OP if you haven't left yet, I think you are beautiful in your photo. I would fall down in gratitude to be your size, even though you might have a few lbs left to lose.

thanks, and sorry for the quote FUBAR.

< yes, that was another thought I had about the issue, maybe make my yogurt dessert after dinner. In reading various magazines and books, there seems to be a disagreement whether eating first thing in the morning revs up your metabolism. A lot of nutritionists are death on skipping breakfast.
-
I have always found that when I start on a diet/healthy eating program I lose a lot of weight the first week. Once it was 8 lbs! Guess why all the magazines promise a lot of weight loss in two weeks or whatever. The weight usually comes off a lot slower after a while.

I asked my psychiatrist about this issue and she was not sold on the idea that the medications cause weight gain. I think it's possible to have the opposite effect if the medication treats anxiety and one eats to sooth anxiety and depression. Just a theory.

Jealous! I can't have grapefruit due to taking a statin.

Does a post have to be a question?

I've made a deal with myself: no Coke except for one drink when I go out to a movie. No greasy popcorn or boxes of candy like I used to eat, but a reasonably low calorie treat that I can sneak in.

try a Google search for "protein snacks". great sites pop right up with tons of ideas. Hmm, they make me hungry.
-
Can you try a light but protein-rich snack in the mid-afternoon? Yogurt is a good option.
-
The problem I've always had with night time eating was ending up grazing and binging. Eating a little led to eating a lot. I'm trying these days to have a very light snack around 9pm.

I am dealing with the same issue. I am drinking a good deal and eating a lot of fruit and vegetables, but less food overall. I tried psyllium powder and it worked, but when I stopped taking it, problem returned. So now I'm motivated to stick with it. I don't remember for sure where I got the stuff, probably GNC.

Berries are decadent to have this time of year, but I did buy a large package of blueberries last week and they were delicious!

As the mother in question it's upsetting to me to have my daughter called a "poor girl". But I understand that discussing something this personal on an open forum might result in feedback that I don't find comfortable. Lesson learned.

Just to be clear, she had her ice cream while sitting at the table with me (I didn't have any!) but then I am more the "let's get a treat" parent. I am going to be working on this. I like the suggestion about learning a serving size, thank you.
-
At the dinner table I asked her if she is OK with me bringing up the topic with her father and she said yes so I told him what had happened and he thanked me for bringing to his attention the effects of his chiding. He often doesn't understand how he comes across. We are both very dedicated to raising her to be healthy…

beautiful legs. It's very "in" now for women to have muscles!

Maybe instead of a turkey sandwich with veggies on two slices of bread have a green salad with turkey on top? I have more of an issue with white rice, which is served in my home a lot. I'm subbing it with brown rice and cutting down the servings.

I'm 52 and still working on it so I'm not sure how age will impact my weight loss efforts. In my 30s I lost a lot of weight (twice) and really toned up, but I just let myself go in my forties. : - ( We're also supposed to do weight lifting as a way to preserve strong bones.

I'm not sure what is up with Oprah because I don't watch TV and see her that way, but the occasional sighting in the print media suggests she's come to terms with being billowy. And she has a 4-star chef and personal trainer on retainer. So it obviously takes more than that. Or, just deciding that a woman in her 60s need…

By inspiring I meant because she apparently lost the weight slowly not in some unrealistic "Biggest Loser" method. Yes, it was from eating prepared foods but she still had to stick with the program. That is something I've yet to prove to myself I can do.

I am following this approach. A book on the subject recommends exercising during the fasting period, typically in the morning before the first meal of the day at noon.

I've basically been trying to avoid the white carbs in favor of whole grain. This is not easy at our house where my husband the cook makes white pasta and white rice a lot. We don't like whole wheat pasta so I try to avoid pasta meals. I do make brown rice for myself. I find it challenging when eating out to find places…

Mindless eating at night was a big reason I got into this fix (obesity). I tried not eating at all after dinner but I stay up late and it wasn't working for me. I now have a handful of walnuts and pecans in the shell. Cracking and picking out the meats gives me something to do besides shoving chips into my face, and nuts…

I'm really enjoying my healthy foods, too. I'm especially on a vegetable kick. We learned how to roast root vegetables with a little olive oil and I love them! By "treat" I just meant something that probably isn't 100% solid-gold nutritious, though we all know dark chocolate is medicinal! ; - )

The problem I had with being obsessive/accountable was burn-out. It's not MFP's fault but I did fall off the wagon and regained most of what I lost. This time I am working on an "as if counting" method. I learned a lot about how various foods stack up and try to eat accordingly; really upping vegetables and fruits and…

I used MFP to religiously log everything I ate for more than 3 months last Fall, then I fell off the wagon when I got weary of doing it! Right now I'm eating "as if" counting and it works well if I stick with the program. Not so well if I overeat. Funny about that.

Thanks for all the interesting replies. I purposefully did not venture an opinion in my original post. I wanted to see what others had to say. For myself, I put on tons of weight eating neurotically too much and too crappy a diet. I'm working hard on turning this around. I believe that shifting most of my diet to healthier…

I talked to two doctors about my knees. One suggested I lose weight. Check. The other ordered an ultrasound to see if I have arthritis but I was clear. At my last physical I didn't think to ask for a referral to a physical therapist. I need to find out if I need a referral for a consultation. In the past I lost a great…

It would be a great New Years job, wouldn't it? Either that or consult a physical therapist, as people here recommended. My issue is carving out the time.
