SophieRosieMom wrote: »Vicki - you sure have had a wild couple of days. Hope the next new hire works out - you are past due. Sorry about the tax payment - I ended up really raising my own withholding too to cover my DH's which was always too low it seems.
Joy - very exciting about your granddaughter! Wishing her skating group success - go for the gold! Thanks for being organic, by the way, and plowing through the paperwork for it.
Heather - sounds like a late night at the Parent's Evening. Very cute little dress, can't wait to see a photo of Bea modeling it.
Tina - hope you don't float away. Crazy weather indeed!
Michele - I think that's the going rate for taking down "danger trees". I wonder if he'll climb and take it down limb by limb? What kind of tree is it again?
Debbie - beautiful assortment of toys, you folks will be well stocked for the next show. What good luck finding that $100 bill.
Barbara - Heather's right, I saw the coffee/fiber connection on a ZOE video with Tim Spector. I think 1 gm fiber per cup. Plus all those polyphenols - it's a health food.
Pip- love seeing those old photos of you and Kirby and the MS ride when you'd go through Deception Pass. Keep us posted!
Rori - good luck on the mattress search. I have 2 toppers on a Saatva we bought years ago, and have been able to keep it usable. Good luck with your search.
Another busy day yesterday. Finished taxes, got them e-filed. Getting a small refund. Whew. Made an appointment with my podiatrist about my crookedy once-broken pinky toe and it's out-of-alignment sister toes. March 4th.
Had the girls out for a little walk in the yard yesterday. Gladys ate a huge slug and Thelma gobbled down a fat crane fly larva. Fairy found some nightcrawlers. Plus they ate their share of green grass and emerging dandelions. Good girls.
Make it a fabulous day!

Thx. When we went up to Washington to do the ride in 2020, we took our trailer and yogi. Kirby volunteered so he could watch yogi and I rode the 69 miles for the first time by myself. It was a full circle moment, since we started this with me volunteering and him riding.5 -
On CKD my ultrasound says “CONCLUSION: Normal ultrasound of the kidneys and urinary bladder.” With a whole bunch of measurements above that with no explanations. Also says no “hydronephrosis” and “No solid suspicious mass”. The bloodwork before I went to Nephrologist had a GFR of 46. After I looked up the Kidney Diet, it is up to 64! Simply by doing a diet. Pretty much eliminated, Potassium, salt, Phosphorus, (lots of label reading), and lowering my protien intake. No more Keto!! My sodium is pretty low though, but that wasn’t mentioned by anyone. It is at 133 mmol/L. Normal is 136-145. So for me, the diet will work. So here I go again! I do need to lose about 15 pounds to get down to a healthy weight, so that is my current goal. Lost 6 pounds since I found out about the CKD so headed the right way!

Here is where you can read about “Metabolic Acidosis” which includes High PH and low salt in my bloodwork, a form of CKD:
https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/facts-about-metabolic-acidosis-and-chronic-kidney-disease
Whole wheat vs White The low phosphorus diet is why I am supposed to not eat whole wheat, along with my Colitis, which doesn’t like high fiber, this makes white preferred over whole wheat for me. Remember, this is for my diagnosis of Metabolic Acidosis See the link above for more information.

Hi Gals,
Lanette , Margaret, Annie – please get titles (car/house/etc.) in the name of living people. My grandma didn’t do it – she had inherited some real property and left it in the deceased person’s name, and some in her first husbands name and then when she died it was a nightmare! Ordering copies of death certificates from years before, getting copies of old wills to prove ownership…. About 18 months of paperwork before we could sell the house she was living in. As a gift to your children do the paperwork.
Tracey – I total agree about the rock…. Right now it seems to be growing in my pocket, but I know time will wear it down and smooth the edges, and help me build up some calluses so it doesn’t hurt so much. Hip Hip Hooray for DH and the pay raise
Debbie – Great find!!!! The tacos look great.
Rita – I am so impressed with you taking on changing your diet multiple times to find the best choice for your body. I think your attitude is so much healthier than just taking a med for what ever ails you, but more work and commitment.
Love ya all,
Kim in N. California

