We have a whole group of us: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/463-40-and-fabulous I just turned 40 a few months ago, and I'm in the best shape I've probably ever been. It can be done!

He's entitled to his opinion. I wouldn't have had any reaction at all if he'd just said "no, I don't find them attractive." Instead, he made a ridiculous assumption about activity levels and commonality. So I'm mostly pointing out that he's hiding his real answer behind something that he thought would sound inoffensive.

Aren't a good number of the users of this website overweight and 1)extremely conscious of their diet and 2)very active. I mean, there are kind of hordes of us on here who have lots of pounds to lose that you exchange advice and information with here every day! Doesn't that count as having something in common?

I ran one this morning (just as a training run) and finished in 32:40, and felt like a rockstar! It will be more fun for you if you compete against yourself than against the "winner."
-
Ran 4.25 miles, but "time-trialed" a 5K in an effort to get faster.

It was actually my first race at *any* distance! So much for easing in... :)

My story is more like RunnerElizabeth's. I started trying to run almost 10 years ago as a means of crosstraining for cycling and Olympic lifting. For me it never got easier, never was enjoyable, at most I was able to distract myself with obsessively tracking my distance and pace improvements using various techno gadgets. I…

I'm in South Florida, which is also ungodly hot. During the summer I live on salad, and stuff like guacamole and hummus!

I turned 40 in December, and honestly think I've probably never been in better shape. Been (back) on MFP for almost a year now, and have lost about the same amount of weight as you. 12 more pounds until I hit my goal! Although chances are once I get there I'll decide I need to lose just a bit more. Anyway, will send a…

Oooph!!!! What a set-up!

I eat somewhere between 1600-2200 calories per day, depending on my exercise schedule and my cravings at any given time. I'm 40, 5'4", and exercise 4-6 times per week. I've managed to lose almost 30 pounds, so guess it's working out ok. I eat candy or ice cream every day, have pizza or Chinese when I feel like it, and the…

Thanks for the recs!

I also have the goal of doing a pull up! We should start a "you can do a pull up"club!

I just hit 40. Please add!

Hi everybody, My MFP-related resolutions/goals are: 1)Run the Gasparilla 15K 2)Do my first triathlon sprint 3)Get to my weightloss goal (14 pounds to go) and then reassess. 4)Lose another 3 inches from my waist. I should probably try to cut back on candy or something, but it's just not going to happen!

This past Sunday.

No, because I don't eat the same thing (or same calorie amounts) every day.

Happy birthday to you! I turned 40 exactly one month ago today, and so far so good. I also didn't want to turn 40 at my fat girl size, and managed to drop 25 lbs in time for the big day. There's a lot about aging that is scary and maybe even sad, but there's also a lot that's exciting and satisfying. Think of all the…

I work out five times per week and only use shampoo once per week--at the recommendation of my stylist! I condition every time I shower, but I don't need to shampoo. I don't see why you'd need to either. Some people have oily hair that needs more frequent shampooing, but that doesn't seem to be your issue.

There is also nothing wrong with trying (and liking) other things. Nobody's forcing you to eat it.

I had PastaSlim spinach fettuccini the other day and it was really good! Read about it here: http://www.wildwoodfoods.com/products/pasta-alternatives/pasta-slim/long-noodles/spinach-fettuccini-0 There are several different varieties of vegetable-derived pasta that are extremely low in calories and carb. You can make one…

I have mixed feelings about GMO, so I can't come down pro or con on the issue. Here's an interesting recent article from The Economist about how maybe the opposition to GMO is a bit of a blind "first world problem" :…

My guess would be if you're walking half the time, your shoes are taking less of a beating and will last longer. Either way, your shoes won't magically expire at a certain mileage, that's just a rule of thumb for an average time after which the cushioning is exhausted and/or you might see splits in the uppers. I've had…

I live for HIIT. Its effectiveness and benefits really depend on your goals. I've found that it's a good way to improve my overall mile pace, and in combination with base runs and distance building runs, it's part of a running program I can stick with. I have no idea if it has had any real metabolic effect for me, but I've…

I don't disagree. I guess I had assumed the OP was doing that as well, since he was asking about speed vs incline intervals. I run 4 times per week: 2 speed interval sessions as described above, a 10K run, and a tri training brick (1/2 mile swim followed by a 5K, or a 12 mile bike ride followed by a 5K. On my 5th day I…
