  • The very first thing you need to do it get yourself into a pair of jeans that isn't 2 sizes too small. That along will do wonders for you. No one looks good when they try to stuff themselves into the wrong clothes.
  • 5'4" here. No way in hell I could ever survive on 1,100 calories per day, even if I sat on my *kitten* all day. What got me to where I am was 1800-2400 calorie per day and P90X (mix of lifts and cardio). What's keeping me here is 1600 on rest days and up to 2200 on active days. I do some bodyweight to maintain mass, but my…
  • Lack of planning ends in failure. Think about what you should be eating ahead of time. Take a few minutes out of your day to do a little research and have a few option in mind ahead of meal time. Do you have a smartphone? Tablet? The MFP apps make it all ridiculously simple to log every meal in under a minute.
  • Several times. Car accidents, my daughter's seizures, son's broken femur, drunk drivers, suspicious vehicle in a neighborhood with several attempted kidnappings (truck fit description of suspect vehicle).
  • Unless you're diabetic or have some other metabolic disorder which can be impacted by sugars, you don't have to worry about it. Even the so-called "bad" sugars. Be careful with the smoothies too. Don't drink from a straw and use fruit without small seeds. You don't want to do any damage while you're trying to heal.
  • Caffeine has a slight diuretic effect, but a Coke is not going to dry you out. Water is of course the best choice, but any source of hydration is better than none. You want your urine to be a very pale yellow. If it is dark or has a strong odor, you need to drink more.
  • Cheeseteak for me. Washed down with some Everclear Apple Pie (cider, apple juice, sugar, and grain alcohol) YUM!
  • One does not have to give up any of those things to be healthy. Moderation. Moderation. Moderation.
  • I closed my diary because I got tired of people sending me messages scolding me for eating only 1-2 servings of veggies or for adding sugar to my cereal. Don't judge others and don't 'let the actions of others bother you. You can certainly get great ideas from others, but ultimately you need to find what works best for you…
  • That depends entirely on how calorie dense the food is. I can eat a whole lot more broccoli than pizza. An eating disorder can certainly change things though. Perhaps the dietitian was thinking that an over stuffed feeling would increase the desire to purge.
  • I couldn't get past the texture
  • Everyone is different. I've tried the so-called "good carb only" approach. I bonked hard. That's the whole key to success. Everyone needs to experiment and find the approach that works best for them. Saying one type of food is "good" or "bad" does everyone a disservice.
  • I average 50-120 grams of sugar per day, most from refined sources. I can't say that it has hindered my progress at all.
  • The olives are most certainly NOT the problem. Also, a week does not make a plateau. They pizza very likely could have caused some water retention, but it wouldn't totally derail you. How many calories are you averaging? Opening your diary would make it a lot easier for us to point you in the right direction
  • Continued fat loss is all that is going to help, but really, everyone has a little "pooch" when they sit because the skin gets compressed. Good posture will help.
  • Actually when you hit a plateau it's better to do the opposite. I busted through plateaus (it took me 2 years to get where I am) by increasing my calories to my maintenance level. Low may work in the short term, but in the long run it is only going to derail you. Even 1200 is far too low. I never ate less than 1600 on rest…
  • 7 posts and all link to this web site. Spammer.
  • I stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore. Usually after my 9:00pm bowl of cereal.
  • In my experience, cutting out foods because they're "bad" is nonsense and only leads to feelings of deprivation. I didn't cut a single thing from my diet. The only difference it that now, instead of 1.5 cups of ice cream, I will have 1/2 cup on a sugar cone. I tend to eat a lot slower with a cone (50 calories) than I would…
  • Nope. I was hiking Spruce Mountain today. No service (cellular or digital) whatsoever on my Verizon phone, but Endo worked perfectly. I've used it on the top of Pike's Peak as well.
  • This is how I am. If I decide to have pancakes for lunch they may get logged as breakfast because that's where I can find them the fastest.
  • Can you open your diary so we can see exactly what and how much you are eating? A proper caloric intake is very important for healthy fat loss. You are unlikely to have gained muscle with what you are doing and you certainly didn't gain 3 pounds of muscle in such a short time, but it sounds like you are on the right track.…
  • I run Endomondo Pro on an iPhone 5. I also had it on my old 4S. I can't say that I have ever had any issue with it shutting down. Today I was hiking in an area that had absolutely no cellular or digital signal, but the GPS on Endo was perfect the whole way. It does suck that they aren't more helpful though.
  • I've gotten to know a lot of the trails in the last couple of months. I hike the Templeton at Palmer Park at least once a week. Today I was up at Spruce Mountain. I've also done Paint Mines, Gold Camp, Seven Bridges, and a few others I can't recall the names of. I've done the Incline 3 times, with a best of 1:02. I'm…
  • I started MFP at 170 pounds almost 2 years ago (day 720 logging today). At my absolute highest I was 200. I hit my goal a few weeks ago and am now working on learning what it takes to maintain.
  • Sodium may cause water retention, but it is not going to keep you from losing fat. Drink plenty of water and you'll be fine. Sugar is not the enemy unless you have diabetes or some other metabolic disorder which causes problems. I don't track my sugar or sodium intake at all because it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of…
  • I see a lot of junk food and a whole lot of alcohol. As long as you're tracking accurately and carrying a deficit you should lose weight, but you're not exactly making healthy choices. You're also quick adding calories pretty frequently. It's impossible to get a good picture without accuracy.
  • Nope. Unless you have a metabolic issue with sugar, sugar in general won't hinder your weight loss if you consistently carry a caloric deficit. I'm a sugar fiend and have had no problem losing weight.
  • I am totally incapable of spending the day on my *kitten*. I get grumpy if I'm not physically active and I love to hike. A "rest day" for me usually just means a shorter hike and no strength training that day.
  • I think it's a personal matter to decide on a case by case basis. My brother shared a home with my mom until he was about 32. He didn't stay because he's some loser slacker, he stayed because she couldn't afford the place on her own. I think it's unfair to judge any situation based only on age. There can be a lot of…
