At the advice of my NUT, I use Flinstones Complete chewable vitamins. I take them after morning breakfast because they have iron in them so I don't want to take them on an empty stomach.

Best wishes. Hoping all goes smoothly and without stress for you.

Congratulations!!! That is so awesome.

I understand totally what you are feeling. I'm 5 mos out and there are some days I think back to the initial post-surgery diet of just protein drinks with some longing. It was easy then, when that was all I could eat. Now I have to make the choices myself and sometimes I don't make the best choices. I also know first-hand…

The weeks just after surgery can be pretty blah in the food-area. As you get farther out, it will get better. It will just be a new food-reality, and that can be hard to accept. But, the improvement in your health will make it worth the changes to your food habits.

I agree. Planning ahead makes it so much easier to stick to the plan. I have tuna packets, veggies, cottage cheese all at work. I don't have to wonder what I'm going to eat for lunch. That makes sticking to my plan a lot easier. I rarely have snacks during the day, but I have some plain popcorn at work and if I feel like I…

Good topic. I wondered about carbs too. I actually called my NUT to ask about this. Their answer was as long as the carbs come from my dairy (low-fat greek yogurt, skim milk), veggies or limited amount of fruit, they don't care how many carbs I get per day. However, they want the other carbs/(grain-starches) to be very…

Prior to surgery, I lost 10 lbs. Not that much really, but I had several people (family, friends & my other half) ask why I didn't just do this on my own and skip the surgery. My response was that yes, I can lose weight in the SHORT term, but I have never been able to maintain the loss long-term. Plus, when I gained the…

I agree, I think it is both. For PMS, I am non-stop hungry and not just for sweets. I just feel like I can't eat enough to make me not hungry. But, pre-surgery I was most definitely addicted to pop. I "had" to have it first thing in the morning and then it continued on through the day.

The craving is a "head" hunger, not a body hunger. The "head" hunger will go away for a little bit after surgery, but it will come back. Think of this as practice for post-surgery. I find the best thing to do when I am having "head" hunger/cravings is to distract myself. Think of things you can do that will distract you…

Wishing you the best. I remember lying on the gurney and all prepped for surgery and still wondering if I should run out the door :) I didn't, and I couldn't be happier with the surgery. While it is only a tool, and we all still have to do the work, it really has given me the kickstart to make my life healthier. And, as a…

Don't let these comments mess with your head. I just minutes ago had someone tell me I'm "withering" away. Well, as compared to where I was before surgery, yes I look much smaller. But, as compared to the population of women I am not even average yet. I think Rob & Pat are correct in that people just are getting used to a…

I know how you feel. Part of my problem this weekend was not having the right food at home since I was just coming back from vacation. I clearly see now that planning and having the right food in the house will help me avoid eating the unhealthy food. You will lose your 1 lb quickly and be back on track. Don't worry.

This! At surgery, my BMI was not 40. But, looking at my BMI would not tell you about my elevated BP (even on meds) or blood sugar or that I had sleep apnea for 10 yrs. It's one thing to use BMI as just suggestion for a range of weight to shoot for, but I'm not going to consider myself a failure if I don't get to where the…

I took a can of beef hash and pureed it. While I don't think I would eat beef hash normally, I loved it at that point. I think it was nice to have something that tasted like real meat and wasn't sweet.

You are doing great. That has to feel so good to lose. Keep up the great work.

You are both on a path to have a healthier life. Her path may be longer than yours, but it doesn't change the fact that you both are in a position where you are looking to get help to accomplish that goal. Plus, she has no idea what other medical factors might be playing into your decision. I may have been the…

Thanks, everyone. As has been mentioned, it is harder to see changes day to day so it was fun when I came across the pre-surgery picture. Weeziebeth, it is handy to have my step-mom be retired from Chico's corporation. They have a company store on the corporate campus and each clothing item is only $6. I got a lot of…

Fabulous!!

Mine skipped the month of surgery, but then came back. Last month I had 2, but none so far this month. I'm hoping the fluctuation is menopause. I do notice that my weight loss really slows in the week or so leading up to my period.

Hi. Had my sleeve 11/19/14. To answer your questions: 1) try to adapt your diet pre-surgery to more like what it will be post-surgery. Cut back/eliminate sweets and pop. The pop/caffeine elimination was the hardest for me. 2) not sure what you mean by daily activities. You will be up walking the day after surgery. But if…

Rob is correct. Don't go at exercise like you have to do it all and commit to hours in the gym. Start with a manageable amount of time, like a 1/2 hr and a goal for 3 days per week. Gradually build up from there as you can. It won't be as intimidating then. You have done a great job so far, so I know you can do this too!
-
Good work! No worries about the immediate post op pic, because we all looked that way going home. You have really made your time count!

I do remember my last pop (Dr Pepper, and not the diet kind) because it truly was my last one and I knew I would never put pop back into my diet. Otherwise I didn't have a funeral because there wasn't anything else I thought I would never eat again. I took the view that if I forbid myself to eat even a bite of something, I…

There was nothing I needed in the hospital that they didn't provide. My hospital experience: my surgery was early in the morning. One thing that I did that I think was helpful is I told the anesthesiologist that I have had a bad time with nausea after surgery and asked for extra medication for that. They gave me some type…

Great success!! You deserve to feel happy and proud of what you have accomplished.

You are doing so great! You look fabulous-- and happy :) Good for you.

Wonderful! I bet a year ago you couldn't imagine what your life was going to be. You made it happen.
-
Oh my! That had to be uncomfortable. But funny. Glad you were able to get the girls back into their proper place without anyone noticing. :)

That is wonderful! Great accomplishment. I know you must be feeling great, and really proud. Good for you
