WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2024

Good morning ladies!
I did get rid of several dresses, but kept a few just in case. Many of them were solid colors that make me look and feel lumpy.
My uniform these days is a tee shirt over yoga pants, sometimes with a sweatshirt, too. And jeans some days. I need to be careful because I could gain another ten pounds and not know it.
My plan for maintenance did not work. I gained twenty pounds since last July. Now the muscle aches are coming back, and my jeans are tight so I really need to rein it in. All my bad habits came back - too much sugar, not logging, cookies and chocolate. Sigh.
Lisa that pothole sounds scary! Glad you weren't hurt. And you are making lovely progress with your house. Fabulous!
Barbara my dad can walk to the senior center. There might be rides available but he would have to admit that his driving is suspect. Actually I don't ride with him anymore so I don't know how bad it is.

Michelle NV - I'm so sorry to hear about Trinket's lump - I agree with Debbie's actions on the part of her mama cat. If it is not bothering Trinket, why traumatize her completely with little real outcome in terms of the enjoyment and length of her life? Egg too was feral, but only about six weeks old, so bonded with us quite strongly. She adores Corey, and pretty much treats me like another resident cat, I think... fun to play with, warm to sit on, easy to annoy. She looks like a lap cat because that's when I take pictures. Most of the time, not so much.
Allie - On the subject of animals, I think Alfie would have a wonderful and amazing life with Tom and Elena, as well as joyful reunions with you when they travel. They're much more set up for a dog, and I am sure they miss theirs. Plus, as Machka noted, it would give a much less noisy and stressful environment for you and Siri.
Barbara AHMOD - "Guess it’s been a while since we bought a new car. . . " The donuts or "space saver" tires have been around for a LONG time. Volkswagen was using them by the late 1980s, and more than half of car manufacturers use them now. Very few trucks have them, because they're used to diminish the overall weight (and cheaper for the manufacturers). So sorry the shoulder is continuing to pain.
Betsy - So glad you're back and safe and enjoying your quiet. My exhaustion in being around other people is almost fully driven by noise. I don't tolerate it well anymore.
Annie - So pleased your dad is jumping on the senior center opportunities! Thanks for the comment on the reno - always nice when something is done. If I wore dresses (I don't), I would keep only three. One to wear to a wedding, one to wear to a funeral and one to wear on a hot date. You can always buy another if the date works out.
Time to snag Corey a second cup of coffee and get going in the laundry room. Hope it's a lovely Sunday for everyone.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa4 -
Allie-I too wonder if there is someway you could walk Alfie? Walking is a great exercise for us. I see many of the seniors in my area out walking their dogs. I have seen them with different tools for pickup so they don't have to stoop. You are fortunate to have an alternative home for him.
Barbara AHMOD-I can relate to really doing nothing and then having something. Years ago I was leaning over to plug in an iron. I felt a crunch and electric type feeling in neck then horrible pain and limited arm mobility. That was my first herniated cervical disc!
Annie-good job with dresses. No need to keep frumpy stuff regardless.
Heather-I only work on weekends when it is something that really needs done. Due to staffing changes in last couple of weeks I am covering some other things. Once the raises and a couple of other smaller things are cleaned up it should go better. Will be busy days but less time on weekends. Plus, right now I am out of office at least 3.5 hours for physical therapy so that cuts out some work time. I will not eliminate pt so I figure in the rest of it as I can.
So yesterday evening decided to put together vacuum stand I got for Dyson (don't want to put holes in wall). Decided this am (after I got Dyson out to see how it would work) that I didn't like the function of it. So it is taken back apart (the stand) and ready for return. Will drop if off one of my pt days this week (close to each other).
The Dyson I think I will really like. The problem is, with the light it has on it-you really see the dirt, dust, and cat hair. So it is motivating me to deep clean! I have come up with alternative storage for it right now. I have one of those plastic crates (similar to old milk crates but much cheaper). I can store it in a corner in back room close to power outlet, have it vacuum stand up and put attachments in crate. Need to get the older, cheaper one I had and get it ready for Goodwill (which is close to UPS store!)
Off to get stretches in. I did not do them yesterday. Foot is acting up a bit. Want to see if with stretches it makes it through 2.5 miles today.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio5 -
Sunday -- cool and rainy
So I spent the first half of the day cleaning, vacuuming etc.
Then I sat down and read until I finished the book I was reading.
I am feeling ... I don't know ... a little weird. I am so used to having things I need to do because there is a pressing deadline: university, medical reports, legal battles, job hunting, cycling events, even organising our trip to Canada last October. And now I don't have a pressing deadline. I have heaps to do but just now I feel a little lost.

