WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2024

Heather - That's awesome!
Tracey - I loved Billy Joel so much... He is the soundtrack of my 20s. I didn't realize it had been that long... Loved "Turn the Lights Back On," too. I also realized for the first time how much Bob Dylan I hear in his voice.
It was a busy weekend... If you have me on Facebook, you can see the pictures there, or they're in the spoiler for anyone else who might want to see them:
Took me forever to get those dang directions sorted out. I have never been able to visualize spatial coordinates...
Trying not to get distracted this morning, as I need to leave here by 8 a.m. to go to the primary doctor and have him look at my knees. Nine chances in ten he's going to send me to get X-rays. Afterward, will stop at Walmart Tire Center on the way home. They have me slated at 1 p.m., but fingers crossed they will be able to get me in early to get that new tire on my car. If not, it's no big deal, it's only ten minutes from my house. Will just save me the cost of gas to go home and go back.
First, though, I need to get a pair of yoga pants cut down to make them shorts. Never enjoyed having to wear one of those bϋtt-baring gowns to get my knees looked at. I don't wear regular shorts or skirts, so those aren't an option...
Hope it is or was a good Monday for all.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR

LOVE how you've done your space, Lisa. Looks super efficient and decluttered!
Waiting for your review to appear. Rita 's is up there. THANK YOU.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx1 -
Good morning ladies!
Kylia love your new boots!
Lisa your laundry room looks so bright and functional! And cutting yoga pants is a great idea!
Heather glad your publicity is going so well.
I have a dentist appointment at noon. I'm trying not to be anxious about it.
I'm getting competitive with my Spanish game on Duolingo. I do a lesson a day then on Sunday night I play catch-up and do two hours of lessons so my score stays in the highest league. But if I make five mistakes I have to quit for the day. The material is getting harder. It would make more sense to do more earlier in the week but nope.
I wish they would do more rewards on MFP. I guess they have to be careful not to encourage unsafe weight loss. But still, the program should tell me how many days in a row I've eaten by my plan and how many days I've exercised to my plan. Streaks are motivational.
It's a beautiful sunny day here. Hope our California friends are okay. Have a great day!

My Kidney doc wants to put me on Farxiga. It is so expensive, I’m not going to get it. The cheapest I could find it, with all kinds of discounts, it for 90 days at $200!! I need to ask for other options. I checked for different types this morning, but all were very expensive. What all, if any of you take for you CKD? I’m trying the diet for now.
Today is be nice to your Wether person Day! They do try…. Nutella and chocolate fondue…. Too much sugar but yummy!

Beth - your new neighbors sound wonderful.
Lisa - great improvement in your laundry room, love the changes. Good luck at the doc's. Hope the tire gets replaced quickly and you are safely on the road again. I was surprised to find my old Camry still has a full size spare. Remembering to keep it inflated is the key.
Kylia - glad you enjoyed the Cher musical. Happy to hear you had a great birthday weekend.
Rita - hope there's a less expensive med than Farxiga. Hope the diet works for you.
Tracey - Now I'm going to have to search for highlights of the Grammys. Sounds like some of my favorite performers were on. And I'm going to look for the "Just Dance" videos. Hope your foot lets you enjoy doing them.
Heather - Nice to be getting publicity for your book. Looks like plenty of rain today so I'll have a chance to get back to it today.
I slept over 8 hours last night. Supper done by 4 pm last night and had a swig of a little baking soda in water before I went to bed, so slept without any tummy troubles. Skipped coffee this morning, smaller breakfast. Lagging without my caffeine hit but doing OK and still plan to run to the groceries this morning.
Update - just ate a bit and made myself 2 cups of coffee in the coffeemaker. Watered down well with milk so getting my fix and my tummy seems Ok with it. Coffee has a lot of fiber and is healthy so I'm not giving it up.
Have a good week!

