Seems like there's something missing between Step 2 and 3. "I am getting hungry" to "dizzy and weak." Maybe I'm getting hungry is the same as I am hungry. If that's the case, that's where I need to be to lose weight. It's been the case for the entire 32 pounds I've lost. Again, it's what my belly tells me. And, that's…

I just know what my belly tells me. ;)

Honestly, with me, when I've lost weight, it's been when I was hungry. It's probably different with different people.

One more thing from me. Probably the most important thing. Never give up. You will have slip-ups. You will be upset at yourself at times. You may be discouraged. But, really, the key for me has been to just don't give up. Just keep on plugging away, even if you slip a little. You may tumble. Just catch yourself. Don't let…

EDIT: Sorry, I meant to reply to this. In that context, I can see what you mean. Personally, I started learning how to spot "real food" before I trained myself on how to eat less food. Most of the menu items at fast food restaurants barely qualify as food. Many items in the supermarket have little nutritional value. Once I…

This is true for me, too. As long as I'm burning fat and losing inches, I'm happy. Whether it's 2 pounds in one week or 2 pounds in one month, it's progress. You have to take a long view.

If it's important that you eat it, perhaps eat some, slowly, and try not to finish it. Or, just give yourself a tiny bit to start with. Put it in a small bowl or plate. Give yourself some time, and maybe you've satiated your craving without over-eating.

Very good points.

Yes, I also had to learn how to eat slower. I think that's very important. Otherwise, you don't know that you're full until after you've already overeaten. The thing that I came to realize is that it takes time for your stomach to shrink. As you eat smaller portions, over time your body realizes that those smaller portions…

It's interesting to me that so many people say no food is bad food, and that fast food is not the enemy, and other stuff like that. To me, it's important to eat nutritious food. Or else, I'd have a very hard time keeping to a low calorie count.

1. For me, portion control is hard. I'll have to be vigilant about that for the rest of my life ... not just during my weight loss phase. 2. Patience and balance are key. It's best that I take it slow. I've had to learn to be patient. If I had to give up everything to slim down, I wouldn't. So, I've sought and found a…

In addition to what other people said ... Do you have steps in your home? Go up and down them, over and over. I've done it holding a kettlebell, too. Any weight would work, if you want to ratchet it up a notch. Jumping jacks. Here's a twist: Don't bring your arms lower than your shoulder when you do them. Research other…

I did Atkins about a decade ago. Are you talking about snacks? Pork rinds were a nice, quick snack. Cheese was big for me. Different nuts. I ate more salad on Atkins than at any other time in my life. You just have to avoid the high-sugar dressings out there. Go to the grocery store and read the labels. As an aside: The…

I will say that I can lose more weight if I don't drink any alcohol. I've done it. It's not just the extra calories ... it's the alcohol that your body burns before it burns the extra calories. But, I promised myself that I was in this for the long haul and I would not give up everything that I loved. I have never looked…

OK, thanks. I've been wondering about the value of a heart rate monitor. I'm going to research that now.

What is HRM vs. MFP?

I've grown quite fond of craft beer. I have one almost every evening with my dinner. I've lost a total of 32 pounds in the past two years, and I never gave up beer. Instead of drinking to get drunk, I drink to enjoy the beer. And, craft beer goes very well with food. Now, my thing is trying to pair beer and food. I have a…