Thank you Kim I am tired of taking pills! I try the diet change first always. A way to let my body self-heal. Besides, the pills I would have to take for the kidneys would cost me $200 a month and I can’t afford that, so diet it has to be! LOL
I found that only 15% of CKD patients have what I have. Good to be in the minority for a change?? LOL Here is more on the low salt issue. I can’t find the correct way to treat that myself, so need to rely on doc for that issue. Plus, this is ENOUGH about CKD and me!! https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/hyponatremia

Ive known ive had PkD poly cystic kidney disease, since I was 36 yrs old ( thanks mom) so ive seen a nephrologist since then im stage high 4 since then ,i haven't taken anything other than tylenol except for my surgeries since then.. Im.not good with diet and I also have hyperparathyroidism,im just a hot mess between all that, the heart issues, thyroid issues and the rheumatologist / lupus stuff yikes
But after being rolled into a operating room where they open you up and basically stop your heart not once but twice, and live to tell the story..I am beyond blessed for sure and to have 2 .5 grandkids is just icingnon the cake.
Got a call from the transplant team pharmacy..I had hepatitis vaccine in the 90s and i guess i thought it was a one time thing, but they want me to get the trio of shots again 🙄4 -
Regarding ownership, titles, deeds, etc., Corey and I put the house and bank accounts in a trust. Because the house is in the trust, the trustees (Corey and I) have full ability to do whatever is necessary with it, and the surviving spouse will not have to go through probate at all. Our daughter will become a trustee in event of both our deaths, because we know she will deal quite scrupulously with our wishes that proceeds from the estate be split between her and her brother. Nothing we own will have to go through probate.
In the US, you can (and we do) have vehicle titles as "or," as in "Lisa or Corey" in the ownership line, meaning either of us can dispose of the car. Allows the survivor to sell the vehicle as necessary.
I was actually a little surprised that it only cost $1,500 for the lawyer to deal with the entire will, trusts, POAs and Living Wills for us both, including dealing with the courthouse to get the house and land deed transferred into the trust. I started ooching money out of the budget a few months ahead of time, and it was more quick and easy than ever thought it could be.So glad I found this post! I'm 55 and currently 272#, nearly my all-time high weight, and I hate it. I've been back to logging and making a real effort, hoping to avoid becoming diabetic. My family is discussing a trip to Orlando next year (summer '25) and I want to sit comfortably on the airplane and in the amusement park rides. I would definitely welcome more accountability partners, but I do limit my friends on the app to to other women.
Welcome - glad you're here! Let us know what you'd like us to call you, and about where you are so we can get to know you a little... hang in there, glad you're back to logging, and jump into any conversation where you're conversation.
Off to the races - I leave in an hour to be punctured!
Love y'all, ^.^

Lanette, checking is a good idea. We all lose some kidney function as we age. And yes, creatinine and GFR are key indicators. And protein in the urine.

Tina, I have been thinking about what you said about less. One of my happiness commandments is to Ask always, how could my life be better with less. Because of that I was able to choose enough as my word for the year. Right now I might not need less but I certainly don't need more of anything.

Lisa, are there any rules for setting up a trust in the states regarding disposition? In Canada, I think the trust has to be dissolved after 21 years from the time it was formed. I'm going to discuss this further this fall when we go to our lawyer to update our wills. Not sure if a trust would be a good option for us but want to look into it. We also have to consider capital gains. Right now we each have a tax exemption of $1 million (it used to be $500,000). Lots to consider. Right now all our property is jointly owned and we are each co-owners on all vehicles.
Tracey, good new regarding Rodger's work. I'm sure he is pleased.
Spent a couple of hours this morning on my dreaded organic paperwork. Making headway slowly.

Debbie Have you tried calling your mom’s landline? Sometimes phone/copper power comes on at central before house power in neighborhoods. Had to google “percussion frogs” Do yours sound like this?

2024: Strengthen: body, mind, heart-connections.
Her landline has been acting up off and on since the fires a few years ago- it was out for months at that time and has had them come work on it so many times since then- even got the guy's cell number to go straight to him and not through the company. When it rains, it always acts up and that is even when they do have power.
She did send a quick text this morning- just said phones are down and that was it
yes, our frogs do sound like that. I got one years ago when we went down to Tijuana. A friend mentioned us making some after I showed him the frogs and toads we made. They are a bit of a pain in the butt to clean up but worth the work when they are done.