Sue--Your renter sounds terrible. Hope you can get her to move very soon.
Allie--Sorry to hear of your Aunt's passing. Sounds like she has a nice family.
Lisa--The pothole sounds scary. I am glad you were close to Walmart and got the spare put on. Your laundry rooms sounds really nice. Thanks for sharing the pictures, sure looks nice.
Machka--I bet it is hard to relax after all the deadlines you have had for months, years. I hope you take sometime and just do nothing.
Kylia--Happy Birthday. Sounds like you had a nice evening. I think you should get the boots you want. I guess I buy and wear what makes me feel good. Age is just a number.
Kim--So sorry to hear about Levi.
Well the weekend flew by again. We had a nice evening out with our motorcycle group. There was 17 of us so nice to just fellowship. Sunday was church and afternoon went to DGS 5th birthday party. It was at the bowling alley and so much noise and kids running all over. Once they sang Happy Birthday and opened gifts we left.

Stormed like crazy again last night- haven't been in the back yard to see what, if any, damage we had. Yesterday between storms we had to fix the plastic on the catio and put tarps back (one full of water went right in my shoes, oh well) but that was really the only things. There will be cleanup on the deck from the neighbors juniper but as of yesterday, only a few smaller limbs came down up in my garden. I did see that there are a few of my tomato plants that are partially still green so when these storms stop, I am going to take cuttings and see if I can get some starts off of them in my new little starter in the kitchen window.
Asthma is still kicking my butt, more yesterday evening and early this morning-woke up at 4am coughing and wheezing so did a nebulizer treatment-glad dh is a sound sleeper and didn't disturb him. Pulled out another inhaler to keep on my side of the bed. I know it will get better when it warms up- Supposed to stop raining on Thursday and get a whole week, almost of dry weather.
Dh wants to go to Black Friday(like Falling Prices) when he gets done with his mom.
After that, I want to clean up the living room and find a place for all the stuff we had ready for the show that didn't happen yesterday. We have a good inventory for the next show but will continue making new things. He got yet another 3D printer last night- felt so sorry for the FedEx guy. In the middle of the storm at night he had to carry this huge heavy box to the porch. Then just a few minutes later he(or another FedEx guy )came with a heavy box from Chewy. Both could have waited until this morning when it was daylight and the wind advisory had been lifted.
Class tonight- will do a breathing treatment an hour before I go.
Here is one of the new songs we are doing with close to this routine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v58GhDgKb2M
got this song stuck in my head for the past few days.

edit- Back yard looks good- was expecting a lot worse after the way the winds were going last night. Lost power for a few minutes last night. Mom was without power for at least a few hours. Was still out when I talked to her last night. Thankfully for her, she has a wood fireplace and gas stove(we are all electric here so no heat or cooking of any kind for us)4 -
Today’s gratitude: daily improvements in wii balance games and PT (each from 5 to 10 mins) so far this month, despite yesterday’s low step count.
Yesterday’s: fresh, homegrown, organic watercress from J & J.
Have two dresses I’ve kept for funerals, one winter, one summery. My weekday uniform is jeans, turtleneck, compression socks and a plaid hoodie, wear slacks, blouse and blazer to church. Footwear varies from comfy yoga sandals, hiking boots, dancing shoes, garden crocs to church flats.
Does anyone know how to soften aged wellingtons that are cracking?
Annie ((hugs)) This month is a do-over for me too. Starting small, building back up in tiny increments. We can do this!
Ginny OUCH! Your “first” herniated cervical disc? Our Dyson sits charging on the dryer, its tubes and brushes in a box in the coat closet. Just as Joe wouldn’t install a laundry room shelf for me, neither would he put holes in the wall for a Dyson stand. Just as well, would have been awkward to get in and out…
Machka after all you’ve been through it’s understandable to feel a little lost with no immediate deadlines staring you in the face. Can you relax and enjoy it? Only doing what you want to not what you have to? ((hugs))
Kim ((hugs)) crying with you ((hugs))
Debbie saw tornado warning for the southernd California coast and was shocked. Your area too? SMH.
Rita hope that wind powered saucer brings you over here!
Kylia cute boots and darling birthday dinner outfit

Rita. We're not doing anything about my ckd. I'm trying not to let it bother me, but I had to bring up the diet. All he says is drink more water. I am doing my best to eat the DASH diet. Everyone probably should. So we are eating a lot more veggies, and I am avoiding beef. But not eliminating it entirely. The nephrologist has released me unless my GFR goes lower. It bounces around in the low 40s, with occasional dips into the high 30s. He says that's plenty of functionality. I don't know if he says that because of my mbc and I'm probably not going to die of kidney disease. I am wondering how his treatment of me compares to the treatment of others.

