My preference is rotisserie chicken, crusty bread and salad. Same idea. Or make it a bit cheaper and roast your own chicken. If you want to make this easier still, buy the chicken already jointed, rub with oil and salt and roast in a tray. Doesn't take long, easy to tell when it's done (juices run clear when you poke it).…

We used to eat tapioca pudding and we called it frogspawn. I didn't like it much, mind you. I've discovered a love of tapioca balls in bubble tea, but I still think frogspawn pudding would not be my favourite. Portions are key, whatever you're eating; far more crucial than the type of food, imo.

It's quite possible for someone with experience to tell the difference between normal "eating back exercise" and exercise purging behavior. It's not the same, and a professional who's working with a person one-to-one is best placed to spot that problem. The fact the RD pulled up her client for exercise purging does not in…

That's just forum convention. It's really not personal. It makes it easier to follow the conversation, because in the middle of the conversation it can be easy to forget which of the people involved actually started it. Besides, I was taking in generalities, about any thread and any OP, not just your thread or you as OP.…
-
Something you have to keep in mind is that when we post replies here, we're not just talking to the OP, but to who knows how many beginners lurking on the thread. So when someone seems to be recommending or doing something that's actually dangerous, we have to call it out - not just for the sake of the OP, but also the…

I was all in on your dramatic story until you ended it by saying you have gone straight back to drinking excessive amounts of water and are back to damaging your health through it. I am totally confused why you would even consider going back to that behaviour when it has already nearly killed you. Stop it!

As an engineer, all the quackery about sweat suits etc drives me crazy. Your body uses significant energy staying warm. It uses almost none keeping cool. Why? Because you are not a fridge. The human body has literally no way to reduce heat by burning energy. It reduces heat by reducing activity and sweating. So sweat…

If you're actually suffering from oedema and are uncomfortable from the bloating, talk to your doctor about it. That's a specific health problem and needs specific treatment. But if you just think you're carrying more water weight than you "should be", my advice is to stop fretting over things you can't control. Water…

When I saw a dietitian, I didn't even know I was obese. I was referred by my midwife in early pregnancy. The dietitian explained a lot of the basics, corrected some of my misconceptions and gave me some invaluable tips that I still use (eg use a smaller plate, keep a food diary). I think I'm fine flying solo now, but it…

Yes, I'm sure there are decent honest knowledgeable people trading as nutritionists. I'm also sure there are far more quacks, con artists and people with delusions of competence. There's just no way to know when there's no agreed standard for the term. It can mean literally anything.

Highest alcohol content per calorie? That would have to be hard spirits, as there's not much else in there apart from the alcohol and water. Alcohol itself has a constant number of calories per ml, so the only way this would vary would be if the drink has additional carbs. Sugary alcopops would certainly be one to avoid by…

Nobody can give you a simple answer on this, your doctor is genuinely the one best placed to know, and even so, won't necessarily be able to tell for sure. Periods are complicated. I do know that stress can stop your periods, and being very heavy is a big stress on your body. Losing weight will improve your health…

https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/ Scroll down, there's a calorie calculator for different types of drinks.
-
If you stick with one or two units of whatever drink, it should be not too hard to fit it into a calorie budget, provided you stay active. It'll help your cash budget too, and your health. Make sure you properly understand different types of drinks, what a unit is, how long alcohol takes to metabolise and, if you're…

Try not to go down the guilt and self-anger route. It will make it harder to lose weight, not easier. Start where you are at and just get going. You can do this.

Probably the next myth will be that breakfast is somehow bad for you.

In case the others haven't made it clear enough, "nutritionist" is not a real profession. I could call myself one if I wanted, without doing anything or gaining any qualification. Steer clear of people calling themselves "nutritionists". The qualified professionals are called registered dietitians (or dieticians - that's…

I think a super thin omelette would dry out if you made it ahead, and would not be flexible enough. That's really something you'd need to make fresh.

Personally I only eat when I'm flying manually. It's the stress, you know. When the autopilot's on, I take a nap. Don't tell air traffic control.
-
I mean, I suppose it might wake you up and make you feel more energetic, and therefore you might do more stuff, meaning you burn more calories. For some people it might do that. Is that the kind of thing we're talking about?

Confirmed.

I'm honestly not sure what it is. It was on a hotel buffet and I asked a waitress what it was. That's what she said. It was sort of vanilla and toffee. It did taste popcornish but the popcorn was not visible. ETA I suspect in my case the popcorn was hidden in the base.

I just ate a slice of popcorn cheesecake. Am I doing it right yet?

I have never used either, but speaking as a keen, experienced cook, they seem like an excellent way to learn to cook. Teaching yourself from recipes can be quite difficult, actually having the stuff sourced and portioned out for you must make it less daunting, and some things can only be learned by just getting in there…

Yes, you can make a jarred sauce much better by adding masses of veg
-
But how long do you have to chew the popcorn for? Sorry, I'm not sure I'm following this.

@TheWJordinWJordin eating plan. Seriously, it's just eating what you want to eat. You can call it whatever you like.

Scottish lentil soup Chop an onion, a carrot and two or three potatoes. Fry till onion is soft. Add red lentils* and veg stock or well-salted water. Cook in pressure cooker (10 min at 15psi), in saucepan (simmer ~1 hour) or slow cooker (4-5 hours on High or 8-10 hours on Low). Lentils should disintegrate. Stir and taste -…

Roger that. This is the Internet, after all.

The reference to butternut squash reminds me of a friend who was vegetarian at the time and discovered the existence of butternut squash. After giggling at its appearance for a while, they made a curry with it. I don't know what went wrong, but it was christened 'Fart Curry', because that's exactly what it smelt like.
