Pay rates were not mentioned in the article nor in the post, so you assume what she is being paid, right?.

^This^ Pink bells exists because people buy them. 10 lb bells exists because people buy them.People buy them because they see Jillian Michaels (among others) using them/coaching others to use them (and don't get me started on her kettlebell form!). TVs toughest trainer, my foot! Role models like this perpetuate the myth…

Just_Jennie and I have one thing in common - algebra is not now nor ever will be our subject. I was the same age as your son, in high school, about to flunk algebra and not graduate. Had to pass in order to graduate. Luckily I had a girlfriend who understood that gibberish and could communicate it to me. I passed with a…

Normally motivation is a non-issue, but there are times when it's a bit tougher than normal. In these times I fall back on my tried and true visualization. There was this guy who lived about 1.5 miles from my house. Disabled to a significant degree with braces on both legs. It was tough for him to walk or ride a bike. But…

I tend to agree with some of what others have written here, but until we know what your goals are, then we're all just sort of shooting in the dark. Secondly, does she have a kettlebell trainer's certification? Does she have a bias towards kettlebells?

Workout in your room. No need for a gym. Save time and do bodyweight exercises at home. Check out Body by You, Your Are Your Own Gym for starters. There are tons of bodyweight programs out there. If you feel the need to buy some equipment, get a kettlebell. It's something you can use is relatively small spaces and can…

I may get blasted between the running lights for this advice, but my advice to you is to not start running at this time. The factors you spell out in your initial post lead me to believe that you will be courting joint injuries in no time. I would rather see you put off starting a running program until you were at 160 or…

Scale for meats and such (like chicken and beef) and cups for liquids. Take your pick for things like grains, lentils, etc.

^What he said^ No one loses weight just through exercise; it is calorie deficit that allows weight to come off. Exercise helps to increase the number of calories burned, increasing the deficit, and, along with genetics, can be something of a determining factor in how you look once you've lost the weight.

Never been to a PF and probably never will, but this thinking illustrates why I gave up gyms about 15 years ago. The last gym I trained at, the manager gave me one of those nasty looks for a heavy barbell that slipped from my hand because why? NO CHALK! That was the last straw for me. For what you shell out in gym fees,…

My Korean is a bit rusty, but I think the Korean word for "No" is "On-nea". That and report to gym management.

I take my eggs scrambled. Usually 1 whole egg with 2 egg whites added when at home. If I'm eating out, I just go for whole eggs. I think there's more manufactured controversy with this issue than anything else. Chances are if you go overboard on whole eggs and chug down a couple dozen a day, its going to have an adverse…

This. I use both a FB and an HRM for the same purposes. Fitbit give me a minimum goal to achieve daily; so many steps per day. Not terribly intensive for the most part, but it is a minimum. My Timex HRM gives me a more accurate reading of calories burned during strenuous activity, for which I find FitBit and the estimates…

I might swap M*A*S*H for Bonanza.

In no particular order: 1. Barney Miller-most realistic police show every produced. Not being funny; dead serious. 2. Archer 3. The Sopranos 4. All in the Family 5. Bonanza Most of these date me, but they were great television for their time.

I use Quaker Old Fashioned Oats. 2 servings at a time in a good sized bowl (1 cup of oats and less than a cup of water to get the consistency I like). Heat on high for 90 secs. stop, stir thoroughly, then heat for another 90 secs. I always put a paper plate or other covering over the bowl. I find no taste difference…

#2 and Robin Meade, the anchor for Headline News Morning Express. I just saw her this morning doing a bit where Ice Cube and Kevin Hart "stop in" for a visit to her office. She has a treadmill set up at her office desk. So, when Kevin and Ice come into the office, who's on the 'mill with 3-4 inch heels? I'm pretty sure…

Training at home is cheaper and more efficient than training at a gym. Whether you use a DVD or not, I think it is just a better way to go. Money saved on gym dues can be used to buy your own equipment that you won't have to drive 20 miles or wait in line to use. I like Mark Lauren's books, Body by You (directed towards…

As little as possible. I do walk around or on a treadmill between sets of resistance exercise, so I guess that might count. Maybe a walk here and there, but rarely any running, jogging, biking, etc.

Maybe Darwin was right. I'm guessing it just isn't meant to be.

This is one that needs some terms defined. Perfectly toned means exactly what to you?

This is where a heart rate monitor that computes calories burned rocks. My focus is on bodyweight strength training. MFP gives some calorie expenditures for this exercise and that, but IMO, an HR monitor is more accurate. I time my entire session, the HR monitor gives me data including how many calories I've burned in that…

I'm 59, started here in September, lost almost 20 lbs before Christmas, and haven't found it to be all that hard at all. My wife is having even greater success than I am. I think we have a tendency to build it up as being much harder than it truly is. There are far too many myths out there regarding age and its impact on…

Your resistance bands won't help you lose fat all that efficiently. They will help you maintain or build muscle which does help with burning calories/fat, but unless you can find a workout with them similar to your kettlebell swings, don't expect them to do much in the fat burning department.
