Before I started counting calories, it was a very slow process. I was active, I ate better, but I still consumed too much. I lost like 20 pounds over a couple years. But, I was happy I was moving in the right direction, even if I had a setback now and then. Then, I started MFP. If you count calories, if you do it every…

There is some research that shows that weight training subjects increased their average daily metabolic rate. One study showed an increase in metabolic rate of 9.5% in 18 weeks. http://jap.physiology.org/content/82/1/298.full#sec-12 One theory is that when you strength train, your body burns calories three times: 1) during…

^This. You really have to have something special for me to get interested in piling on calories with sweets.

"I also think that food addiction exists in the context of people eating as behavioral response to cope with issues going on in their lives ..." I think that's pretty much addictive behavior in general.

Good thing I don't have to choose!

I do cardio, strength training and some yoga for stretching. Do a combination of different stuff. Do them more often, and you burn more calories. The key is to stay active. For me, that means doing different things. Variety keeps my workouts more interesting, which keeps me going. I've lost more weight more quickly in the…

Thanks for sharing! It's great that you feel so much better and are so much healthier these days!

Just a thought: When you're studying, take a break here and there to do an exercise or just walk for a while. That could clear your head, relieve some stress and help with studying.

What struck me is that she was looking for caring advice, not people jumping to conclusions as to what she was saying to her daughter. Lots of projection going on in this thread, like in many threads on MFP.

Portion control was my main challenge when I decided to slim down. At the beginning, I just figured I'd eat slower. You know, let the stomach catch up with my eyes. It helped. But, I would find out later that the fish and orzo meal I liked at Macaroni Grill was like 1,500 calories. It came with a side of veggies. It was…

You know, I feel better at age 43 than I did at age 33 ... until that creepy comment. :grumble:

Wow. That's the way to do it. One step at a time. Embrace the journey. And, you look fantastic! I'm getting close to my "goal weight" ... and this type of success story reminds me not to focus on that as much as the life changes I've made, and if I keep them up what this will mean to me for the rest of my life.

Now that the damage is done, try to get in a workout. This evening, if there's pizza, have just one piece of pizza, or maybe two, and add something healthy with your dinner.

It's 10 o'clock. Do you know where your food is?

I don't use them often ... but when I do, I really work the arms AND legs both. I get a good workout. It may just depend on the type of machine and its quality (just like anything else).

Maybe you aren't eating enough. 1,300 is very low. Are you the least bit active?

I lost all my weight without a HRM. It would be nice, but if you estimate on the low end for calories burned, like I have, you can do it. As for your meals, that sounds like a lot of hard work. Some people make meals on the weekend that they can heat up during the week. If you want variety, and nobody else in your…

I've lost 44 pounds so far ... and I never thought about losing 44 pounds. For me, it was about gradual weight loss. I might lose 1 pound in a week, or two weeks. And, it made me happy, because I was headed in the right direction. So, maybe focus on losing 10 pounds in 2 months, or something like that. I always did that,…

Yeah, I just realized how small that is this morning. I know I overate on peanut butter before. But ... it is quite filling. Potato chips, for me. I usually just avoid them now unless they're part of a meal. Vinegar and sea salt chips are especially addicting.

And, if you ARE tracking all of your calories correctly now, you're malnourished. Increase your intake right away.

Quickly looking at your diary, it doesn't look like you're tracking your calories. Get in the habit of weighing/measuring everything you eat and entering it in your diary. The idea behind MFP is that you eat better when you know exactly what you're eating. You stay accountable to yourself. You're off to a good start with…

First thought: How are you tracking the calories you burn during exercise? Those calories can be over-inflated in online calorie trackers.

Maybe put in half white meat and half dark meat. Seems like a lot of this is just estimation anyway. In fact, with those chain restaurant nutrition facts, I bet at least half the time they're not accurate, because you just know they're not making the food the exact way they're supposed to be.

I'm guessing either of those entries would be a wild guess at best for your meal. When I have a meal that isn't in the MFP database, I try to measure and estimate the calories for the main elements of the meal, then add them up. For instance, if your lemon chicken is mostly chicken, rice and vegetables, I'd take each…

When I'm using MFP or other calorie estimators, I usually only count a percentage of their estimate ... maybe 60-75%. It's kept me from overestimating my calories burned and helped me burn more stored fat if I'm underestimating. It's worked for me so far.

Agree with the comments people have about the protein ... not sure why you would be worried about the amount. I have yogurt almost every morning, and I don't get that much protein from them compared to meats and cheeses. I usually mix greek yogurt and regular yogurt just so that it's not too thick or too runny. I usually…

That's a great article, and a great way to calculate calories burned through running. The "net calorie burn" aspect is something that hadn't even entered my mind. I always thought that the calorie estimates through MFP and other online tools seem high. This would explain part of that. It's also interesting that speed…

If he wanted to marry big boobs, he should fine big boobs to marry. He probably likes your friend because she's submissive. It's going to be a rocky relationship no matter what happens at this point. Instead of her chest, your friend needs to tend to her psyche.

There's a lot of good advice here already. I'll just say that what helps for me is knowing when I can actually eat more during a given day. I have my default calorie goal set to lose a half a pound a week. I'm losing more than that. But, what's been great is that by counting calories, I know on a given day that i can have…

That was my experience. Looking back at it, it's possible that I had a calorie deficit. At the same time, I truly believe that the diet burned fat much more efficiently than a calorie deficit with regular carb intake.
