  • Agreed. I'm in TN, but have a lot of friends in IA and other states. Here, almost nobody is getting vaccinated. From what I hear from friends in IA, all but a few there have had the chance already.
  • I would suggest that states should deploy their national guards to help administrator vaccines. However, this is not the problem here. Each day, counties in my state report their status. My county goes from "limited vaccine available" to "no vaccine available" fairly quickly... then stays that way until the next shipment.…
  • I have to say that I am very frustrated at the lack of availability of vaccines. It seems like some states have plenty of doses available while others have scarce supply. Dr. Fauci had said everyone could be able to get it by sping, but some areas are still in phase 1 and I don't see how spring could even be possible.…
  • Yes, as stated: one meaning that nobody else is setup for that.
  • I've driven in 48 states and crossed a lot of borders. The one state that is setup for this is California. They stop all traffic coming in and have done so for years. This includes 4 lane divided interstates.
  • I am going to be on a plane next week for the first time since Jan. 2020. My plan is to bring hand sanitizer and wear N95 masks covered with a cloth mask. I hope that is enough.
  • I am of the opinion that no doses of the vaccine should go to waste if it can be avoided. There seem to be some officials in Texas who disagree with me. They need to get out of the way: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/10/us/houston-doctor-fired-covid-vaccine.html?referringSource=articleShare
  • Dr. Fauci says that by April, he think vaccines will be up to general population. I strongly doubt that. I'm in phase 1c in Tennessee. As of 8:05p yesterday (2/11), not a single county here has reached phase 1c. This is after 2 months of giving vaccinations. TN is limiting vaccines with 2 simultaneous methods - the first…
  • I believe the U.S. has done a really poor job also - perhaps even worse than Canada, but I acknowledge I don't know enough about Canada's response to make a fair judgement there.
  • I'm surprised, but only know about the U.S. Everywhere in the U.S. that I know about is doing the antibody testing - both the Red Cross and other organizations that take blood in smaller local areas. They seem to really want those antibodies for obvious reasons.
  • Like I mentioned earlier, if you can give blood, they will test it for antibodies.
  • For those with a case that lasts, do our bodies stop making antibodies? I mean... if that is the case, then how does anyone ever survive when an infection lasts that long? Of course, they could get antibodies from blood transfusions or monoclonal antibodies. If your body stops making the cells to fight the virus, doesn't…
  • But you had it through Dec., right? Got it in July then lasted 6 months.... so if this is what you had, it was as recently as 2 months ago. Antibodies usually still show up 2 months later.
  • If you are now healthy enough to donate blood, the American Red Cross is still testing for antibodies.
  • Radio news says Johnson and Johnson are submitting for approval of their vaccine this week, with hope if getting it next month. Also, they say it is 100% effective in avoiding death and hospitalization. IIRC, this is a single dose and has a 67% effectiveness, less than Pfizer and Moderna advertised (see a few pages back…
  • I also can't see why schools are not considered to be a risk. My assumption is that it is because most children do not get severe illness. This idea ignores teachers and support staff, family members of those teachers and support staff, and family members of students who bring it home after catching from a fellow student.…
  • I am curious about the science behind this. It seems likely that fewer people would go for testing, which is a problem worse than accuracy concerns. Also, don't threaten me with a good time. 😆
  • Right... my county has a mask ordinance and we still have maybe 10%-15% compliance. I wear a mask to protect everyone else, not myself. It is irritating that others won't do the same to protect me.
  • Regarding gaiters - I rarely see anybody wearing N95's, so this is not about a comparison between gaiters and N95's, but rather between gaiters and cloth masks or the 3-ply surgical masks. Most of what I've seen for purchase of cloth masks, as well as what my state sent out through my employer, are single cloth thickness.…
  • Some information and theories on long haulers. https://www.wsj.com/articles/doctors-begin-to-crack-covids-mysterious-long-term-effects-11604252961?mod=e2fb&fbclid=IwAR2oi-eKhJe2oATU-wfjhhyJwObKujSkyLvpxYxIsABOCGhJyieXsUTS4bg
  • Not just poor, but many elderly who no longer drive may have no ID. These people are in a high risk group for age already, plus may have other comorbidities.
  • Agreed. I think some entire states were caught unprepared. Definitely local county health departments and hospitals / EMS agencies, etc. were not ready. One thing that frustrates me is that first responders are given priority, but only through agencies. Those of us who have certifications as emergency medical responders…
  • I don't understand why the vaccine rollout is so terrible. Sounds like some places have extra doses while other places don't have enough. I feel like the phased approach is holding things back in places with extra doses. Those places where they have enough vaccine, but can't give it to anyone because they haven't been told…
  • In TN, each county is moving through the vaccinations at a different rate. Mine has zero vaccines to give as if yesterday's reporting. So my turn won't come for awhile, it seems.
  • It would be nice to see more data and some investigation about this... short explanation is that the 90%+ effectiveness is based on positive tests in placebo vs. vaccine group. If you include all the symptomatic cases that never got tested, it's 19%. Then if you exclude those with symptoms within 7 days of the vaccine…
  • I haven't heard anything here in Dyer County. Why would they not advertise?!
  • Vaccine supply is high compared to actual distribution. There is concern that they are doing so poorly getting actual shots in actual people's arms that many doses may expire. It is frustrating... She isn't taking the vaccine from someone else if it will just get thrown out otherwise. Please encourage her to take it.
  • Who would have thought that the country with the worst response to Covid would also screw up vaccine delivery?! 😒 https://www.reuters.com/article/health-coronavirus-usa-cdc/us-distributes-over-1307-mln-doses-of-covid-19-vaccines-42-mln-administered-cdc-idUSL1N2JD0DA
  • This fits what I have read, where the FAQ had an answer about scheduling... was basically saying "no sooner than" and to wait until later than the 2nd dose date and not to get it early.
  • Agreed! I'm not betting on their timeline at all. It seems like most all states have really struggled. They have vaccines, they have planned for who will get them... I'm frustrated to see that vaccines exist and not given out yet. Give them all out!
