  • You should do it! It is awesome to be an instructor, and once you have a class you are even MORE obligated to never miss a class. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
  • Lexy, I could totally hear that ZUUUUUUUMMMBA!! in my head! For any instructors who manage to find this thread (DAWN!) I would love for you to come help me start a Zumba instructor group here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/164036-calling-all-zumba-instructors
  • loving all these responses! I absolutely LOVE onions. I eat them every day. Dawn, you are more than welcome here. The only requirement is that you have a 'thing' for Zumba!
  • Hey friends, it's February! Come join me on the new thread for some fun and motivation! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/165548-the-zumba-crew-february
  • Oh my goodness Carrie, that is SO awesome! Which movie? You are the most famous person I know! Asmaa - you are my hero for raising five kids (maybe more!) twins is enough for me! Natvee - I am so glad you survived that crash. I have been in a flipped car before, and you should be glad that you do not remember it!
  • New Thread Time! Come join me! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/165417-fit-by-summer-february
  • I'd really love to try zumba for wii, but we don't have a video game system :( I bet it is really hard at first having no one to tell you what is coming next....but then after you know the routines and what is coming up that it is a blast! I wish I could try it!
  • The one that I use is called the Pulsewear duo. It is cheaper than the polars (about 60 bux) and works just as well, though it does take some reading to set up. Make sure to get one with a chest strap, and keep in mind that if you are in a class with a lot of others who wear chest straps, it might be worth to get the…
  • good thinking. It's frustrating that it can be so hard to log, but it does vary so widely! If I am having a puny day and do all the moves just 'so so' then my HRM only makes it to 400! But now that I am an instructor and doing all of the moves over the top every time, I regularly get to 900!! So the key is to do everything…
  • it will if you stick with it! Welcome and good luck!

  • Bumping the Zumba crew for any newcomers. Just to let you all know, I will be starting a new thread tonight, and posting it here when I do so that everyone can stay caught up with the Zumba crew!
  • you should come on over and join the ZUmba crew! You will love it. Plus, we answer lots of questions like yours. Unfortunately it is impossible to tell how many calories you burn during Zumba unless you have a heart rate monitor. It can be as little as 300 or as many as 1000, depending on how 'hard' you do it..make sense?
  • ha, beahawk and I responded at the exact same time with the exact same answer. LOL
  • Get the chest strap kind!! The main difference between the two types is that the chest strap kind monitors your heart rate the entire time you are working out, whereas the wrist only kind usually requires you to stop and take your pulse reading (or do it while you are working out) regularly for it to figure your calories.…
  • yay Lexy! I am glad to have another instructor on this thread. I know there are more out there, so I hope they will join in too! I would love to get some more certifications soon!
  • So my class tonight was great, but my CD crapped out on me after the 8th song! I was so dissapointed! We ended up doing a couple of songs twice and then cooling down to the wrong song too! It was frustrating, but we still got our Zumba in! As for your question about favorite songs earlier in the thread hsinster, I really…
  • I am so glad to hear this! Getting a HRM really helped to motivate me too because I was actually burning way more than I thought!
  • Come on into the group. We are just here to check in with people that have the same goals for motivation and support. Everyone, make note that I will be starting a new thread which I will link to this one on Tuesday at the start of February. Good luck!
  • I try to be silly with my Zumba class. Some of the moves do make you feel silly and awkward at first, so it's best just to dive right in and get used to your body! Get creative as you learn the moves, but most importantly, move your body! All that really counts is that your body is moving so that your heart rate goes up. I…
  • yup - and there is a reason that calories burned during Zumba is kind of vague, because everyone is so different! You have probably heard talk of HRMs, which are just heart rate monitors that take your age, weight and heart rate into account to determine how many calories you burn while sweating your butt off at Zumba. For…
  • Well, patience is key. But to be honest with you, trying out an actual class might help because having an instructor to break down the move for you might be all you need. I understand that classes aren't available to everyone, so my best advice would be to keep practicing. It takes several tries to get most of the steps…
  • Don't worry if you can't get the moves right away, it takes some practice. The key is to just move your body with the music so that your heart gets pumpin. The moves will come with practice and so does the fun!
  • Zumba is amazing! If you stick with it, you WILL do it! Come and join the zumba crew for some more support - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/155314-the-zumba-crew-january
  • Just bumping for my Zumba Peeps - it is almost February so I will start a new thread soon! I had a great class today, we had several new gals and it really got my day started right. I am also looking forward to class tomorrow at a newer (to me) facility which is larger and gives me a whole new set of Zumbees to work with!
  • bumping again. I know you are out there.
  • I finally broke down and got a digital scale to go by too. It is just so much easier to keep specific track that way. I always weight in at my emptiest - in the morning, after the bathroom but before breakfast. I always go by the specific reading to judge my weight loss. Lacy, we have the exact same goals, I'm gonna friend…
  • bump for the evening crowd
  • bump, I know you're out there even if you are online right now!
  • Wow, Viv. You have heard some doozies. UNREAL!
  • I am horrible at drinking water during the day too...I will join you!
