Proud as can be. The night before he was in tears and didn't want to compete. Tuesday on the way to practice he said he wants to do all the tournaments lol.

I've been MIA for a bit. My youngest son (in the white gi; 6yrs old) just did his first brazilian jiu jitsu tournament. Of course I'm way proud of him and wanted to share his 1st match, which was a win for him. He went on to take bronze in his division. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm92Jg9-IBA

@kellypence thank you! I'm hoping I can convince myself to rest a few days to heal up ;)

@bwmalone i train under chris lopez. he holds several black belts in different styles.
-
@arianera thank you

@bwmalone my instructor is originally from Tucson and still has friends there that still teach. Small world.

With the adrenaline going I didn't feel it until after the end of both matches. Sunday however it was swollen and sore and is still sore today. I have a few months to heal and get back into shape for the next one. Usually sometime in June or July would be the next tournament locally here in Phoenix.

I took second. There were only 3 total in my division. I fought the loser of the first match then fought the winner for gold.

So I decided to compete. I taped my toe and gave my all. First match I was down by 2 points but was able to escape a back take and pass guard for 3 points in the last 30 seconds. Second match was a draw as I played my guard but end up losing it with 4 seconds left and lost. Well I didn't lose I ran out of time

So tournament is Saturday and was already battling a calf injury & cutting weight. Got to my goal weight but now injured my toe. Thought it was broken but after xray only sprain no fractures. Now I'm torn if I keep my weight on point and compete or order a pizza and sit it out.

Hey there another jiu jitsu/ jujitsu practitioner! Welcome and happy training. I'm Ray and I am a bjj blue belt and have done a few miyama jujitsu lessons as well.

Well my weight is slowly dropping. Down 16lbs so far. Still have 3-4 lbs to go by Wednesday. Competing the 21st but also injured my calf working takedowns 2 days ago. Man getting older and competing is not easy. Brazilian jiu jitsu is just so addicting that I have a hard time not training even while hurt. Oh well time to…

WERD!

body fat % perhaps. @nxd10 has a good point as well. Recalcuating every so often when you've dropped 5-10lbs ?
-
was the gain muscle perhaps? true gain?

Brazilian jiu jitsu, Judo, Kickboxing/MMA, kettlebells, jump rope are my norms.

@kellypence that sounds really cool. Do you find that you have less stress when you are up to test since you've watched the kids prior? @arianera I messed myself up by not taking my diet the slow and steady route a month or two out. Now it's crunch time and I'm hungry lol. @bwmalone heavyweight sure is rough. I'm 5'5 so…

The next two weeks are going to be miserable. No carbs to cut 10 lbs ...ugh I should not have taken the holidays off. Need to make weight for a tournament or move up to heavy weight, which I really don't want to do.

@heronh that is the way my wife feels when sparring (kickboxing or brazilian jiu jitsu) against men. She's very competative and wants to push her limits to the edge. As a male that trains with women I personally use sparring sessions to work on things I don't normally work with male training partners. Sometimes that means…

I train judo, kickboxing, and brazilian jiu jitsu. Getting prepared for bjj competition in Feb so training has turned up a bit. was rolling (grappling) with my instructor and felt really good. I was able to keep him away and my open guard was feeling great......until the moment he switched gears and I was just a rag doll…

What exactly are you working ? Sounds like your going heavy on lower body work.

I know it's all ladies so far in here. Going against the grain and joining in. 5'4 265 was my starting point in 2009. Currently around 185-190 as low as 175lbs. Took about 3 years total to get down. It's a daily struggle to maintain my current weight

Just dropped a healthy duece at work after the restrooms were cleaned. Benefit of working night shift.

I'd just wait until you have full control over what you eat without worry.

Jiu jitsu, judo, kickboxing. Kettlebells and dumbbells as well.

I have heard this many times. First time was in high school by my biology teacher. He was a paramedic and high level college wrestler. Also recently from a friend and jiu jitsu partner who also is a paramedic / firefighter. He also echoed the same theory that there are so many beats. Either way the heart is a muscle and…

Strength train to try and build lean muscle to tone your physique. 1500 calories isn't a huge amount of calories.
