  • 10/2 - 3.6 10/4 - 11 10/7 - 3 10/8 - 5.7 11/11 - 11.9 Last run before a half next weekend. I wish it had been better. It was a warm day in north Texas with the temps getting up to 77* by the end of the run this morning. I hit a wall in mile 10. Hopefully it'll be a bit cooler next week. I've been pretty discouraged this go…
  • Congrats to all the race runners this weekend! Great job on the times!! I need to update my ticket.... 10/1 - 3.1 miles 10/4 - 11 miles 14.1 out of 60
  • I'm getting back to the group after a whole lot of life events kept me from being or running consistently. I'm gonna go for 60 this month. Most of it will be the last couple of weeks before a HM in October. That may be an adventure. I was as diligent as my first one back in April. And I found that I'm not really good about…
  • That's some amazing progress and speed gains. I just finished my first HM after I started running last fall. (Hal Higdon) I'm looking to cut down my time going into the fall. Everyone says the key is really logging lots of miles. Is that what you found?
  • Lots of good advice in this thread. The one thing I would add is 'what' you consume is just as important as 'how much' you consume. Not all calories are equal. I found when I ate a lot of empty calories (especially processed food), I don't have the energy to run as far or as fast as when I'm eating clean.
  • @WhatMeRunning Great job on your PR! Hopefully it's a minor injury and you're good to go in a couple days.
  • Running question for the group....whenever I'm out running and a woman is running the other way, they invariably smell nice. Meanwhile I smell like a middle school boys gym 2 minutes into a run.... How do women mange to smell normal while racking up the miles while guys stink to high heaven??
  • Just spend about 30 minutes catching up for the week. Loved reading about everyone's runs and races - congrats to all. I'm also glad the dog incident had a safe ending....scary stuff. Sorry to hear about the injuries....hopefully they mend quickly!
  • Lots of good advice above. The right shoes and a training plan are essential. I'm a big fan of Hal Higdon....just used his Novice 2 plan to complete my first HM last weekend. It builds up miles gradually and you're all set by race day. I use Endomondo to track my running. It has training plans as well...though I found them…
  • Great advice above. You definitely just want to run your own pace. Odds are you will run a bit faster on race day, but you don't want to burn yourself out. Many people also advise don't change your routine. Use the same gear, shoes, diet etc that you normally do. And have fun! Your time will me a PR, so it's going to be a…
  • I'd also add let the shoe store know your situation and that your on a budget. Many times they will work with you to try to find something that fits, but it is one sale. I think a lot of models are going to be updated soon, so you can save a lot of money when they are clearing out last year's stock. A lot of times the…
  • What's this shampoo stuff you speak of??
  • I'm in for 70 this month.....with 5 long run Sundays I should do more...but not sure where we will be for Memorial Day and if I'll get a chance to get out....
  • @karllundy Great job on the PR!!!
  • Awesome article!!! Thanks for sharing it! It explains a lot. It makes sense how it adds up over the course of a race.
  • I love the pics of all the folks running together at races. The one thing i hope to do in the future is find some friends to do HM's with...or join a running club or something. It seems like a lot of the fun is comradery before and after the race. When you go solo, it feels like you just sorta show up, run...hang around a…
  • Agree with the comments above. Nobody likes wheezing, being out of breath, side stitch cramps or sore legs/back/feet. But you can avoid a lot of those things by easing in with a C25k program and getting the right shoes. Once you build some lung capacity you'll be amazed at how quickly you can push further and further. And…
  • Great job on the mileage this weekend. Just be careful pushing personal distance records on back to back days. Ramping up mileage in a short period of time without recovery can be a recipe for an overuse injury. (Have have a t-shirt for doing that at the end of the November challenge. )
  • @mmabry72 love that you ran it with your son! that's really cool! @briebee @Training2BeFast (but already there) @kristinegift @peeanoe - awesome job with your races this weekend!
  • You may want to take a peek at the Monthly Running Challenge thread....lots of great people in there with encouragement and advice. And lots of folks running events each week. There was a lot of great advice and friends I made there while training for my first HM. (which was actually this morning...)
  • If you're not running in them, then I'd just do what you did before and find something reasonably priced that you like. Maybe something similar to what you had before...since they seemed like they served you well for a long time. Getting fit for running shoes seems like it would be overkill if you weren't running or doing…
in Shoes! :D Comment by gabbo34 April 2015
  • Due to some unexpected family events, I won't be able to reach my monthly goal. But I did get a chance to run my first HM this morning! It was a great experience. I ran the Lonestar Half in Arlington TX that took us out by Cowboy Stadium, the Ballpark at Arlington, Six Flags and then through town ending up going through…
  • Yeah, I tried to run laps at my son's soccer practice...it was the worst thing ever.... Maybe it would be good for just doing speed work...but the idea of doing a huge number of laps bored me to death...
  • Wow - lots of folks in events last week! Congrats to all of you....I lost track of the names and don't want to forget anyone...but I read each and every one of the posts from the weekend!
  • @skippygirlsmom - Great job on your first HM!!!!! @SonicDeathMonkey80 - love it, and easy HM....you are my running hero!
  • A family medical emergency has kept me off the board and the road. Between going out of town to be there and work when I caught up, running has taken a back seat. My main objective is being ready for my first HM in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll be able to get a few runs in and one more long run next weekend. 4/2 -…
  • I shave my head, but found the skullcaps don't work when I run. I had to go to a hat. But not sure thwt would work in a gym.
  • [img][/img] Thunderstorms last night kept me from running, so I had to sneak one in before work this morning.