If I could cut my own hair then ditto. Unfortunately, because it is a straight bob, it needs a very skilled professional. If it were curly, I'd do it myself. I hate paying their prices. As it is, I go in for a 'wet cut', where they wash and trim it, then just give it a quick ruffle blow dry, and I leave with it slightly damp and no styling. Saves a few pounds.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx
my hair is very curly and very long so I cut my own hair. I have colored it in the past but haven't in almost 10 yrs. I put it in a braid, cut off the bottom inch or two and am done. If I see a split end, I just cut it off. Very simple
Back in high school and when I was first married, I did the Sun In spray. Former hubby still calls me Blondie
The only thing I do to my hair is use a curl activator cream/gel(depending on the brand) after I wash it to keep the curls nice for church or what ever. By the end of the week it is pulled back in a braid.

Hi Gals,
I’ve been reading but not participating. I sent good thoughts to each of you, cheers for the celebrations, hugs for the sad parts, welcome to the newbies and peace for everyone.
It was a 4-5 month decline, and the last 3 weeks were really tough but on Thursday February 1, I said my last goodbyes to Levi as he passed in my lap at the vets. We had 11 + years of friendship, love and caring. I am missing him terribly. I did choose to close the business for 2 1/5 days due to a death in the family, but am back to work as of yesterday at noon. Work is good for filling the quiet, but then night falls and I am alone with my tears. Time will soften the memories and I will be ok. I am hoping to do some overnight dog sitting in a month or so, as a way to get my dog fix and to earn a bit of extra cash. There is a possibility of a bit of travel in October so I will wait until that is either over or cancelled before getting a new doggie friend.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

Sitting here, waiting for dh's friend. We are riding together to do the show. Of course, he is late. He said he would be here at 7 and now, at 8 he is not here, said had some kind of car trouble.
Dh was seriously thinking about canceling on him before that. Huge storm hitting us all day(started last night-listened to the rain and wind all night. Worrying about trees falling.
I am ok going or staying home.
One post was this "A "meteorological bomb" is approaching the Bay Area today and is forecast to bring damaging wind, flooding rain, large waves, heavy snow, thunderstorms and even a chance of a tornado this afternoon"

Today is a good day for a sweater! 30 mph winds again and 51 degrees outside make for a nasty wind chill. Good day for stuffed mushrooms and home made soup! BTW, I include the Independence Day of various countries for 2 reasons: 1. I don’t want to leave anyone out because of where they live, and 2. I don’t know where all the flags are from, so post so we can all enjoy them.

two hours after he was supposed to be here, dh's friend canceled. Rushed to get last minute things finished and now, next show won't be for at least a month.
I think I will start looking for craft shows around here for us to do on our own.6 -
Good Sunday!
I truly felt the love yesterday! Have read along but busy. Kim and Allie Sorry for your losses. Debbie it is hard when someone doesn't follow through with plans.
Friday we got Sirius radio put in work truck so DH is happy. He also really wanted to get me a pair of boots for my birthday. What I want are some lace ups to wear with skinny jeans, leggings, and dresses. Something like these
Someone told me I was too old for that style! Whatever! I still need to find some like those. Did get these Friday night though.
Had a wonderful dinner with DH in spite of friends cancelling last minute. I probably shouldn't have been the driver....not drunk but definitely tipsy. Wine will do that. I wore my new boots with
One of these days I will remember to take pictures! I do still wear panyhose with short dresses in the winter, but put a run in the last pair in my drawer before heading out. Was a little chilly. We will just say that the only goal I met yesterday was water thankfully! I had over 74oz.
Thank you again for the wonderful birthday wishes.
Oh, my mother actually texted me to wish me Happy birthday on my birthday!!!! First time in years! Thank you Ginny for the birthday sunshine
Heading to see Cher the musical tonight with oldest daughter. This one is close to home.
Dresses I wear as often as I can! Jeans for work are not my thing, but hard to load and unload mowers in a dress! The men might like it, their wives not so much!
Have managed to read Bible, clean up spider plant, make bed, help DH hang 2 pictures, fix breakfast, and clean up kitchen. Need to do some work stuffs as I have 2 appointments tomorrow morning plus hair coloring tomorrow night. May try walking outside in a bit. DH has been good leaving me alone this long, should probably give him some attention- lol!
Healing thoughts!
Grateful for you ALL!
Hugs!

