  • You don't need more calories at 5 1/2 weeks to lose weight but you might need more protein and water. If your protein and water is low your body may enter starvation mode and hold onto weight. I would add a Protein shake at around 50g protein. Mix it with milk and feel free to add fruit. This will up the calories as well.…
  • You are only 7 weeks so I will agree with the "moisten food" advice. Add a little gravey or sauce to your foods to help you out. Really try to avoid taking a drink - you need time to make the adjustments and develop the habits. Each setback just prolongs the difficulty.

  • No regrets but I did go through the emotional process of making such a drastic change. Still have not completely wrapped my minds eye around how different I feel and look. There is a lot of information to process and early on you are recovering from surgery. Hang in there, follow the program and in about 4 months your only…
  • I tolorate most everything but I did find that anything highly carbonated makes me feel very uncomfortable so I just avoid it. However being a beer fan I did have to experiment and like @bikrchk I found Guiness to be enjoyable and easy to drink. Spaten double bock is also lightly carbonated (just a bit more than guiness)…
  • Attend a support group and gather as much information about the two procedures as you can. There are posters in this group who have had great success with both VSG and RNY. More than likely your surgeon will reccomend which one he thinks is best for your situation but ultimately it's your choice. Fatty liver: You will more…
  • Your post confused me a bit; Can you only drink a half bottle or do you not like the Isopure? Have you tied a few of the Isopure flavors? I used two bottle per day in the first few months which helped me nail the protein goal while getting 40 oz liquid. There are a great many good products available, many listed by the…

  • How: Spent the day with family and friends at a 3 day Lacrosse tournamnet and a good 'ole Anerican style BBQ with Fireworks. What: I celebrate the amazing idea formulated 238 years ago that our 13 Colonies were free "United States", independant of and severed from a monarchy. I remember the sacrifces made and risks taken…
  • Let us know how you did today.
  • I'm with @Magopickle and @bikrck, great advice. During the first few months I was advised to ignore calories and focus on protein and liquid intake. My food plan transitioned from full liquid to full foods (including beef) over a 6 week period. The barriatric nurses from my hospital would check up on me to make sure I was…
  • @Mangopickle is spot on; "MFP doesn't have a bariatric setting so it will always holler until you actually get to your maintenance calories". We go through a medically supervised period of extreme weigh loss that is not recognized by general tools and apps. You must trust your Dr., Nutritionist and work the perscribed…
  • I am an MFP and FitBiot addict. Twice this week I left my iPhone in the car and was a wreck all day. Tracking food has become such a normal part of my routine that I cannot imagine going backwards. Now that I have switched to "Maintain weight" I see the tool as even more critical. My calories have increased, as has…
  • Why are you worried about support and sabotage? You are an RN so you know how to to handle the minor wound care, you do the shopping and cooking so you can make what you need and you came to the personal realization that you need to make a change. Nobody in your life needs to be educated and nobody needs to approve of your…
  • I have found that cooking small amounts of fresh proteins helps. Instead of making a big portion and eating for three days I keep it small and fresh which allows for variety. That said I do each a lot of grilled chicken....
  • Take a look at my food diary; I eat everything I want but I weigh and measure everything, track all my exercise with a FitBit and make sure I get my protein in first. The sleeve is only a tool, you need to take advantage of the severe early capacity restrictions to develop some new positive habits. Exercise - Weigh Food -…
  • For the most part Pasta, Bread, Rice are not a part of your post WLS diet. I can count on one hand the amount of days I have had a serving (4oz) of a pasta dish since my WLS last September. Pasta was a staple of my pre WLS diet and tastewise is still one of my favorite things to eat but it just does not make sense. In…

  • Here's something else to think about; You should not be crying about the breakup you should be celebrating. I have no idea what your personal situation is or why your relationship would end but I do know that it takes a special kind of prick to break up with someone one week before a major surgery. At a minimum a man who…
  • Agree with @grim_travelle; I had a "Food Funeral" or as I called it "Farewell to Food Tour" but that ended the day I started the pre-op liquid diet. When you have a funeral you mourn, bury the body and go home. You don't take the casket with you!
  • I would suspect you are undereating and would reccomend chatting with the Nutritionist. Show them your MFP food diary and ask for advice. My Dr & NUT both counseled me not to focus on calorie restriction but rather Protein and Fluid intake plus making good choices when I eat: Protein first, Veggies second, very (very)…
  • What you are referring to are a few generalities; the surgeon removes between 70 & 80% of the stomach. This will eliminate most if not all of the normal "stretchy" part of the stomach. Everyone will eventually end up with a different, unique, capacity. Over the first year as you heal and move to a more normal diet your…
  • I am really glad that little post touched you Jena! A point to consider would be that people make this comment intending to hurt. For many who struggle with weight the insinuation that you are "lazy" or "just eat too much" or "won't exercise" hits deep and provokes an emotional response. I suggest you don't give them that…
  • Great news for you - means the pipes are all connected right and there are no leaks!!!
  • Good for you!

  • First up a few questions; 1) Do you log all your food into MFP?, 2) Is 1,200 your daily goal in MFP?, 3) If not what is your MFP goal?, 4) Do you attempt to eat back exercise calories?, 5) Are you hungry after exercise? I ask this because 1,200 might just not be enough to meet your nutritional needs while losing weight.…
  • Along the same lines I have found that "Ensure Clear" is going to be my way to add fluid and calories during the summer. My baseline is now 2,200 calories plus exercise so I need to eat more which can be hard (30 minutes between to get fluids). Felt a bit fatigued last week which I attributed to fluid intake. The Ensure…
  • With respect to coffee: I code it into MFP using the "Tim Horton's" choice in MFP at 90 calorories for a 20 oz cup with cream. I use Splenda so there are no added calories. In the past I have scanned the creamer in and put the coffee at 0 but have found that it's just easier (and more conservative) to use the 90 calories…
  • I do not count the coffee towards my 8 cups (64oz) of fluid. In general I place all my measurements on the conservative side; if there are two choices in MFP I chose the higher calorie one (unless I have exact). When I weigh something I round up. Little adjustments like this add up and I believe have helped my have such a…
  • Well @prettiestpaul; How are we doing 3 weeks out? Everything can be overwhelming early on but it does settle down as you learn to listen to your body. Are you progressing through blended food to some solids yet? Are you getting your protein and fluids in? Let us know.
