Today 46 minutes of sprints with some school kids! Hard work, but the sprints I did on my own certainly helped as they were harder than these so I was able to keep up, except the butterfly lengths where I was faster initially but by the last lengths, I couldn't complete a length of butterfly! I haven't swum butterfly or…

Sounds like you're really fast already! And those look to me like some pretty hard intervals you're pushing already! Wow! Emma B on here is one of the ones that just zings along winning medals and she may be better placed to give you some tips given your pedigree! My two cents: 1) Give it time - you've. Been away for…

I restarted swimming same time I started calorie counting (remember diet is 80% and exercise 20%)! Changes: Over 5-6 months I lost 33 pounds (15 kilos) Not only did the weight go, but due to swimming it went away in good places. Waistline, butt, thighs, gut all got smaller, and tighter/ more toned. Arms got toned and…

My goodness! Where've you been? Gone for months (or is it years?) then you come back with no fanfare! Welcome back

Lol! Enjoy the trip though! If you look hard enough, you will find something to really enjoy out there!

Back in the pool to start the week! 2.5km in 57 min. After the last swim last Thursday (which was sprints) my body felt sore throughout the rest of the weekend especially my legs! I guess I use my legs a lot more during the sprints than I do with the long swims! But the rest did help, as the swim felt quite relaxed today!…

Welcome back mpeters!!! Yep there are days like those! You just push through best you can and wait for a better swim next time, and focus on what you need to fix/ maintain especially when you're tired! :+1: Not to worry. It will take awhile as your body adjusts. Give it time. You'll look back and be amazed at how far…

Yesterday (Thursday): 330m warm up 10 x 66m on 1:40 10 x 33m on 0:50 10 x 33m on 0:50 132m warm down Just getting back into the swing of things on the sprint/ intervals side of things and this set was just a killer for me. Felt completely exhausted after the swim, like I've not felt in a long time. I guess I also use my…

Wow! How do you handle sprints with 3 in a lane???

2.5 km Wednesday! much slower than usual. I guess the body was making adjustments following the sprints on Tuesday! Today I anticipate a training session with coach and some kids, but will see if that materializes! If not, I'll just do my own sprints! Having the Garmin really helps keep track of times in interval type…

Good idea to rest and let the body recuperate! Glad Dad out of hospital

1 km of sprints! 33 x 30m on 0:45 deteriorating to "on 0:50"! Break after each 10 lengths!

Great swims everyone! Haven't checked in for awhile. Swam last Thursday. Also swam today - 2.5km 57 min today! Hopefully will be mixing it up with sprint sessions now to keep things interesting!

Lol! You may need to start having your stuff tailored! Lol!

Wow great swims everyone. Been swimming but haven't checked in this week. Swam Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Been feeling more tired than usual last 2 weeks and struggling abit with motivation, but my times have been pretty good! Tuesday, did 3 sprint sets with some kids and their coach after my swim - had planned on my…

It's also worth mentioning that technique can play a part in making one more susceptible to these injuries. In my case, i needed to modify the way my hand entered the water, which is how I'd learned to swim and how I'd swum all my life. So instead of my hand entering the water thumb first (as it always had) and many times…

Hi there. Did some searching. Below are a few quotes from awhile back on another thread which may be helpful! On the FINA video, the exercises begin at about the 2:50 mark!

Welcome to the group PulpFaction, and good job on getting back into it. As a former competitive swimmer you sound like you'll probably get back into the thick of things pretty quick! Great swims everyone. I tend to mainly do longer continuous swims, so not of much help on the drills. I did buy a pack of swimming drills and…

That is a fantastic pool! Wow! Do post the picture on this thread as well http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1413984/what-pool-river-lake-were-you-in-today-pictures#latest

A hard 2.5 km in about 57 min. No tumble turns at all this time. People were swimming widthwise and it was just difficult to get any sort of rythm going! I upped my water intake in a huge way last week aiming for 2-3 liters per day (0.5-0.8 gallons)! One immediate effect was my energy levels dropped (probably craving…

2.5km 56 min with tumble turns!

Best not to eat back your exercise calories, and if you must, then just a proportion - eg eat back only 30% of your exercise calories. Yes I enjoy swimming, but I also swim as the calorie burn enables me to enjoy some treats I wouldn't be able to if I was relying on eating alone to keep me on track! That said, even with my…

Great to see all the great swims, distances, consistency people. Panda I so dream of swimming 2.5km in 50 min. Gutzy, I see your back to 100%!!! Nuffer, no cramps means what you're doing is working. EmmaB so sad to hear about the finger - that timing just sucks! Alicia, gently, curly, Juliet and Noel - good stuff!

Swam on Mon, Tue, Thurs and Friday last week. 2.5km swims all in the 54-56 min range. Was happy that with Friday swim I was able to tumble turn through almost the entire swim, but my time was slower (about 57 min) which was ok, as it will take some getting used to aerobically. I was gasping through the whole 57 min - funny…

Longest continuous swim is 10km. Usual daily swim is 2.5 km in 51-58 min, depending. Why the long swims? I enjoy the big calorie burns. I enjoy the definition that the multiple reps give to my muscles and body generally. I love the breath control I attain. I love the way the stress bleeds out of the body as the swim…

Hey there Curly! Yeah it depends on which of the 2 or 3 pools I tend to use, I end up on on any given day of the week and time. Sometimes I'll come to a pool and they'll have kids and adults having swim lessons and swimming widthwise. Given my usual swim times (early morning and late evening), this isn't usually an issue…

A very hard 2.5km in 57 min This was one of the swims that was difficult right from the first length. I swim to a playlist set to a fixed tempo to maintain a specified stroke rate - today the music sounded like it was running at 1.5 to 2 times the normal speed. That's how tough it felt. Just glad I made it through - took…

Tuesday: 2.5km 57 min Today: 2.5 km 55ish min Nice to have a watch counting the laps, alongside my mental count. The only problem is when you have kids swimming widthwise and interrupting, forcing me to stop, it's counted as a new lap when I restart swimming, even though I stopped midway through a lap.

I had planned to do a 15km swim by end of 2015. Health issues postponed that attempt, so that is now one of my goals for 2016. The other is to do a 2.5km in 45 min (fastest I've ever done was 51 min, so it'll be tough but it doesn't hurt to try). If I manage that, then try a 5 km in 1:30-1:40. Doesn't hurt to dream …

Last week started easing myself back into it. Monday 2.5km 58 min Wednesday 2.5 km 56 min Hope to get back to the minimum 4 swims a week routine, hopefully starting today. Back has also been giving me grief and I think we need a new firm mattress! @juliet I too always have to watch out with dropping my left wrist after…
