  • For me it's work boredom/frustration that gets the munchies going. Hot tea (plain as well as various herbals like mint or cinnamon) works great, as well as making sure I've had enough protein during the day. Low protein/higher carbs will always set me grazing, but high-protein snacks work well (almond milk, yogurt,…
  • I have a real problem with this too--I'm on the computer all day all week, and some weekends I can't bear to even turn it on at home! I'm working on pre-logging Friday nights and as much of Sat as I can. I'm happy with 6 days out of 7 at this point--it's 6 more days than I was logging just a few months ago! :)
  • I'll let you know if I ever make it through any maintenance phases! My life has pretty much always been spent gaining or losing. :ohwell:
  • ^^ This. I'm gone 12 hours a day and even though I've spent it all sitting at a desk or in a car, I feel exhausted at the end and don't exercise.
  • I used to be a farmer's market vendor (as a second job) with organic veggies, free-range eggs, low-sugar jams, and fresh bread. I *love* to make bread but I have no self-control around it, so baking for market was perfect! I make crusty European-style artisan breads mostly.
  • Beautiful story, beautiful results!
  • I loved the book Strong Women Stay Young by Dr. Miriam Nelson. She's all about lifting slowly and to your maximum and it's written in a very engaging way. It's not power lifting, but the turnarounds some of the senior women in the book experienced is amazing and empowering.
  • If I know I'll have more than one day's worth of leftovers OR I'll be making a similar dish again, I use the recipe builder. Otherwise, I just log the ingredients used. On the plus side, even if you don't build a recipe, the ingredients will be in your Recent Foods section, so if you have one day of leftovers they are easy…
  • Start at lower doses and take it on a full stomach. I started at 500 mg, split in 2 doses, and worked up to 1500 also taken morning and evening. It helps if you balance your carbs and protein (which is good anyway for PCOS/insulin resistance). The only times it can still make me feel nauseated is if I take it having eaten…
  • With large weight loss there's often some muscle loss as well as fat loss. More muscle really helps regulate body temps--yet another reason to lift!
  • Well, it started as a harvest festival/stock up for the long cold winter thing, like most cultures have in one form or another. And yes, we do the same at Christmas, only with PRESENTS! It's all pagan, really--gathering around the fire and sharing food with the clan, then celebrating making it through the shortest…
  • starting new things with enthusiasm but then gradually giving up
  • I loved your ranting.

  • Losing 8 lbs in under 4 weeks is great, and means that whatever you're doing, it's working for you! Good job, and just hang in there--it all gets easier. :) Edited to add: I just read your profile, and if you've been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, you do need to work on balancing your carbs with protein (and fat and fiber, but…
  • I'm older (53) and also no kids. I'm a great auntie and never needed more, but I also have PCOS so I feel your pain on that one. I got married at 42 (1st for both of us). Feel free to add me for support! PCOS means the weight comes off slower and takes more effort, but it can be done.
  • I work 8-5 and live quite a ways away so I'm gone from home 11 hours a day. It's been hugely difficult for me to combat desk boredom and bring enough/healthy foods for the day! The biggest help for me was to have only protein or no more than half protein/half carbs for breakfast (and preferably lunch too). Then I seem to…
  • Fantastic--you look terrific and you really know what you're doing! Thanks for posting.
  • I'm aiming for 175. When I was younger I hit 135 for a while and no one (including me) thought I looked healthy--I was gaunt and frazzled looking. Honestly, I'll be happy with gaining muscle and losing body fat percentages, no matter what the scale ends up as. I'm tired of being weak, exhausted, and having my feet hurt all…
  • I'm Kerry, pleased to be here.
  • I figure if I get back into lifting weights it will help with any sagginess issues. We'll see!
  • ^^^ Yes. Thank you.
  • wow, that's amazing! Isn't it nice when hard work gets rewarded. :)
  • I do a LOT of canning--mainly pickles, sauces, and low-sugar jams. I joke that anything that doesn't walk away from me I'll put in a jar. :) I was a farmer's market vendor for several years and just loved it but unfortunately have no time for it now I have a long-hour desk job. You know, it doesn't really sound like you…
  • My BP is always super high in a doctor's office. You might get a home monitor and keep track that way. You absolutely will lower your BP with weight loss and exercise! I hate doing cardio, but I do it for my BP. I do the weights for me. :)
  • I've discovered that if I start off with snacking on things with no protein, it sets me up badly for the whole day. If I have plain yogurt, cottage cheese, or a hard-boiled egg as my first snack, I have no problem moderating. Same goes for breakfast, actually!
  • Hi Carol! I'm not an app person so I use MFP on my computer--nice that it works every which way! I don't follow a clean eating plan per se but I'm an organic gardener so lean that way anyhow. Welcome!
  • "I thought- I've tried everything and nothing's worked! Uh, well, it turns out I've actually tried nothing. " ^^^this. SO my problem too. I have to keep telling myself--just *thinking* about trying to lose weight isn't *doing* anything about it. :)
