changing taste buds

I just read an article in a fitness magazine that says after giving up junk food the taste bubs often change so the food ends up tasting too strong. Coincidentally yesterday I had some chips for the first time in quite a while and they WERE too strong. I stopped after several of them. It was easy to put the (single serving) bag away.
OTOH, I still have a sweet tooth and when I had Coke it still tasted great! Maybe because I have a little dark chocolate every day.

I've found this to be true too, and I'm so glad! It makes it much easier to control how much I eat, and some foods that I used to mindlessly eat tons of I now avoid altogether (like jelly beans - tried some a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how super sweet they were).0

I doubt it has anything to do with your taste buds--I'll bet you're just no longer as acclimated to the taste. I love potato chips, specifically the salt and vinegar chips, but after not having had them for a while (they are a rare treat now, instead of a weekly thing), I found they were too salty for me to have as many as I used to have in one sitting. I still think they taste just fine, though. Same thing with sugary sodas--I can't drink them any longer because they taste too sweet--but on the one day that I needed a sugar boost for my low blood glucose I bought two cans of Coke. After gagging my way through the first, the second one tasted pretty good.0

I definitely agree. I find myself craving things like boiled eggs, grilled chicken or a salad instead of sodas, chips, or pizza. Not that I don't have those things every now and again0

Funny you should say that because I've had egg cravings. I ate egg salad yesterday and recently made scrambled eggs. Only a big deal because I basically never ate eggs before. I also crave salads and had two kinds for lunch. Score!0

Many years ago...like 15 years ago at least, I went on a very restrictive low sodium diet. I was on it only for about 2 weeks, but ever since then, I cannot stand very high sodium foods and never add salt to my meals anymore.
That ended up being a (not to bad) lifestyle change for me...my taste buds definitely changed. As far as sodium in concerned anyway. Sweets? Oh forget it...I will never lose my taste for that everrr! LoL0
