Sweets are my drug of choice as well. Lots of junk food. All I can say is that when I'm using MFP I REALLY don't want to log junk food and this helps me steer clear. I did have an ice cream cone the other day when I really really wanted it, but I got the kid size. Just so I could log the smallest amount I could on MFP.…

The real problem with birthdays is the cake that hangs around for days! I plan to ask for individual fruit tarts for my upcoming birthday. The kind made of custard with whole glazed fruits on top.

I am intending to take a break from counting when I get to that point in my weight loss journey where I am tired of counting and so bored with the whole thing that I give up. This has been my pattern for years, lose 30 lbs, hit a plateau, get sick of counting calories or points, and revert to bad habits so I regain. Blah!…

I lost 37 lbs on here last Fall but nobody seemed to notice. Guess that was a main reason I gave up the following few months. Now I am trying to keep in mind that my most important reason to lose the weight is my health. I'll know I"ve made read progress when my knees feel better!

I second the advice that you just remember that whatever the goodie, it's bound to come around again so it's not like you have to eat it because you'll miss out. This was my mindset recently at a restaurant when they had my favorite cookies. I reminded myself that they have these cookies every Friday! I was able to just…

I had my husband hide the digital scale so now I need to ask for it back if I want to use it. Since starting back on MFP this week I have started sneaking a look at my old-fashioned scale. It's hard to read so I still want to check on the digital once a week to make sure I'm on track. I think the woman who lost 2 sizes of…

thanks! I am debating whether to ask for one for my birthday. I need to decide if I would really use it.

Know that you are not alone.

I think that is wonderful. My therapist would cheer!

I totally relate to this problem. Historically I have been able to stay on track long enough to lose around 30 lbs, then I just give up and go back to the bad habits that piled on the weight. Every time I start over again I want to believe I will stay committed. This time I am striving to be gentle on myself rather than…

I am presently on hiatus from tracking because it got to feeling like as much a compulsion as my overeating, and I got burned out. However, I am basing my eating on the principles of what I learned by tracking, such as portion size and good foods to get when eating out. Over the past several years I yo-yoed between being…

I'm trying to keep it down to once a week or at least every few days. It's great when the scale goes down but when it goes up or stalls I have a hard time keeping it from spoiling my whole day. I'm supposed to be losing 1-2 lbs a week so it may take that long to actually see a drop.

I've been on generic Celexa and Zyprexa for several years now. I tried various times to go off meds but had bad experiences so I've had to admit that I seem to need them. I've been quite overweight since going on these medications but I blame obsessive overeating. Even when on meds I have self-medicated my moods with food.…

I hope you are OK. I also like Chick Fil-A for their healthy options. Around here Panera Bread is good, too, but only if you actually get the lower-calorie option, not the incredibly delicious/fattening mac and cheese! A similar place is Boston Market - plenty of high-calorie yummy foods but also better options.

A "beer" belly is not just for beer drinkers. I have been a teetotaller my whole life but I have a belly from compulsive overeating. I inherited my body type from my mother. Only when I got to really fighting trim did it go away completely. I look at photos of myself from those days and can only marvel. Lots of weight…

This question speaks to me. I joined MFP last Fall and lost quite a lot of lbs but after Christmas I started to feel stuck and frustrated. Obviously 2-3 weeks with no progress doesn't really mean a plateau. But I felt discouraged and went right back to the behaviors that resulted in my being obese in the first place. I had…

This seems to me to be a classic case of being "hungry" when tired and probably bored. Why does junk food appeal so much more than healthy snacks? Are there any healthy foods that would fill the need without overloading on calories and chemicals? This is something I struggle with.

I think that is very wise, and something I don't think about as often as I should. thanks