MFP Weekly Check-in February 5, 2024
Evie in BC - Very happy to report a .6 loss. The sun is shining so beautifully this morning I’m going to skip the gym and go for a walk instead! (Reported Sunday morning )
Kylia in Ohio - This past week we had two birthdays. I weighed Saturday just in case of retaining water from dinner out on Saturday. reweighed this morning and stats remained the same! Yay! Drinking water works. I lost .9 pounds and .4 fat. I am happy to see small steps working. Small steps equal change. Have an awesome week!
Rita in Roswell, NM - Up .5 pounds today, but I know why. I was a bit down and tried to eat my way up with donuts last week. Actually, made things worse. Back to it today!!
Lanette in SW WA State – weight holding steady in goal range. Minor setback with knee pain after doing squats with weights, so have discontinued those. Will stick to chair sit-to-stands. But luckily knees didn’t impact my walking. Still averaging over 10,000 steps per day, carrying various weights, 40 minutes per day in 10-minute increments.

Debbie - love that Ragamuffin Girl video.
Annie - so great that you are back on your bike again. Very happy to hear things have settled down since your mom's passing, you and your dad getting back into routines.
I just listened to "Fast Car" performed by Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs on the Grammys. I always loved that song. She's still got it, and Luke gets it. Fabulous duo. Brought back memories of when it came out in 1988. I was in love and life was magical.

While I liked the tune of Fast Car, and have it in my collection, I always found it utterly depressing.
When I became familiar with the song my ex and I were going through the poorest time of our lives, in a recession, struggling to find work, paying our bills by doing the "one bill per month" method ... just enough so we didn't get into too much trouble, and going hungry so that we could pay part of a bill or two.
We did that for 2 years, and I developed a food hoarding thing. I think that's the reason why I have expired food in my cupboards. It's all just in case.
But the song was one of the things that encouraged me to keep pushing ... I didn't want to end up with a life like that.

Today’s gratitude: Discover card credit line. Replacing the water pump on Joe’s Jeep, estimated at $320, ended up costing $650.
Evelyn walking over an hour on sunny Vancouver Island? Well done!
Carol hope you get some help for your cold/sinus infection. ((hugs))
Joy thank you for going to the trouble to be certified organic. Where would we be without our organic farmers?
Sue what a mess. Are you sure she’ll leave in March?
Tracey Praying that my wii and balance board don’t break. Started at 2 mins and added 1 min a day so now ’m up to 10 mins on it. Will hold there while I build PT time back up to 30 mins. Had the Just Dance game and mat but donated it. Michaela is inspiring but baby steps ‘til your foot heals? Wow, she had money left? Grandma magic! Dang, meant to record the Grammys but forgot. Will see if I can stream…
Heather Brava for dumping the conditioners. I’ve been saying “Just do it now” to myself when I see something that needs a quick clean or tidy. Nothing that will take more than a minute or two. Lisa (and very jealous of) your laundry room reno. Fingers X’d all goes well at the MD.

Lanette so glad your tummy is better. “lots of fiber” in coffee? Hmm. . . Brava for your farmer walking 4 times daily!

I'm probably at Stage 2
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/172179#stages
Stage 2
If a person has stage 2 CKD, their GFR is 60–89 ml/min per 1.73 m2. A GFR in this range usually means that a person’s kidneys are working well. However, this GFR indicates that a person with stage 2 CKD has additional signs of kidney damage. These signs can include physical damage to the kidney or protein in a person’s urine.
https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/chronic-kidney-disease#treated
Lifestyle measures
Chronic kidney disease will gradually get worse, but there is plenty you can do to slow the progression and improve your quality of life.
Eating a healthy diet is important.- Eat a variety of whole fresh seasonal foods.
- Limit processed foods and sugar.
- Limit salt to less than 5g a day (too much salt can increase blood pressure).
- Limit your intake of saturated and trans fats.
- In the later stages of chronic kidney disease, you may need to follow specific instructions from your doctor on what you can eat or drink.
You should also be physically active on most days of the week.- Aim for 150 to 300 minutes of moderate physical exercise or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous physical activity each week.
- Make sure you do some muscle strengthening exercises.
Other changes you should make include:- stop smoking
- limit alcohol to less than 2 standard drinks a day
- maintain a healthy weight — if you have chronic kidney disease, you should ideally have a BMI (body mass index) of 25 or less

