  • Blood donors are getting the antibody test here in the U.S. I gave blood on Sun. and have the result. Apparently I do not have Covid antibodies. This is not a huge surprise, but I was curious.
  • It sounds like the law in Iowa allows for those people to be fined (I'm sure it isn't anywhere close to $1 million), but they are just deciding not to do anything anyway.
  • I just went out for a run (Dyer County, TN), which sucked, heat index was somewhere around 106F. So with the mask mandate in my county, I took a buff around my neck and pulled it up when I was within 6 feet of others, as is the law. There was some jerk who parked his truck at the park right next to the path. This isn't a…
  • I used to live in this county: https://www.kmaland.com/news/concerns-aired-over-enforcing-quarantine-for-covid-19-cases-in-page-county/article_f6efdc78-cb70-11ea-a2f9-d332f55a31b8.html#utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social Short story: rural SW Iowa county has people who test positive and then refuse to…
  • This study identified 6 different "types" of Covid, 3 of which are more severe. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.06.12.20129056v1
  • Yep, many co-workers (NW Tennessee) are going on vacation to beaches in FL, AL, etc. They keep telling this story about how it isn't very risky, but I find it hard to believe.
  • I started out as a hiker / backpacker, then realized I could see more if I went faster... so I became a trail runner. Then got into the social events and goals with road racing. I don't get out on trails as much as I used to now and I do miss them. Where all did you hike? I live in TN and not trying to go far... but…
  • It just goes to show that the old idea of "staying out of it" and saying nothing in order to avoid a retaliatory attack doesn't always work.
  • I know... I had a co-worker go to Florida a couple weeks ago and another that was in Alabama last week (coming back this week, I think). Another co-worker probably going to one of those places next month. I'm in Tennessee, which is another hot state and these people are driving rather than flying (I'm thinking a few min.…
  • Sure - virtuals don't count for anything... the 50 states clubs, the maniacs/fanatics. I wouldn't normally do virtuals, but was signed up for the MCM marathon. When they cut the time limit, I was very nervous. But I wanted the special medal for this year. So I deferred and will run 2020 MCM virtually because I want that…
  • Maybe, but if the requirement for traveling to certain places is to either quarantine for 14 days upon arrival or quarantine for a shorter period and test negative, then I think most people without symptoms will take the chance with a test rather than extend their quarantine to 14 days.
  • https://www.wlwt.com/article/couple-forced-to-wear-ankle-monitors-to-self-isolate-after-kentucky-woman-tests-positive-for-covid-19/33357364 Short story: KY couple tested before traveling to MI, woman has Coronavirus and is asymptomatic. Refused to agree not to travel, so they made them wear monitoring devices. BTW, this is…
  • I like brown bears too, but they are just a bit above my level. These bears are still slightly above my fitness level, sitting on a couch, but it is at least a challenge I can achieve.
  • Welcome, Lisa. Just gotta keep away from those potatoes, amirite? *Yes, that's a joke. As someone who lived in Iowa for most of my life, I'm well aware of the state. I also know how often people from other parts of the country don't know Iowa exists and end up mistaking it for either Idaho or Ohio.
  • Thanks! But Mainly Marathons shut off registration for the remaining 2020 races before I could get registered. It looks like they still might hold the Appalachian series yet, but just want to hold off on any new entrants until it gets closer and there is more certainty about it happening. I've booked hotels (refundable)…
  • With our county mask mandate going into effect on Monday, as well as some stores (including Wal-Mart) requiring masks on Monday even if our county did not, I made some observations today here (Dyer County, TN - NW part of the state): 1. Car dealership had their "Quick Lane" building closed. Quick Lane is a separate…
  • All fair points because these options all must assume that there is no travel nor trade among various states / countries that make different choices. Or to say that another way, this assumes everybody makes the same choice.
  • I think I said this long ago (not going back to find it)... there are basically 3 options: 1. Shut everything down absolutely (like what Spain ended up doing) and contain the virus, but have huge economic losses. 2. Keep everything open, have a lot of death, but not economic losses (aside form the indirect economic…
  • Exactly this. Back in late Mar. and April, some if us were staying home and only going for groceries and laundromat once every week or 2, otherwise staying home. Most others (most where I live at least) were acting like nothing was different and were traveling around as much as always. Until recently, I was the only person…
  • Exactly! Just have everyone do virtual. Students without a computer/internet can maybe be sent packets of materials to read and complete.
  • Could be a deer tick also, yes. The lone star tick is what I fear most. Would be a big problem with my diet.
  • @rheddmobile I agree on telehealth / doctor call if that is an option for you. It wasn't a lone star tick, I presume? Just a basic dog tick?
  • This is interesting because I was just asking elsewhere about the plan. If a teacher or student is infected, then everyone who rode the bus or had a class with that person quarantines for 2 weeks? And if one of them ends up sick, does everyone who rode the bus or had a class with that teacher or student quarantine for 2…
  • Agreed. I can feel bad for people who were responsible and still got sick. For anyone who refused to do the simple responsible things, for those who claim it is all a big hoax while refusing to wear a mask, and especially for those who hold stupid Covid parties; I feel like they deserved it. There has been enough…
  • Yes, I did the 2019 Med City Marathon in Rochester, MN.
  • For us T1D's, there has been some glimmer of hope spreading around recently: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7189199/?fbclid=IwAR2_9Oaz1wJr-t_ezk4ZfUoCk-xbaZgOFYa8O_8Ed5FraogW72KimbTWsqQ I'm not going to stop taking precautions. It doesn't make sense because it is common to have extra issues with illness. Our…
  • I also haven't noticed a change with a SpO2 before/after wearing a mask, but I've only tested at home for about 30 min... not at work after several hours.
  • I do keep the mask on when I go up / down stairs (I'm on the 2nd floor of 2). Sure, it only happens roughly 5-10 times in a typical day, but it doesn't seem to affect my breathing whatsoever. I don't run with a mask these days and I rarely get close to anyone else outside anyway. But early on, I did run with a mask and it…
  • I wear cloth masks at work, started with disposables, for 8-10 hours, depending on how much work there is. And while company policy allows me to take it off at my desk when nobody is within 6 feet, I keep it on except to take a drink or when I eat lunch (I go to my car for lunch). I haven't had any issues breathing through…