The stripes in the lace ups are reflections of parts boxes at work. The problem with these is they are suede. Too much yucky weather here for more suede. I will keep looking.1

Hi all! My name is Kerry and I'm back on MFP again, trying different ways to stay engaged with my health journey this time. I'm 64 and just "retired " from my computer job. I put retired in quotes for 2 reasons: I was laid off, it wasn't voluntary, but I can't bring myself to apply for any new jobs; and I have a farmers market business that now has become the main job, not a side hustle. So lots of changes for me this year. Looking forward to meeting everyone.12

Kim- im so very sorry about Levi.. its just so very hard losing one of our furbabies..
Today I have to hunt the paperwork down for the accountant for Tuesday
Siri has found she loves the chair in the living room where I put a folded blanket ,and she has a lay of the land..
Tracy got rid of most of all the baby stuff that I bought for Miles, porta crib, infant car seat etc... swing
I told her im not in the position to buy it all over again, she will have to do what i did with them but back then it was tag sales and consignment shops.
Today it will be Facebook Marketplace and Once upon a Child which is a consignment shop.as of now ive done 99 % of all the diapers for mr Miles, hopefully by the time this new one is born he will be out of diapers..
She has read that diapers are made with some real nasty stuff ,and that the people making them ie: pampers ,huggies etc have to wear respirators and heavy duty ones as the components in the diaper are cancer causing.😳
So lately Ive been buying disposable diapers made by Honest. It is not made with all the cancer causing stuff in it.
Going to pick up the Alfster in a bit.2 -
Machka-sounds like you need to learn to really relax!
Kim-so sorry for the loss of Levi. We have put down three dogs over the years, and while it was a release for them it was extremely painful for us.
Debbie-given the weather forecast staying in may be a very good idea, but seems like friend could have decided sooner. Seems like he was a bit undependable in the past at shows. Maybe going out on your own is a good idea.
Kylia-nice cow person boots! I think they would go very well with the dress. I like the lace up boots. I think if you like them, you wear them. Some things may be more appropriate for the younger group (can't think of anything right now), but boots? That is just strange. DSW Polaris had several of those styles last time I was there, Fairfield store may still have some (don't know if there is one closer to you).
Haven't gotten back to work stuff yet. Cleaning up around house, started laundry. Went for walk and stopped at Dollar General for a few things. Going to take a load of card board boxes to recycling. I walked by and checked that bins have room so will load up back of car.
Still enjoying the sunshine!

