Also echo Hal Higdon. I went from not being able to run at all in late July 2013 to my first 5k in late September and my first HM in April. Some lessons learned that are repeats of above. 1) start with the C25k to learn to build an aerobic base. Once you're able to run 30 minutes, you'll find it easy to tack a little bit…

I haven't really found a good answer. I estimate 400 for MFP which may be on the low end, especially during HIIT week. But I figured it was better to estimate a little low than high.
-
I ordered a food scale tonight and will give it a try. Maybe I am adding more to the plate than I used to. I'll also switch over to logging everything on MFP. I started logging things on Lose it years ago and it's hard to give up that history (plus I got really used to the app). @AnnPT77 - I live in Dallas, so I'm…

I get what you're saying. I totally do. And I appreciate you trying to help. I learned about accurate logging when I lost weight back in 2014. Underestimate portion size/underestimate net exercise calories. Heck - I preached the same advice as all of you to a bunch of people. It all sounds great when it works...but gets…

I'm eating the exact same thing I ate when I lost 30 lbs. (creature of habit, can eat the same breakfast/lunch every day and rotate dinners). And burning way more calories. I don't think it's the difference between 4 oz of chicken or 6 oz - a big banana or a small banana.
-
I log everything I eat. In January I didn't eat more than 2,000 calories on any given day. I can be a creature of habit when I want to be, so I tend to eat the same thing every day. I'm eating almost the exact same thing I hate as when I was losing weight. I also eat pretty clean, no processed foods, white bread, pasta,…

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no way I'm eating too many calories. I can be a creature of habit when I'm eating clean and pretty much eat the same few meals as the first time I lost weight. Piece of fruit or smoothie for breakfast make a salad at the office cafeteria with spinach, broccoli, green peppers, mushrooms,…

I wasn't the OP - but I was hoping you may be able to help me out any way as I'm in the same boat. 5'10 195 195 (8 lbs gained since Thanksgiving) 183 (weight last summer. I had dropped from 208 to 181 in 2014 by changing/monitoring calorie intake) 1650 1700 sedentary 6 days a week (3 days running 3-5 miles, 3 days 60…

I think the patience part is the hardest. Like the OP, I've been stuck despite completely eating clean since the beginning of the year. No lbs or inches lost. I'm working out more than I did when I originally lost weight (added 3 days of boot camp to the 3 days of running.) It's frustrating when you do everything by the…

You're right in that 2 weeks isn't a huge amount of time in the big picture. It took me 4 months to lose all the weight that I did. Looking back, there was lots of fits and starts. Sometimes you need that little bit of success to make it feel like it's moving in the right direction. Especially since I'm literally working…

I absolutely feel your pain. I lost 25 lbs back in the fall of 2014. Mostly through changing my diet, but I also took up running. I admittedly ate terrible over the holidays and managed to pick up 9 lbs. I figured no big deal, go back to eating clean and running. I also picked up a boot camp class 3 days a week. I figured…

I was trying to ease back into the early part of the training program I used before. I usually run three or four miles 2-3 weekdays and somewhere between 5-8 on the weekend. But I'm having trouble even running three 3-mile runs a week without walking.

great job!!

I've got a question for the group - hopefully somebody can help me out. I started running with the monthly group last fall. I picked up the C25K last August. Ran my first 5k in September. Got addicted. I kept upping my mileage to the point I was running 18-20 miles a week I ran my first HM in April. I cut down my mileage…

Happiness is a new pair of kicks. Got a call from the running store that the new Adrenaline's were in . I'd retired my previous pair after 400 miles and an HM last week. Didn't like my old backup shoes that I never got along with. Picked up the new pair today. Unfortunately it's pouring down rain right now. They'll get…

@5BeautifulDays and @smithie092015 - great job on the 10k!!!! @skippygirlsmom - Hope you get to feeling better soon

@Somebody_Loved FANTASTIC job on your first 5k!!! And of course a PR! You are absolutely correct. You can run 5k anytime, but it's a completely different experience running it in a race. The other runners, the people cheering - it's a great experience!! And nice job treating yourself afterward!!
-
As written above, based on your current fitness level you can easily get HM ready pretty quick. I went from the couch to my first half in 8 months. If you don't do a lot of sprinting right now it'll be more about finding your long run pacing than anything else. I agree with the approach of signing up for a smaller local 5k…

@kareF - AWESOME job on your 10k and getting a PR!!! Sounds like it was a fantastic event! @skippygirlsmom - Congrats to Skip on making sectionals and pushing through on a tough day!

Awesome job!!!

Same here. it's a 5 minute walk to the top to an intersection from my subdivision...99% of my training runs start from that point. I always seem to have random stiffness or ache that pops up early and is gone by the first mile.

I wouldn't worry about it too much and choose the pen you feel most comfortable with. To me the pen is mostly about what your starting pace is going to be - you can always speed up or drop back as needed. As long as you aren't way faster or slower than the pen's pace, I don't think it's that big of a deal. (unless it's one…

@kstar_lee AWESOME job!!!

@5BeautifulDays - good job on the PR. Agree with @skippygirlsmom that dressing for the cold is hard...and really personal. Trying the right layers is a bit of trial and error...but you definitely want to err on the side of being cold at the beginning and warming up while you go. I'm really weird about my hands. They get…

That seems like a reasonable goal. You'll always go a bit faster on race day and if you're going for a time, you'll run a 5k at a faster pace than your moderate speed runs.

0/2 - 3.6 10/4 - 11 10/7 - 3 10/8 - 5.7 11/11 - 11.9 11/18 - 13.3 47.6/60 I ran in the Lewsville (TX) That Dam Half Marathon this morning. It's called that because it actually the course goes out on over a dam that's closed to the public most of the yeer. It was my second half and I hadn't been diligent about as training…

Sometimes you just have a bad running day. I wouldn't sweat it to much. As someone once said on here, a bad one is usually followed by a good one.
-
I like the idea of adding races so that MFP/Running Groups people would get a chance to say hi at events. Or maybe because I'm the sad sack who finishes the race, wanders around the pavilion alone and asking for someone to take a picture before getting in the car and going home. :)

@Elise4270 - I hope you have a quick recovery....

Like a lot of people on here, I was in your boat. Didn't run at all a year ago. I couldn't go more than a couple of minutes without huffing and puffing. Did the C25K, ran a 5-k, ran another one kept running more and did a HM 7 months after I started. There is SO much support, info and help here in the community....