"It took me a long time to appreciate what she gave me. Sometimes it is so much part of who you are, you can't see it yourself."
Sadly, I know I have a lot of my mom in me. My hands look like hers. I've caught some of my dirty looks in a mirror and was shocked at what I saw. Other than physical features, though, we a very different. I'm glad for that. I work hard to be a nice person. It doesn't just come to me. I have been told my comments are insensitive, abrasive, and harsh. So, I work on it. I just naturally come off a little wicked sometime. That's one reason I like to write so much. When I write, I can word things the way I want without coming off wrong.
One good thing I can say I got from my mom is how to instill confidence that we; my family, kids, or whomever I'm dealing with, are going to get through a tough time. I remember when I was young and something would go wrong, she would tell us kids that everything was going to be fine and that we would deal with it. Since I trusted her then, it was the best thing I could hear. We would all calm down and do our part, whether it was make cheap meals or deal with the death of a loved one knowing that we would be okay. I do that for my kids, and I'm glad I know how.
@dlfk202000
What kind of stuff do you take to your shows? Do you sell? Have you posted pictures? I'm interested to see.
@kevrit
Since February 4th was Homemade Soup Day, maybe we could all make a homemade soup this week and put a picture of it up here or even just talk about it. Just an idea.
@pipcd34
Do you do the MS run for yourself or a family member? MS is just debilitating stay well and good luck on your run. Are going to do something like a GoFundMe?
@SophieRosieMom
I didn't know fast car came out in 1988; that's the year I graduates HS. I guess I really am in my 50s.
@Machka9 and @OregonMother
I'm so sorry to hear you have CKD. Kidney disease is a rough illness with which to deal. Bless you and my thoughts are with you both.
I vigorously walked for 20 minutes today back and forth through the casino. I was in a rush to get back to my game. Now this isn't a small, tiny casino by any means. It's Green Valley Ranch (a station casino) here in Henderson. In fact, I would say it's one of the few casinos around here that is built like a strip mall, lol. It has indoors and outdoors all with convenience lining the sides of the center aisle. It's overwhelming, and I just wanted to get a coffee.
I don't know how you all are doing it. I can't seem to get my husband to declutter anything. He cleans an area, throws away a few things, and makes a new pile. Argh. I try to throw stuff away, and pulls it out saying he's going to take it to Goodwill but never does. I have this new book called Nobody Wants Your S-h*t the art of decluttering. I haven't started reading it yet, but I'm a little worried that if I do, I will get all Gung-ho and he will still be in his Goodwill stage. He won't even let me hold a yard sale.
Soup anyone? (see kevrit above)

Hi all,
thanks for the bumps Kylie and Snowflake.
I'm still slogging along on the meal replacement section of my program. It is working, so I shouldn't be so grumpy, but there are days I really want to chuck it. I do get that the part of the program that is post meal replacement is a lot longer and about helping rebuild my meal habits and patterns so I don't yo-yo. I know the information in a theoretical way but adopting the practices to do it are my trouble spot.
I started putting little cards on my desk, by my coffee maker and by the treadmill to just remind me why I'm doing all this work.
Heather in the UK...I feel you about the Amazon pages. I got through basics but don't have the energy to try and fine tune anything further. I was sad when Amazon picked up Good Reads. I liked having a couple of places with different people sending/collecting reviews. Sigh. I've been slow on my next book. It is in a draft, but not ready for prime time. That was a goal for next year...get it to the copy editor.
The west coast of the US is drenched, but here in the midwest we are getting warm for February weather.
The sun might come out. That makes a big difference. Endless gray is hard in the winter.
Want to offer cheers to my fellow folks striving to be healthier. You're doing good for yourself and the ones you love.
