I am very confused by this thread, I can't see where anyone is being insulting and I don't understand what upset the OP in the first place. It seems like quite a peaceful, constructive discussion.

Yes, if you're bang on maintenance, as soon as you add exercise, you've created a deficit, and will lose weight the same as any other deficit.
-
Me too, if I ever want a really low calorie breakfast that will keep me going (say I'm going out for a big blowout meal that night), I'll go for a fried egg and a piece of wholemeal toast. Excellent calorie value.

Nobody is upset about asking for clarification. People are upset because you actually *told someone off* for expressing themselves in a different way from what you are used to. This is an international open forum. We all have to ask for clarification sometimes. What we don't do is lecture people for not using American…

@Mslmesq It seems rather parochial to expect the entire Web to speak English according to your local usage, and actually criticise them for not changing their way of speaking to suit you. It's a big world out here.

Good idea. I would definitely sacrifice the rice before losing the taco shells. Gotta have that crunch.

Thinking about this again the calories do puzzle me. I'm 5'4", around 185lb, at sedentary my NEAT is around 1850, so my TDEE is definitely over 2000.

Eating a chocolate bar for dinner would be a disruption to my eating plan... :o if I had scarfed my own weight in chocolate I would not consider it dinner, I'd blush, log it, and have a meal anyway. Take seriously the others all telling you that your calorie goal may be too low, as well, that's a very common mistake to…

I would assume OP means "tea" in the regional British and Irish sense of "evening meal", not just a particularly lardy cuppa. OP, the thing about eating tea, even if it puts you over your goal, is this: the mistake is already made. Skipping tea will not undo the mistake, it will just make another mistake of disrupting your…

It just takes time and practice to change these habits. It doesn't happen overnight. Take a few deep breaths and cut yourself some slack. You made a mistake, log it and learn from it. And don't skip tea. It won't help.

I agree, @kommodevaran - I enjoy my food more when I'm on a calorie budget, despite (or because of) the tension of wanting more than I can have.
-
Oh, all sorts, there are so many. But I'll pick one that has been amazingly enduring and helpful, despite being so basic: Use a smaller plate!

Just calorie counting. If we're talking inspirational shows, I like Secret Eaters and Supersize vs. Superskinny. Lots of sound advice and a minimum of woo (just put your fingers in your ears if Gillian McKeith appears).

Sure, if this fasting is only a one-off then that's different, I'm not sure, I got the impression from the OP that this was a regular practice. "Better to be under than over" - I don't really agree. I work to keep my average as close as possible to goal.

Frustration, yes. Unrequited greed, by all means. That's part of life. I'm not saying you always get to eat whatever you want, whenever you want it, and we all live happily ever after. Being a person predisposed to be fat, who has made a commitment not to be, is challenging, and it sucks at times. But anxiety,…

I think you are too focused on losing weight quickly, and have absorbed a lot of misinformation. No blame to you, there's an awful lot of it out there and we all fall for it from time to time. Weight loss is a long game, not a quick fix. You need to be thinking about sustainability and maintenance from the very outset.…

While you have to be consistent, determined and thorough to lose weight, I do NOT agree that you have to come close to disordered eating. Some of the behaviours may be superficially similar, but there are crucial differences - specifically, how you feel about it. Calorie counting and healthy choices should not be…

Seconded. If it was just the chest maybe it's heartburn but heartburn does not make your arm hurt. That worries me.

If you are fasting two meals, then the aim has to be to eat your whole allowance in the remaining meal. You should not be eating significantly under your goal, even if you are fasting for part of the day - you're already eating at a deficit, so eating less than that would be unhealthy. So it sounds like the issue is more…

This may be part of your problem. Get a bit more variety and fun food into your ordinary diet and you'll be a bit less desperate when it comes to eating out. Also, try inviting people over for a night at home based around something fun but lighter, like chilli with tortilla chips on the side. Scratches the nacho itch, but…

That's great progress, and you're positive attitude is inspiring. Well done.

Just sounds like unaccustomed hunger made you binge a bit at the evening meal. You'll need to practice restraint in order to spread those calories over two meals (I assume if you fast one meal, you're still eating the other two). I imagine this is the point of the practice, as fasting is about learning restraint and…

You need to keep the calories the same whole adjusting macros, or your rate of loss/gain/maintenance will change. You might find it helpful to do the change gradually. Don't be worried if your weight increases, you retain more water when you are eating a higher amount of carbohydrate, and that is completely normal and…

You know what, I think I'll pass.

http://www.lung.org/our-initiatives/healthy-air/outdoor/air-pollution/ozone.html Ozone is great for the ozone layer, anywhere else we want to minimise it. I realise it's naturally occurring in low amounts, but deliberately breathing it seems unwise.
-
I don't think ozone is very good for you in high concentrations.
-
Changing any of our eating habits is like turning an oil tanker. You're doing a good thing by helping her. Good for you.

First of all, hunger is worst in the first few weeks. It takes me 2-3 weeks after reducing my calories to stop feeling hungry. Secondly, are you eating your exercise calories? If you're following the myfitnesspal method, you need to log your exercise and eat the extra calories it gives you, otherwise you will undereat.

Congratulations on your weight loss, OP! You've done a great job making sensible, sustainable adjustments to your diet and exercise, and you're reaping the benefits. Keep it up! It's not the vinegar. I really am lost in admiration for whichever genius at Aspall's is running this ACV publicity machine. It's doing wonders…
