Is My Neck Going To Get More Saggy?

Recently I have begun to worry a lot about how my neck looks. Even though I have never lost a lot of weight quickly or at all, I do have some loose skin on it. I am so afraid that it will get much worse with weight loss. Is anyone else worried about this?

I figure if I get back into lifting weights it will help with any sagginess issues. We'll see!0

Being overweight stretches the skin, so as you lose you may have extra for awhile. Exercising can help tighten you up all over.
But you have to understand, that over time gravity wins; it always wins; and everything that used to be high and tight...well...
If you really find it unsightly, and exercise doesn't seem to help, you can consider cosmetic surgery.0 -
If by neck you mean under your chin you can help tighten it by tipping your head back so you're looking at the ceiling and with your mouth closed make exaggerated chewing motions as though you've got a big wad of gum in your mouth. You'll feel the pull under your chin and down your neck when you do it.
Best time to do it to save yourself looking like you're in the middle of a stroke is probably just before you get up and before you go to sleep ever day.0 -
Yes, I realize that age makes a difference, but I want to do what I can.
I have read of that exercise, but haven't actually been doing it, since I sometimes wonder if certain exercises actually stretch the skin.0 -
You can always go with the alternative and stay fat to maintain a nice firm neck. Lots of people have saggy neck skin that have never been over weight. It comes with age and genetics unfortunately.0

Comes down to age and genetics. If your mother's neck is firm good chance yours will be ok.
My mum and grandmother's fortunately have good skin elasticity and no wrinkles. Fingers x'd I'll be lucky too.0 -
The neck stretch exercise mentioned above is excellent. I recommend it too.0

So the exercise is supposed to build up the muscle under the skin - thereby making the skin tighter?0

I suspect that one's neck is going to sag somewhat as one ages regardless of weight. It may be more of matter of having 2 or more chins sagging rather than just one. Seiously though, you're almost halfway to goal and the benefit you'll experience will exceed any worries over your neck. Aging is going to happen, but being 40 pounds over your desired weight is within your control to change...and believe me, that you've taken back your power is much more important than a few more neck creases.0

Honestly, I was really worried about this 3-4 months ago and now I'm not at all.
I am 37 and I feel like I look 30-35 except for my neck which looks 40s to me. And I'm honestly okay with it, after looking at tons of photos from my recent wedding and other pictures of me 'now' I prefer my skinny (for me) neck with the beginnings of a turkey wattle like my thin aunt, to having a double chin like I did once.0 -

I agree with this. The women in my family have no crow's feet, nice looking skin, decent chests & bums even in their 50s and 60s, but turkey necks and ultra flappy upper arms. I'm ok with all of that, and I don't really have a choice as there's only so much diet/exercise will do.0 -

If you have time look up videos that show "Facial Yoga" or "Facial Exercises." There's a road range of moves you can do that will work out the muscles in your neck and face and help with some of the issues. I've done it off and on and I do notice a difference if I do it regularly. It's like any other work out though, the results take time. But the above commenter that mentioned the neck exercise is right on track. It won't make you saggier anymore than stretching will make you jigglier.0

Eh, what's a little loose skin? As we get older, it all goes to hell anyway. The trick is to not care.
Think about it, look at celebrities who have "aged gracefully" like Judi Dench and Helen Mirren, and compare them to others like Joan Rivers who have had tons of plastic surgery to "look younger". Is Joan Rivers fooling anyone? And don't Judi Dench and Helen Mirren look great "au naturel"? Being youthful is fine when you're young, but when you get older, it's kind of inappropriate. :bigsmile:0 -

One of the things that I found very helpful, besides the exercises already mentioned, is to hydrate the neck area.
Many ladies when they moisturize their faces, they neglect their necks (and the upper chest area). So go ahead treat the neck with a nourishing cream and apply it with an upward motion (from the lower part of your neck toward the jaw bone), and don’t forget to moisturize your chest area too.0 -
Its all a tradeoff I guess. I'm 54 and no amount of exercises in the world are going to shape up my saggy skin...but as the weight comes off my cheekbones look great!
Go with the exercise suggestions too, if it tones those muscles under that pesky skin then it can only help!0
