You'll feel pain in the upper right part of your abdomen, below your chest. There are several medical issues that can cause bloating after eating and excessive burping. I immediately thought of acid reflux and gallbladder disease because they can cause those symptoms after eating almost anything. There's also irritable…

I don't disagree with that. I'm just letting OP know that cutting out certain foods isn't the same as cutting calories. And if you really enjoy those foods, abstaining completely can be more challenging for a lot of people than incorporating.

A burger and fries isn't going to make you gain weight. You didn't ruin anything. We have cravings and for some people, it's better to give in to those cravings than to binge later because you denied yourself that food. I used to stress out about "cheating" and such, which just caused me to give up out of frustration. You…

When I'm not motivated, I'll just eat maintenance. As long as I don't gain weight, I don't mind taking a break from dieting. I can pick back up where I left off without creating more work for myself.

In general, men lose weight faster than women. Bigger people lose weight faster than smaller people. Even two people with similar stats will lose weight at different rates because of differences in digestion, lean body mass, water retention, etc. You can't change how efficient or inefficient your body is at digesting food.…

I don't avoid any foods. If you can't develop a healthy relationship with all foods, then you're going to have trouble keeping the weight off. Cutting out "white carbs" isn't going to reduce your calorie consumption unless you don't get those calories from any other source.

You should talk to your doctor about it. Do you still have your gallbladder? Ever have attacks? Do you have acid reflux? Those things can make you feel bloated and cause burping. Before you start eliminating anything from your diet, you should just talk to your doctor and find out if there's a medical issue.

Biochem grad here. I second this. Genetics definitely affects appetite, digestion, psychological components, and other contributing factors. Just because genetics doesn't directly cause weight gain doesn't mean that it isn't a significant influence. Most people accept that skin tone, hair color, and many other things are…

My grandfather is overweight, has been his whole life. He has had diabetes since his 40s. He has sleep apnea due to his weight and could have died in his sleep before it was discovered. Having diabetes that long has destroyed his kidneys and now he's been on dialysis for several years which is very hard on him. As poor as…

I eat cabbage a few days a week. It's low in calories and sodium...and you can eat a lot of it if you really feel hungry and are scared of going over on your calories. There's only about 300 calories in an entire head of cabbage.

I did not suggest that he eat 1800 calories. I was just pointing out that I weighed more than he did, and was working with a registered dietitian who put me on an 1800 calorie diet. I told him to use a bmr calculator that takes body fat into account. When people are obese, most of those calculators can be off by a lot…

I've lost 45 lbs so far and although my old clothes don't fit anymore, nobody has noticed the weight loss (or at least not said anything.) I'm not doing it for others though, so I'm not bothered.

I had gallbladder surgery a month ago. I gained about 10 lbs in water weight and my body held onto it while healing. Then one day it just disappeared. It will take 2-3 weeks. Don't worry about it.

It doesn't really matter which day you choose. If you eat 1200 one day and 2200 the next, it's the same as eating 1700 both days. But for tracking purposes, if you're already at your limit for the day and it's early in the morning, just put it on the next day so that you will be mindful of it that day and will eat less.

I started at a higher weight than you, and even then my dietitian suggested I eat 1800-2000 calories. Make sure you use a bmr calculator that takes body fat into account. The other calculators assume that obese people have more lean body mass than they usually do which causes the bmr to appear higher.

Every few weeks I take a one week break from my diet and just eat at maintenance. I never gain weight during that week aside from extra water weight from the sodium and glycogen stores. When I go back on my diet, that water weight is gone in 2 days. Those weeks of zero weight loss are more beneficial to me than the couple…

I started taking Wellbutrin a few months ago. The weight is coming off easier than ever. My doctor did tell me that Wellbutrin will suppress some people's appetites. It seems to have that effect on me. It also makes me have more energy and want to go out and move around more. 35 of the 45 lbs I've lost have been while…

Thanks everyone. I'll talk to my doctor about it at my next appointment. And I am eating about 1800 calories/day. I'm not starving myself or anything. I just feel guilty every time I eat.

I find that it's easier and cheaper to just focus on calories while substituting a few things or buying some extra fruits. I once tried to switch to eating only healthy stuff and I was miserable. Planning on what to cook made me think about food even more and I hated it. As if I didn't already think about food enough as it…
