@ridiculous59 , I hear you about CICO. I've never been completely certain of what my calorie goal should be...I'm 64, have always had insulin resistance (even when at a healthier weight) with PCOS and other hormonal imbalances that make me think I just need to eat less than what MFP says. That said, I'm also 5'8" and not…

I'm home/here! Is there anything you want to talk about? I'm doing well with logging my food but not doing well with weight loss, what's up with that?
-
Hi all! My name is Kerry and I'm back on MFP again, trying different ways to stay engaged with my health journey this time. I'm 64 and just "retired " from my computer job. I put retired in quotes for 2 reasons: I was laid off, it wasn't voluntary, but I can't bring myself to apply for any new jobs; and I have a farmers…

Hi all, I've been on MFP for over 10 years but am too inconsistent to ever have the progress I want. I'm 64, have about 50 lbs to lose, and it's becoming more imperative with every ache and pain lol.
-
I have the same problem.
-
Ugh, I get migraines too, and they derail any lovely weight-loss streak I manage to put together. Carbs help me, as does the act of chewing, and between the drugs and the pain I don't/can't make good choices. The best I hope for is to get back on track after, so I wish the same for you and hope the pain eases soon.

I'm really struggling with finding any weight loss lately. I had a pretty easy time last year, staying around 1400 net calories (1200 is not sustainable for me at 5'8") but this year I feel like I'm doing the same thing (probably closer to 1500/1600 net) but nothing budges. Can a few hundred calories really make all the…

I love the mushroom pics! I'm just learning about them myself and so far have only dared to eat chanterelles.

You might want to eat a little more earlier in the day as well. I find when I'm doing "great" at work and looking forward to having plenty of calories left for home, I kind of set myself up for nonstop eating due to starving myself during the day.

I just have to say I *love* this thread and thank you, thank you for it! I wish my hubs would log but he relies on my logging for the both of us lol. As he does the majority of the cooking, he's at least been great about keeping track of amounts and making the adjustments we need to stay in my calorie zone for the most…

I was on a similar program for a while and found I still needed to track. I used the parts of the other program that I felt were sustainable for me in the long term (eating more slowly, being mindful, rating my hunger on a scale before I ate, etc) but kept logging, which is really the only thing that's ever worked for me.
-
Wow, that's terrific!

I'd love to join this party! I've struggled with my weight my whole life, but when I log, I lose--it's as simple (and as hard) as that. My problem is with consistency. I lost 30 lbs last year but nothing this year, and I've got 30 to go before getting out of the obese zone. Here's wishing us all good health.

"Strong Women Stay Young" made a huge difference to me and to my understanding of progressive strength training. it's also fun to read and empowering, as it really explains the science.
-
wow, way to go!

Just checking in--my weigh-in is on Mondays, and I lost 2 pounds, woo hoo! Unfortunately I have a migraine today and eating carbs helps but I'm trying to keep things moderated.

Hi there! I've been following (lurking lol) for a while and am finally jumping in. Height: 5'8" SW: 244 (up and around this number since 2015) End of January Weight: 232 February Goal Weight: 228 Final GW: 185, then see where I am and where I want to be I began again for real last month, and this time my husband (who is…

If you're using a meatless recipe, you can always put the crockpot on a timer to switch on whenever you want.
-
wow, all that hard work really shows! And...can you come cook for me, lol?
-
This time around, I finally realized that what was holding me back was an all-or-nothing mentality: I resented having to deprive myself, although I sure wasn't happy where I was. So now I'm only making changes that are sustainable for the longterm and that don't make me miserable thinking about doing them for the rest of…

Today I'm reading about everyone's small healthy changes, which is inspiring me to make my own!

ah well, everyone does react differently. I don't love being on Met but it helps weight loss work...but ONLY if I'm also logging food while balancing my carbs with protein, doing some cardio, and some weight training! But If I do all those, I don't find I need to exercise like crazy--30-45 minutes 5 days a week will do it…

It can take a while for your body to adjust to metformin--my doctor started me on 500 mg once a day, then twice a day after a couple of weeks, then gradually increased it over a month. It really helped me tolerate it, especially because I make a point of only taking it with a meal. It's really the only thing that made me…

wow--great post and JUST what I needed to read today!
-
thank you all for your stories--I really needed them today!

@sijomial, that's cool, I did not know that. Glad my fat cells aren't *complete* slackers, lol.
-
I love the book Strong Women Stay Young...it got me started on strength training and is easy to do at home.

I wish we had a universally easy and accurate way of measuring body fat. I think that is the one missing component in determining both CI and CO....after all, fat doesn't need or burn calories, but lean matter does. Yet it seems that all programs start with just weight in determining CICO. A woman my age, height, and…

you can do it! Eating better helps reduce sugar and insulin spikes and exercising helps your muscles be able to use your natural insulin better.

I grate potatoes and carrots into my chili for some hidden veggies. :)
