This is one of the best places to go when working on food and weight issues, but when I'm eating badly I don't spend time here! Strange about that.

I do have a really bad relationship with sugar, not so much the bready carbs. I like to think that I am a self-aware person but I think I have some work to do to identify my true feelings (example am I really hungry at night or just eating out of habit?). I don't have much free time on my hands but still found time to go…

I relapsed and went back to eating foods I would not want to be seen eating. I didn't gain it all back fortunately but lost my hard-fought battle to get into the 100s. All this time I've been seeing a therapist but either he doesn't get it or I am not listening hard enough to what he says, but it's not helping. He's very…

I actually do practice intermittent fasting. My problem is that at night I succomb to junky eating, not focusing on getting nutrition. I have some emotional eating issues.

Yes, I have at times lost more like 3-4 lbs a week by being ultra-strict; what I need to do is take a more patient approach which will hopefully reap benefits in forestalling my tendency to fall off the wagon because I feel so deprived and, yes, hungry!

Intermittent fasting helps a lot.

well this is good news then. It's important to remember that they are also giving the calories burned just by living. I was suspicious since it looks like they claim more calories burned in my workouts than I expected. I love my Fitbit and how it gets me moving all the time so I get 10K-12K steps a day. The weight is…

[quote - A good beginner program would be strong lifts or starting strength.[/quote] thank you. What is "starting strength"?

Thank you for this thread because it addressed what I always wondered, are some people really gaining that much muscle? I have not begun a systematic weight training routine. As I lose weight how can I know how much is fat and how much muscle? What would a weight training regime designed to preserve muscle look like?

I was a serious night-time overeater/binger. I singlehandedly kept the local 7-11 in business by purchasing junk there everyday. But now all I eat in the evening is an orange or apple. The secret? Doing it long enough to establish a habit. It doesn't happen overnight but in time the power of routine kicks in. If I could do…

A 40 lb loss would be awesome....the halfway mark for me!

Me, too, but I am a glutton for approbation. Same way with seeing results on the scale. It shouldn't matter if I know I'm on the right track. But I still want to see the drop.

Funny you should say that because I've had egg cravings. I ate egg salad yesterday and recently made scrambled eggs. Only a big deal because I basically never ate eggs before. I also crave salads and had two kinds for lunch. Score!

I've saved a lot of money in the past few months by cutting out my trips to fast food joints and 7-11 to get junk for binges. : - ( Now I am going to work on all the rest of the restaurant food. As was said here, I want it to be special, not the norm!

I'm in the no-breakfast, intermittent-fasting, early eating makes me nauseous camp. However after not eating breakfast for a long time today I just wanted a bowl of cereal so I had some with blueberries and other fruit for lunch! I won't do that everyday because at l lunch I like to have soup or stew with beans, and a…

Thanks for the advice and insights. I've been pushing pretty hard lately, upping my exercise and restricting calories a lot. I have a tendency to all-or-nothing thinking which is historically why I've dropped a lot of weight only to crash and burn and resume neurotic overeating. That is my overarching goal - even if I…

Haven't read the books but I've always been bemused that so-call "Mommy Porn" has a BDSM theme. What about the zillions of more "vanilla" romances read by people in this country? They don't count but a kinky book does? I think I would be embarrassed to see this movie in public and I'm not a prude.

yhannah - I might have to try Quest just because I love your photo so much. :D

I read an article online that rated Kind bars at the top so I ordered a sample off ebay. Once I find a bar I like I order by the box from Amazon which is why I've ended up with a good supply of a few kinds...

I just saw a throw-away comment by a "nutrition expert" in "Health" magazine that the body will break down muscle for fuel after....missing one meal. WHAT?

I found out Panera has another sandwich off the menu but it's the "Big Kids Grilled Cheese", not exactly diet food. I like that Panera has built-in half-sandwich options with their Pick Two. I like the barbecue flatbread in particular, paired with a salad. I once read an article slamming Subway and it made me irritated…

Well, the line at Ihop was out the door so we went to Plan B which was Panera. I love their Pick 2 with the barbecue chicken flat bread and a salad. Yum!

Isn't 900 calories really low for a guy?
-
I found a webpage on the Ihop site highlighting their Simple and Fit items, but at least one, the chicken sandwich, was not on the menu last time I was there. I will be interested to see if I can find other offerings tomorrow.
-
I remember last time I was there I looked for a grilled chicken sandwich they used to have but it was gone. I had a hard time finding anything marked with their icon for healthy/low calorie but come to think of it, one omelette had the rating. So I'll look at that. I didn't stop to think about just eating half of the…

1HappyReadhead- just so you know, I would be thrilled to lose 53 lbs! Good job!

I expect this is weird since it MFP, but I don't track calories anymore. I eat AS IF counting (back when I was counting for months I learned a lot about portions and calories of the foods I eat). I still check calories on restaurant food whenever possible, but I don't focus on calculating every morsel. Why? Because I was…

sounds to me like you ARE an inspiration! :)

Interesting phenomena here. I see a practice which has a lot of turnover. One year I said I was concerned about my sore knees and the (ultra-thin) doctor snapped "lose the weight". No advice how to do it. Next time I saw a chubby doctor who admitted he had no idea how to lose weight himself. This past time I brought it up…

I remember asking my OB/GYN about the weight I was gaining in pregnancy and he said they never bring it up because it just makes women cry!