Hi everyone. Time just got away from me. I see there’s lots I need to catch up on
But first about me. Let’s see, did some HIIT Wed. and then took the water aerobics class. Went to ceramics on Tuesday. Made fudge since they were celebrating the birthdays in the month of January. Got my tooth pulled Wed. Not a dentist appt I was looking forward to. Right now I’m on an antibiotic but I can feel that the infection is going down. I’m supposed to go back to him on the 9th just to be sure everything’s fine for when we’re in FL. It’ll heal while I’m there. They did take an impression for the bridge so they can put that in when I get back. The only things I can’t do are drink thru a straw (as that may dislodge the clot) and drink anything hot. Not a problem. Of course, missed bowling on Wed. night. Had ceramics on Thurs since she wasn’t there on Mon. Soup kitchen on Fri and then we prebowled for one of the weeks we’ll be in FL. Lectored yesterday. Trying to get packed for FL. Have been working on this x-stitch for the lady who took care of my father. When I downloaded the pattern, it was in 12 pages! You had to tape the pages together. What a pain. Have to be careful that you didn’t cover some stitches but you also didn’t want to leave the space on the bottom of the page. Made a ham for us to have next week and then when we get back. Right now I have a salmon loaf in the oven. Also made chocolate bran muffins yesterday.
Jess and Colby are coming down to the condo and one day we’re going to go to the Space Center. I dug out my t-shirt from the last space shuttle launch (which was probably about 10 years ago). Unfortunately, the t-shirt is a small (yes, I used to wear them well) but gravity and Mother Nature have NOT been my friend. Oh well, I think I can get by for one day. We’re also going to go to Andretti Thrill Park. We used to go there when the kids were little and drive the goKarts. Jess wants to take Colby there as a surprise.
Did Body for Life for Women DVD and then the Jackie Xtreme Time Saver DVD. Then went for my walk. To WalMart and bought gas.
My girlfriend in Switzerland got my “care” package and liked it
Tracey – I’ve even been using the foam roller on my calve. I think they didn’t mention it because not everyone has one. I did find that when I’m standing at work, I have to be mindful but I can stretch the calve. Also, I found that (this is funny) when I am in church, if I put my foot up on the kneeler, I can drop my calve to stretch it and no one is the wiser! Hope you get off that water restriction fast
Tomorrow is Bryan’s birthday. I am going to send him a short “happy Birthday” email.
All the Christmas decorations are down and put away.
Lanette – a compression fracture is no fun at all. Vince had one many years ago.
Anna – congrats on the loss. Yea for the jeans
You know, I was really surprised that BK didn’t advertise their 1 cent croissant. That is, unless they didn’t take part in it. If they did, I don’t want to hear any more about this “labor” thing. Everyone loves a bargain, and that might have brought in people who normally didn’t come but may decide “hey, this is pretty good” and come back.
Haven’t used my laptop in a while so have it doing all the updates before we go to FL.
Bought Jess and Colby each a set of Corelleware for their birthdays. I don’t think Colby will mind. So they’ll have service for 8
pip – love your bathroom. I’m hoping that we can at least get an estimate of redoing the bathrooms down at the condo.
Betsy – Hope your sister’s cold gets better soon. Glad you made it back safely
Ginny – safe travels to you, too
kylia – never heard of histamine intolernant! Regarding your FIL – I agree. My father, when he was in his 80’s and the doctor kept insisting that he go on dialysis felt “i’ve lived my life. If God wants me, I’m going, dialysis or not.” I think that’s a great attitude. He felt “what are you going to give me? 6 more months of pain from my arthritis?”
Rori and Tina – great picture
I think the antibiotic is somewhat not agreeing totally with me. My stool have been somewhat soft (sorry if TMI). But I know it’ll go away. Last time I was on clydamycin the exact same thing happened and it went away after I stopped so I know it’ll happen this time
Ordered new glasses from Sam’s. Hopefully, they’ll come in before we go to FL
The new thread for February! I forgot that it was a new month! Where DID the time go?
Vince can’t find his Last Space Shuttle t-shirt. Guess that’s what happens when you have a lot of t-shirts. I don’t have many since I’m not a t-shirt person
Vince talked to Ken the other day. Ken was saying that Lynette goes for her last radiation treatment & she wants Ken there when she rings the bell. I always thought that was when you ended chemo and were cancer free. Not ending radiation. Well...whatever
Carol – HUGS
Michelle NV – Glad your grandmother is doing well
Welcome everyone new!
Heather – nice picture
Allie – congrats to Tracy and Kyle. So sorry about your aunt. It took a while for Clyde and Loki to be “tolerating each other”. Yet, by the time Clyde passed, they were the best of buds. Alfi would miss you terribly if he went to live with Tom and Elena. He might even resent you. That’s not even including how heartbroken you would be. He’s doing fine now, I’d leave it. First, try walking Alfi more. Would you maybe be able to take him to Tracy’s? Dogs usually do fantastic with children (sMiles). Can you bring sMiles to your place?
Kim – I’m so so sorry to hear about Levi
Sue WA – WOW! What a tenant! Has she always been this way?
Barbara – hope that shoulder gets better fast. You, too, Lanette
kylia – happy birthday
Annie – I very seldom wear dresses or skirts. I only have two, the rest I donated. For one thing, they were out of style. Not to mention that my body has changed
Lisa – so glad you can get a new tire. What a scary experience!
Phew! Caught up. Apologies to anyone I missed. Know that my best thoughts are with you.
Michele NC4 -
Kim ... so sorry about Levi ... hugs
Allie ... sorry to hear about your Aunt. My advice would be to go on the cruise. I'm surprised Tracy got rid of Mile's baby things already.
Dresses/Skirts ... Episodes of DVT over the years and venus reflux problems have left me with unattractive legs so I gave up dresses/skirts years ago. Our church has become very casual ... so much so that when I wear business type dress slacks, I am almost "overdressed."
Stockings ... I think the short leggings make a lot of sense, but my feet would be complaining in dress shoes without stockings.
Dying Hair ... my hair started turning gray in my 20s and is now completely gray. I don't color. It grows at an astonishing rate and I would constantly be trying to cover roots. Not worth it to me. I tried cutting my hair during Covid lockdowns .... LOL ... I won't be doing that again anytime soon!
I have new neighbors! The chicken/goat/hobby farm family left on January 1st but we didn't see anyone move in for a few days. Then large construction dumpsters showed up along with a large work crew. I watched them fill 2 huge dumpsters! Turns out the new owners have had to gut the entire inside of the house! Farm smells, among other problems, had permeated everything ... The husband said it looked like a petting zoo inside? Yuck. It was an expensive home to have to do this kind of work, but the new owner has a construction business (along with another job) with multiple employees, so he can do the work. Yesterday, I finally met the wife and children ... beautiful young woman and two children ... probably ages 4 and 6. I think they're going to be great neighbors.
Today the sun is shining, but I'm thinking of all of you on the West coast! The weather is sure weird lately. Stay safe.
Beth near Buffalo

