What has your orthopedic surgeon given you to do?

I had the same thought. The whole thing is horrible, but if you are going to start pointing fingers and placing blame then yea - the zoo could sue the parents for the loss of the dog killed while attempting to rescue the boy. ETA - I, in no way, am saying the loss of the animal was more awful than the loss of the boy.

Seriously, read this success story and you'll want to lift really heavy. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/968182-i-lost-a-person-but-i-found-myself-leaky-s-story

Wow. Pure Awesome.

I got a lower back tattoo years ago before I heard the term "tramp stamp." So then a few years ago I decided to turn it from "stamp" to "piece." Now the tattoo extends from my butt to about my bra strap and I get compliments on it all the time. Even my mom who hates tattoos said she liked it.

This was an interesting listen. Thanks!

I think whey is the most inexpensive option. Plus, soy and I don't get along. But there are a lot of options when it comes to protein sources in protein powder. I like to mix it up. One day I'll drink a whey based protein powder, the next I'll use a vegetarian formula (like Vega One - which gets protein from pea, hemp and…

I would love to look like just about every female posted here (any of them, they and you are all gorgeous), but I'm more focused on what I want to be able to do with my body. Like this:
-
Yep - eat more protein. Ignore MFP. A good rule of thumb is about 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of lean body mass.

Ooooh... I didn't know about the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens! Thanks! I did Shakespeare in the Park last summer to see "Into the Woods" since it is my all time favorite musical (and I know it isn't actually a Shakespeare play). I got there super early and sat in the rain for hours, but it was so worth it. A lot of museums…

I just saw a news special about Jack3d: the stimulant called dimethylamylamine, or DMAA can cause heart attacks... I don't usually believe what I see on TV (hello Dr. Oz), but The New York Times also reported on it:…

I just read about this on Bust. I know I am so hard on myself, when I look in the mirror my eyes go directly to what is wrong (or what I think is hideous). This is such a great reminder to love ourselves more! Here is the link to the article with stills of the sketches:…

I agree with what just about everybody is saying above - you're losing inches - that is awesome, don't worry so much about what the scale says. But... I also understand your concern... you still want the number to go down. It will, but you are now holding onto that awesome muscle and losing only the fat so you will lose…

Amazing!

Soooo expensive for a little bar.

I have the NROL (for women). The info is great. I learned a lot from reading the book. The program is not optimal IMO. I do not know if the standard NROL is different from the one for women, but I'm finding the lifts overly complicated. I'm currently doing Stage 2 which is all 2x10 (2 sets of 10 reps each), and the lifts…

Yep, I just don't understand it. What kind of satisfaction do they get out of being a troll?

Honestly, it sounds like he'll be just fine. He's active, it sounds like he is eating pretty well, you are educating him on proper nutrition.... It sucks that kids are teasing him, but some kids are just jerks. He could be the fastest, slimmest kid on the team and there will be a little jerk in training out there that will…

I played a ton of sports as a kid. In high school I did soccer, swim team, and track and I was still fat. 2 hours a day in a pool and I was fat. It is all about diet.
-
I wouldn't force him to do something he doesn't want. Exercise should be fun for kids and adults. Is he dangerously overweight? What is his diet like?

I'm the same weight and height (33 years old). I'm aiming to eat 1500-1600 cals/day, but every weekend has been a mess for me so I haven't actually lost anything. I've maintained- and considering my weekends - I"m thinking if I kept at it and didn't fly off the handle on the weekend I would actually be losing. I wouldn't…

You can put slices on a piece of toasted whole grain bread and drizzle some olive oil on it = delicious. I found the texture kind of revolting at first when I tried eating slices raw, but now I love them. I love their nutty flavor. You can add them to salads or sandwiches.

Yep. This. I weight just about everything before preparing/cooking. I love my scale. I hardly use measuring cups any more.

I hate the whole red/green thing. You see red and automatically think bad, when it isn't always.

Thanks! I will do this all tonight when I get home from work. ETA: from what I understand the RMR fluctuates because the testing situation isn't as strict as BMR testing. I ate a breakfast of 250 calories and then fasted for 4 hours before testing. Does that make my RMR results a little more close to my BMR?
-
I got my RMR tested today. I really thought (hoped) it would be higher. 1512 isn't bad, but using the online calculators I was assuming my BMR to be about 1500. I am now very curious what my BMR is. The nutritionist I met with in order to get tested suggested I eat about 1450 per day to lose weight. Considering I lift 3…

So true! Last night I hit up my local produce place. Strawberries, bananas, broccoli, celery, a yam and an onion = $7.35

The problem is I don't really want to throw one for her. I'm still recovering from her wedding which was less then a year ago (I had to fly out of state and use vacation time for). Maybe I'm being a horrible friend. Obviously, part of me feels like I should do something for her, but I really don't want to. I'm clearly just…
