  • And remember to make all you calories "count", healthy foods, lean proteins, fruits and veggies, whole grains, nuts and nut butters. If your baby was in front of you, would you feed it to him/her? No? Then don't eat it, because you will be feeding it to him/her, lol. You're actually "building a baby", use the healthiest…
  • I'm not sure if this has been mentioned because I didn't read through the 6 pages, but the thing to look for, for good coffee, is "100% arabica beans" on the label. Most expensive brands say this, but some cheap unheard of brands say this too, at least at Ocean State Job lot, where I buy my coffee. There are three brands…
  • When I eat at the absolute minimum that MFP allows (1,000 cal. a day) it sets my weight loss rate at 1/2 lb. a week. At 1200 cal. it says I'll lose 1/3 lb. a week. I'm old and small and in a healthy weight range already so it's VERY slow for me, and at that rate, I will easily see some weeks with a gain just because of…
  • I used four different pictures and got from 39 to 51, which is pretty good since I'm 63. I submitted this profile pic and it said 49 for me and 71 for my hubby! He's a year older than me, we met in high school. I decided not to tell him, lol. By the way, the picture that guessed 39 was taken from above. If you hold the…
  • Doing phase one has reminded me of how much I love the ricotta cheese breakfasts and desserts! LOVE fat free ricotta with a splash of almond milk (unsweetened) to make it creamier and then whatever flavor I'm in the mood for - doing a lot of almond extract, vanilla cream stevia to sweeten it and topped with slivered…
  • I think they are out there, somewhere, lol. Just to let you know it took me awhile to find this group. There's no "search" function for groups that I could find, and my "browsing" didn't find it. Finally, I searched SBD on the message board page, and some threads came up with people discussing it, and you, Sabine, posted a…
  • I try to log everything I actually eat (or drink if it has calories). But I've seen people who log things like teabags (someone mentioned that) or stevia drops or extracts in the 1/8 of a tsp. range or splenda packets etc., and if I tried to do that I would drive myself crazy, and see no need for it. I don't pop a few…
  • We might have. I think I went by "Wildflower" there, but it was SO busy that they started a new "group" every single Monday with many many people who were starting that day, and got seemingly thousands of posts a day with all the many groups and other topic questions. I think it was 2004, LONG time ago. I did contribute…
  • If I follow something like South Beach, my cravings for white carbs/sugar completely disappear, and then I can eat intuitively. But if I'm not following that, then I have to count calories or points to keep my emotional eating in check - I will continually crave carbs to excess. White carbs make me hungrier and make me…
  • Yes, Weight Watchers has a maintenance plan that is free as long as the WW member checks in every month (with a free weigh in) and stays within 2 lbs. of their goal. Many Lifetime members still track their food, whether it is on paper or with the WW e-tools (a WW tracking app) which is also free for Lifetime members. I…
  • I think it's impossible, everyone body is more than just a little different. Height has a lot to do with the differences, body shape, and muscle mass of course. I am 5'1" and presently 126 lbs., and a size 6 petite pants (4 misses, but I'd have to take them up). I am aiming for 118, which means I'd be a 4 petite pants (and…
  • There are a few types of intermittent fasting. For quite awhile (over a year) I tried limiting my eating to between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. It turned out to be an excellent maintenance strategy, and I was at a healthy weight (even though I wanted to lose); it stopped dead a slow gain I had been experiencing, and I could eat…
  • There's something some weight watchers use that they call "reverse tracking". Basically, you are tracking 24 hours, does it HAVE to be from wake up time to bedtime? How about you record LAST night's dinner and following snacking into your tracker, then use today's breakfast and lunch to add up to your calorie goal. What…
  • Maybe my gym is unusual, but I see all types and sorts of people there, from very old to very young, very fit to way out of shape. It could be because I work part time and go when most people are at work, so lots of retired folks are there when I go. When I see someone out of shape (sometimes heavy sometimes not, you can…
  • Size 12 in her day was about a 6 today. I even read that a 0 today is an 8 from the 60's, and I believe it, I remember being 99 lbs. at 5'1" in the early 70's and a size 5 pair of jeans in juniors was too small. That size 5 was probably smaller than 00 is today, but it was the smallest junior size there was, there were no…
  • We all have a "baseline" of activity that would not get us any extra calories and would not need to be "documented". I have my activity level set at sedentary, and until I get past about 5,000 steps I won't get any extra calories from Fitbit, it just thinks that amount of steps is what it takes for normal daily living and…
  • South Beach Diet is NOT at all in any way low carb! Even doctors seem to misunderstand that. Only phase one is low carb, and that's only supposed to be for 2 weeks. The main losing phase, phase 2, includes whole grain breads and pastas and cereals and fruit, all high carb foods. Is your doctor suggesting you stay on phase…
  • When I was a kid (and I might be dating myself here), I never once said to my mother "I'm going outside to exercise". I said "I'm going out to play!" And then I did. I ran, I jumped rope, I played hopscotch, we played kickball and croquet, we played "chase", usually the boys chasing the girls, and in the summer we walked…
  • If you put that you are "active", then MFP gives you calories based on that. THEN, when FitBit gives you more calories, it is based on the exercise that MFP has already taken into account and given you calories for, so you're getting double calories for the same exercise. Don't eat back calories given to you by FitBit.

  • You are not the typical person here but you can certainly change your "body composition" and stay the same or gain weight! Have you tracked your meals on MFP? One of the best things about it is that it will show you how many grams of carbs, fat and protein you are eating. Just looking at what you eat, I can tell you are…
  • Wow, awesome weight loss Sympha. I actually did think of that - that the inflated calorie burn numbers might motivate someone to keep moving. Whatever works, as you say. It's damn hard to try to think of "how I'm going to fit in exercise today", day after day after day. Any motivation is welcome. I only worry about people…
  • Thanks for all the info! Very helpful.
  • Ha, my hubby is 63, married for a long time (to ME) and also loves biking! However, he hates message boards and even Facebook (I made him his own FB page but he ignores it and looks at mine instead for family pictures, etc.) We have 3 grown boys and four grandkids! I needed to lose that pesky 10, have lost four (takes me…
  • Sometimes your body "settles" for awhile, but if you keep doing what you're doing it will move on. Make sure that your smaller body isn't on a "maintenance" level of calories - sometimes we forget that when we're smaller we need less just to stay the same. You are now at a healthy weight for your body but you can certainly…
  • What works in our 20's never works in our later 30's and works even less in our 40's and 50's, lol. You could be feeling like crap because you're not getting the proper nutrition from your calories. I know they say it doesn't matter what you eat as long as there is a deficit for losing weight, but it does matter for how…
  • All the "binge foods" you mentioned are carbs - cereals, breads etc. You just have to accept that you can't have them in the morning. Have an omelet with low fat cheese and fruit for your carb. Or have Greek yogurt with fruit, I've heard of no one bingeing on Greek yogurt. Maybe you can handle some carbs later in the day -…
  • Where's the protein??? I know you said you don't eat meat but there are plenty of other sources. Eggs, beans, fish, tofu, even Greek yogurt. They say it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you are creating a calorie deficit, but protein helps you keep your muscle tone, and satisfies you so you don't get hungry as…
  • I love mine. It has definitely encouraged me to move more. Also it hooks up with MFP and they constantly "talk" to each other - FitBit gets my food info from MFP and MFP gets my activity information from FitBit, so I get more calories based on what FitBit is telling MFP. I tend to think FitBit overestimates those calories…
  • I loved that one!
