His number is taking into account "afterburn" - calories burned for a period of time after an intense (especially HIIT) workout. It prob also takes into account increased metabolism.

I've also heard that the majority of the results come from month two...and it's definitely true for me!! Up to this point (beginning week 3 of month 2), I've lost a total of 10 inches but only lost about 5 pounds (according to the scale). The measurements and before and after pics definitely mean more than what the scale…