Good day to all!
Allie-Sorry for your loss. Your aunt sounded very special.
Kim-sorry to hear about Levi.
Those of you having aches and pains, I send healing vibes!
Speaking of aches and pains, I may actually be getting my chronic feet pain under control. Or maybe my body has just accepted it and I don’t feel it anymore.
Since I’m not cooking elaborately anymore, I’ve started trying new cooking methods. Today was sous vide eggs. Took a while and they came out too runny. Will have to try again. I have mastered sous vide chicken.
Well today is the last day without Niagara Falls from the sky for a week. They are saying hurricane force winds, but we will see. It’s windy now, but not much stronger than normal. I’ll head out for a run before it gets too bad.
Those with the current and forecasted rains, stay safe!
Tina in CA4 -
Allie.
Carefully think about your motivation. Are you trying to create another tie to Tom to keep the relationship going? This is a great opportunity for you to cut it, for your own emotional health. Not to be too blunt, but he has not been a friend to you, and I am highly suspicious of Elena's motivations of kindness. They both must be carrying quite a bit of guilt. You are a kind person, but you need to take care of yourself. Don't create unnecessary entanglements with people who have hurt you so severely.
Just a thought.

Ladies!
I'm running behind. Today is the last sunshiney day for a while, so restocking firewood, getting pruning cuttings cleaned up, whatever else I see. Back in the house for a little bit.
Allie - glad to see Siri and Alfie getting along. They might become good friends yet. I'd vote for walking (the weather might be dicey for a few months yet.) Is Tracy taking a long maternity leave to care for the new arrival?
Betsy - We're having a beautiful day in Washington. Even the cold and snow we get here doesn't last long as compared to Alaska and Indiana. I'm with you. This is home.
Barbara - thanks for the info about the "snick" in your poor shoulder. Super curious to see what the MRI shows. Glad you are doing some exercises to keep that shoulder loosened up.
Debbie - sorry that friend you were attending shows with flaked out but with the weather, might be best to just stick around home base.
Kylia - love those boots! Both pairs.
Hair color - I grayed early and up until I retired 7 years ago, would get foils every few months to darken it up a tad. Then developed an allergy to the hair dye so went au naturel.
Acid reflux - Last night, for the first time ever, I had acid reflux! Made the mistake of eating a little piece of pizza that I wasn't even hungry for before bed. After a couple hours of trying to sleep....urp. Giving my tummy a break today. Some habits I need to break are eating after 4:30 or 5 pm AND drinking black coffee on an empty stomach when I first get up. Will set out a chamomile teabag tonight for my morning beverage.
Saying NO - Spent some time last night "counseling" my friend T. She's just a girl who can't say NO and takes on much more that she has time for and consequently suffers stress migraines a lot. I've been down that road. Combine that with whiplash injuries she suffered in an accident several years ago. She feels guilty if she says no and people don't like it and pressure her, so she's coming by later today I hope (unless her migraine keeps her home!) to work on strategies to carve time for herself. I know it's not easy. It still doesn't feel right to me to just say "No" and not have to justify or explain it to someone sometimes. Getting better tho.
OK need to head back outside.
Reminder for the weekly check-in tomorrow.
Sending hugs all around!
Lanette

Flea- no not trying to stay tied to him..
Honestly.. for the reasons I said ,they have a large fenced yard and Tom dotes on him when he is there, but when I got there today he said when he lets him outside he goes to the side of the porch to look for me. And if he brings up the word Mom ,Alfie runs to the door waiting for me to come in the door lol.
So I don't think it will ever become a thing, but bless them the took care of him for 6 months after my heart surgeries..
Got a card, flowers and a cheesecake for Tracy for her Birthday, but dropped it off today and got to see my little man.. he is such an adorable little guy.4
