a "program" to be fit and healthy? Just get up every day and go fight gravity in any way you can.
  • I've never been able to coast on a climb. How do you do it?
  • My calendar is my best friend. I look for something important 2 or 3 months ahead. It could be a trip, a wedding or formal event, an organized sports event in participation in, whatever and then just "train" the heck towards that date. I set myself fitness goals (not necessarily numbers on the scale) and develop enough…

  • I tend to do 40 to 45 minutes of weights followed by 40 to 45 minutes on the elliptical (Precor AMT) with a 30 second-90 second and repeat HIIT session. I really go very hard the last 10 to 15 minutes increasing the resistance way up high so that by the time I finish, I am so hot and sweaty, that all I can do is go into…
  • There is no reason why anyone should not exercise 7 days a week. My routine: 2 days a week 20 mile time trials on my bicycle. 1 day a week mid range bike ride 40 to 60 miles. 2 to 3 days a week, days in between bike rides, gym: 45 minutes +/- of weights followed by 40 to 45 minutes elliptical, primarily HIIT (30/90) Easy…

  • Just how many miles are you "running" now? We are all different, but for me my threshold is about 5 miles. I know that if I run 5 miles or more 4x per week I the scale will go down. Anything less I wont, whether I weight my meals or not. Are you working hard enough?
  • A watch is a watch. I got the Samsung Gear S a couple of week ago to go with my Note 3. I love it as a "smart" watch, but it is lousy as an activity tracker. This is supposed to be the greatest of the latest, but it is very quirky. The HR functions only works if I stop and push the unit hard into my wrist for a minute. Not…
  • I will be at the same weight for 3 or 4 weeks and then boom, boom, boom. Down 3 lbs in one week. I just know that if I consistently stay with my program- exercise everyday and eat clean- eventually the number on the scale will match up with my improved level of fitness. And if it doesn't one week, I just know that I am…
  • No "planned" cheat days for me. They just happen. A business lunch, a meal out with family or friends. No need to be paranoid and order celery and tomatoes when you are out. Just watch yourself and order sensibly without going overboard.

  • If you want to stop eating junk, the STOP eating junk. Simple.
  • I exercise almost daily. My wife on the other hand, exercises "seasonally" and had your same attitude. I got her taking Zumba classes at the gym the past couple of weekends. She is just a newbie, but so far she loves it so far.
  • I will be the same for 3 days straight, then I will go up 2 lbs from one day to the other (just water, I'm sure) and then down 3 lbs the following day so I do it daily and record the variations. I don't get emotional about it and just stay focused on my fitness program instead. I know that if I stick with it, week in and…
  • Kaley, this is the first time I come here in months and your post just jumped at me. We are very different. Im a male 62 years old in the West Coast, but we share a lot. Saturday I drank four bottles of wine. This was not a one day thing. It was the culmination of a 5 week bender that started on a Mexican vacation. There I…
  • I turn the computer off and go for a walk.