Woke up to more rain this morning- should be the last day of the storm system, with a break for a few days or a week before the next one.
Plan on staying home until class tonight.
Will walk the wetlands the next two days- Someone posted they saw(and posted a picture) of a bald eagle out there. I have never seen one in the wild so really hoping to see one.

Debbie If you don’t mind traveling for your shows, if you have a camper, you could come here for the Alien Festival the 4th of July Weekend (ufofestival.com) They haven’t posted the dates yet, but should be July 4-7 or the weekend before in June 28-30. With the type of items you make, you would sell a ton of them there! It’s hot but we are alway full up for that weekend, both campground and local hotels. It would be both fun and would most likely pay for the whole trip with the sales. I know someone who gets a booth with homemade ‘things’, (not the nicest booth or items and high priced) who sells out each year. Your creatures would be a great hit! PM me for more info.
RVRita in Bottomless Lakes State Park
It would be awesome to meet you and anyone else on this thread that would like to come! We could have our own Alien Fest at the park! LOL
Seems like it worked write on phone. Guess just needed to update. 🙄
sounds fun but, too far to travel, don't have a camper(dh is NOT a camper of any kind) plus the heat is not a friend of this type of PLA plastic-it would warp, and not in a good way.3 -

I woke up to a big chill. My dad went to talk to a neighbor and left the front door wide open. I love my father, but he is the worst roommate!
Nothing on the calendar today, so I ought to keep working on these credit cards. And exercise. I thought about trying to match your stair climbing, Machka, but I would hurt my knee. I'm better off with Lisa, ten minutes on a good day, for now.
Maybe I shouldn't sit with my knee folded under me!
I made chili last night, is that like soup?
Brown one pound lean hamburger with one large chopped onion. Add one can " chili ready" diced tomato, one tiny can of tomato sauce with the oregano in it, and two cans of kidney beans. Simmer for maybe an hour.
A very easy recipe for a tasty meal.
My doctor talked about my kidneys but I don't remember what she said, other than no more ibuprofen. I wonder if I should stop the plant protein that I add to my oatmeal, but I'm resisting. It is filling.
Well hope you all can dry out a bit! Have a great day,
Annie in Delaware
I think they advise limiting red meat but I think plant protein might be OK.
I would be very tempted to install a motion activated voice recorder at the door that says "shut the door " when someone goes out.
And a security camera at the door.

Barbara: It’s not a class. We all do our own choice of craft. I’m working on a crochet gilet design of my own at the moment. I also have several embroidery projects, and a patchwork project on the go at the moment.
🤗🤗🤗 and 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 for those who need them.

We have a pair at one of the lakes we hike. We also have a pair on another trail we hike. We don't often see them, but we do see them from time to time.

Kim I would add that you have user names and passwords for your loved ones. I have these which will help. Still it will be a long process. I hope to go to DMV either next week or the week after. Friday will get an oil change and new battery for his car, so it will be ready to sell when I get the title changed.

I thought I was going to get to see a bunch years ago when I stayed with my cousin who lived at that time on a little island off of Juneau,AK at what they called the dump. Drove up and saw nothing.
I was so looking forward to seeing all the wild life you see on the National Geographic Channel when I was flying over to see him-I was in the co-pilots' seat of one of the small mail float planes- mid Feb. Lots of snow but not one animal.2 -

I’m having a hard time following the conversation here. It’s just one big thread? And how do you/we reply to previous people?
It is one big long thread, but restarted each month. It's been described as a cafe', with lots of hubbub, where you can move from one table to another.
It's one of the reasons we ask people for a name to refer to them, and a place in case we need to differentiate, as for instance, we have a Michelle in NV and a Michele in NC. A few of us use the usernames, but the rest use personal names, and add an answer or just a comment on their original post. You can also do as I've done above and use the "quote," function under their post. That will move their entire post down to the comment box and put it in a gray box. As long as you type your answer after the [ /quote] code ending, your answer will follow the gray quote box as mine does here.
That's as complicated as it gets - we start clean again each month, and if you use the initial link for this comment thread, (https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10908717/women-ages-50-for-february-2024#latest) you will be placed back into the thread where you last left it.
Hope to see more of you!
Regards,
Lisa in Arkansas
Edit to add: Do NOT feel you have to reply or comment to everyone! You can drive yourself crazy that way. Just chime in where you feel comfortable or have something to add, or ask questions yourself.
