You are just fantastic!

In all seriousness, if you're planning to run in the woods, buy some bear spray (basically pepper spray) if you're concerned. Several of my friends have had their yards and campsites plagued by bears, this year.

I generally don't eat back most of my exercise calories for two reasons. One, I have my loss goals set to .5lb per week as more of a psychological thing as I tend to panic-binge when I have it set to lower calories. Two, I don't trust all my measurements and history has taught me that I tend to round down so I figure the…

Hi there! I'm 2.5wks away from meeting baby #2. I lost 12kg (~26.5 lbs) total, going up and down a bit, between baby #1 and getting pregnant with this one. With my first pregnancy, I don't really know but best guess is that I gained around 25kg (55lbs) and ate horribly for most of it as we were living off takeout while…

A banana in the early hours does wonders for me. Balances my blood sugar and keeps me going until my oddly snoozey preschooler decides to wake up for her unbelievably late breakfasts.

As much sympathy as I have for you, OP, you seem to be pretty self-aware and strong. I feel a LOT of pity for your mom, though. It sounds like no one (in authority, at least) has ever made her feel valued for anything other than her appearance, and as that's faded/fading she's trying to live vicariously through you and her…

But it is entirely possible for even an 800lb person (seriously people, stop debating extremes, and watching too much reality TV) to wake up one day and choose to eat healthy foods from then on. It is also perfectly possible for a 250 lb person to decide to start walking to work or biking to school. It's additionally very…

"Boundless" by Cynthia Hand. It's a nice YA read with some decent character development. I can't handle much heavier stuff while I'm studying :)

Hello! I'm going through a similar pregnancy (had SPD last preg, too, but not yet this time!). Feel free to msg or add me if you want a fellow overweight pregnancy buddy :)
-
Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm just over 3 months along and have been sticking at roughly 1900-2200 cals per day. I'm already overweight and gained a LOT with my first pregnancy so I'm trying to keep things fairly level, this time, allowing for ~10kg (22 lbs) of gain. Nutritionally, bad nausea had me eating white carbs…

While I'm dubious of the pink slime bashing, screw supermarket meat. I'll stick to my annual half-a-beast order from the farm down the road. They use the trimmings, too, but for sausages. The ground meat is whatever cut I ask them to use . I can even keep the fat for rendering "dripping" and the dogs get a year's supply of…

I've looked through her stuff online, including meal pics, and really don't have much of a problem with her choices. She's not eating fruit only, but she is eating high carb. So what? Vegetarians and vegans have healthy babies every day. She discussed having good blood tests, etc, so she's clearly getting prenatal care.…

Nah, if anything I try to give myself some wiggle room (overestimation). But now that I have my nifty new digital food scale, that'll happen less. I want this to work. Not exactly sure what lying/cheating accomplishes.

I "quick soak" my beans, which is basically just pre-cooking them a bit. Then I cook until tender (can be hours) salting halfway through the cooking time. Then I freeze up a truckload of them in 2-4 cup batches (in their cooking water) so I don't have to do this every time I want beans :D Cooking them in their soak water…

Bumpty bump! :D I'd probably serve it with a veggie maque choux and salad. Or over linguine tossed with sauteed purple cabbage (seasoned w/ a splash of Tabasco mmmm.

Excellent! Keep up the good work!

I'm also on day 3 smoke-free (not nic free yet, though). No yucky feelings yet except for some panic/anxiety from psychological withdrawals, but no hacking/sneezing. I'm using nicotine mints right now but will replace them with Altoid smalls (taste is similar). Not worried about weight when I go nic-free because I'm…

Yeeeah, Agenda 21 doesn't scare me, nor does a national curriculum. I think both are fantastic aims and both are already in play where I live.

Not hungry, no, but I do go to bed with late-night-munchyitis, sometimes, to avoid the siren call of the peanut butter mug cake :noway: If I'm genuinely hungry, I'll have a piece of fruit. My mom's endocrinologist recommends having a banana shortly before bed to help stabilize blood sugars overnight and avoid early morning…

I know a few people (friends and family) who are very happy with their WLS, but have also gone back for liposuction and skin removal procedures. 'Course, my gf lost 100lb the diet/exercise way and also opted to have lipo and skin removal after reaching her goal. I have a couple close friends who have, unfortunately, had…

We'll probably "home school" for part or all of 1st grade, but that's because we plan on spending 3-4 months in a caravan/RV driving around Oz, then will be moving to the US (I'm an American living in Australia). After that, we'll be carefully selecting our new home to be in a good, progressive public district...but we're…

I'm pretty impressed with the "Taylor" brand. Mine has lasted forever and measures within 100g of my wii fit, so I figure if they agree they must be ok-ish. 'Course if you're talking about food scales then I dunno! Still shopping for mine.

If people aren't getting indicators of thirst when they're thirsty, or are consciously ignoring thirst, they have bigger problems than coffee vs water. I see the "drink like you're in the desert" mentality as being tied to our (developed world) aversion to rumbling stomachs. Thirst and hunger are good things that tell us…

I just think it's cute that people (and I mean every site I've visited, not just people here!) with full fridges and running tap water think they, on an average day (unless ill), genuinely run a risk of becoming dehydrated. Bottled water marketing groups sure did a good job in the last 20 years!

Count me in! :)

I lost 3kg on vacation between walking all over the place, dancing, and getting a brief travel bug lol. I find keeping busy and enjoying myself tends to make weight stabilize or reduce on vacation even if I'm indulging food/beverage-wise.

Married 5 years, together for 7. 1 almost-3yo daughter and 2 girl dogs. Trying for another kid. He's definitely outnumbered :) Even the kiddo says "Mama is the boss!" lol

I think the people on that show need a lot of therapy before anything else. Also, I used to manage some sideshow performers and it reminds me of what freakshows used to be a long time ago, exploitation and ridicule under the guise of entertainment.

I am a total foodie. FGS I'm studying to be a social researcher of FOOD! :) Loving food is the BEST excuse for him to learn new cuisines and techniques. He's being stubborn and doesn't truly enjoy cooking for others if he's only cooking things he will enjoy. However, you should also remember that plenty of countries with…
