These two are awesome, and I am so happy they accepted my Friend Requests. I'm a former smoker ... it was difficult to quit (about 12 times!), but it's been so worth it! But, I've never run close to 13 miles (nor am I planning to!). So, I'm not saying whose accomplishment was better, but you know ... you can probably…

Almost two years ago, I was told by my physician that my cholesterol was on the high side. It prompted me to lose weight by cutting calories and exercising, and now my cholesterol is fine. What I didn't do is follow his advice to take flaxseed oil and avoid fatty food. I still have a decent amount of fat in my diet, just…

Start measuring your caloric intake. Use a food scale. If you don't know how much is going into your body, you will have trouble losing weight. Work out. Be as active as possible. But, beware that online calorie counters (including MFP) overestimate calories burned. Only enter about 50-75% of the calories that they say you…

You can get out of shape in less than two years' time. Give yourself some time to get your body used to exercise again, and just increase your workouts incrementally. And, realize as you get a little older, you don't bounce back quite as quickly, especially if you overdo it.

That's good to know. I'm getting stronger even though I'm in a deficit. Not worried about gaining bulk as I continue to lose weight, but I do plan to continue gaining strength.

Strength training is great. The stronger you are, the better you'll feel. I've been strength training more and more, and if anything I lost more weight as I upped my strength training and somewhat reduced my cardio. My metabolism is better than it's been since I was youngster. I would have lost more weight if I hadn't…

Good luck. I was sputtering with intermittent weight loss for more than a year until I a) Measured and logged all intake, and b) stayed as active as possible. That meant not sitting on my butt when I got home from work. I usually work out once in the morning and exercise somehow when I get home, unless I have to go out and…

I know a lot of people swear by the HRM, but I've also been told that it's more for cardio workouts. I've been able to lose consistently without an HRM, and I don't have to worry about whether it's tracking calories burned through strength training.

I eat only when I know I'm going to do a lot of weight training. Otherwise, get up between 5:30-6 a.m. and get to it. I used to eat a banana before every morning workout, but I found that I didn't need it, especially if I was only doing cardio. Just do what your body says you should do. If you're dragging during a workout,…

^This. I was most successful when doing this. I only counted 75% when I felt I worked extra hard.

"Be your own hero." Great advice. And, great job! You're stunning.

Just saw this. I've lost about 50 pounds (really 65 pounds from my heaviest years ago). Been overweight for about 15 years. That's a 25% reduction in my size, much of the weight loss coming in the past year. Now, I've got this pooch of extra skin on my stomach. I'm hoping that through time it goes away with exercise.

This part is what I worry about for anyone who has this type of surgery: "The surgery doesn't address the psychological issues around compulsive overeating, and I noticed that the surgeons I met tended to gloss over that." The only person I know who had this surgery looks like she gained back all the weight. You still have…

Craft beer. :drinker: Many are under 200 calories.

One night, I was at my calorie goal and should have just been done with food. But, I was hungry and a little shaky. Ate a snack, felt better and still lost weight that week. I think I just burned more calories than I realized.

Great job! Love to see stories like this.

Word to the OP. I even log "store d'oeuvres." If you're not keeping yourself honest, why go through the charade?

How do you lose fat? Count calories and eat at a calorie deficit. Are you counting your calories every day? You need a scale to measure your input. Weigh food (preferably in grams, because they're more accurate) and measure liquids. Stay active, and try to keep track of your calories burned. Your diary is not open, so…

Thanks for the ideas!

Many moons ago, I cut out carbs (no longer on that diet). It took weeks before my body stopped craving sugar. In the supermarket, I could smell the candy aisle approaching. I had to avoid that area altogether. I also quit caffeine at the same time. I had a headache for over a week. But, it's the best thing I've ever done.…

Good luck! I also am doing this on my own, and my MFP pals have been great company! It's really nice to have support. You can add me if you wish.

I'm new to TDEE, as well. Since I am about 10 pounds from my goal, I wanted to make sure I was precise in my food measurements. I bought a digital scale for home, and I have a cheaper scale at work. I've discovered that on some foods I was overestimating calories and on some I was underestimating calories. I think by…

I lost a lot of weight before I stepped one foot into the gym. Work out at home. Search the Internet for exercises you can do at home. I usually only have time for half-hour workouts. Even 10, 15 or 20 minutes helps. But, be sure you also spend time planning your meals. That's the best way to stay inside your calorie…

I know someone who has asthma who found the right asthma treatment. She used to just do strength training. Now, she's teaching cardio with inhaler in hand. If you don't like cardio just because you don't like doing the same activity (jogging, elliptical, etc.) over and over, or doing group classes, try to find a variety of…

No. I'm lucky to be on no meds.

Yeah, I don't know if I'm doing the HIIT again. I can stay active without feeling like I'm going to die.

I'm 5-foot-5, 151 pounds with a goal weight of 140 pounds. I'm eating about 2,000 calories per day right now and am trying to get at least an hour of activity daily, with half of that at least moderate intensity. I do a mix of cardio and strength training, stay active as a basketball and now baseball coach for my son's…

I will definitely pay more attention to my breathing pattern. I'm usually pretty good, but I was straining at the end, and maybe I was holding my breath. I'm not sure.
-
It's possible it was breathing related. I have to make sure I breathe, for sure.

I'm trying the TDEE method, and have myself at what I believe to be 15% less than my daily energy expenditure. I feel fine most of the time. I've recently had my blood work done, and everything was fine. I ate a little more breakfast than normal, more than 400 calories from a banana, greek yogurt and granola. I drink a lot…
