  • Drink a 1/2 pint Guiness - wait an hour, have some Corned Beef and Cabbage (1/2 cup), wait an hour, drink a Guiness 1/2 pint. 30 minutes to drink the beer, 60 minutes to wait. 30 minutes to eat, 60 minutes to wait, 30 minutes to drink the beer. Avoid the Potato and Soda Bread. 3.5 hour party: 440 calories, 17 grams of…
  • Happy Birthday - 40/40

  • @rubisliprz: Why sad? You are at 80% of your goal in 6 months - that's time to celebrate! How are your proportions? Are you losing inches? Exercise will build muscle which weighs more than fat. This will show a slowdown, or stall in weight loss but your overall fitness and health have improved. Transition your thinking…
  • Just a little time and patience and you will be fine. Let your body detox from the drugs you got in the hospital, let the swelling subside and learn to recognize "head hunger" and "thirst".
  • As you can see the decisions are very individualized so you really need to have frank dicsussions with your Dr. on what is the right one for your specific situation. For me; I quickly ruled out the LAP band as an option primarily due to the installation of a port. I wanted a one-and-done medical procedure not regular…
  • Garber is on track; carry protein bars, drinks, almonds etc. with you when you travel. I did a NY to Key West vacation 3 months post op. We drove both ways - 17 total days. Ate out everyday. A little pre planning goes a long way.
  • I had a "Farewell to Food" tour in the two weeks before I went on pre-op diet. Actually gained three pounds. Hit all my favorites; fast foods, high end foods, comfort foods, beer etc. Maid mental peace with my decision and went straight into the pre-op. This wa my own mourning period, I did what I needed to do to make…
  • Mostly I weigh as it seems to be the most accurate however when using the bar code scanner on my phone for input I try to stick with the unit of measurement on the package.
  • Doing well. If your water tastes have changed try adding some flavor; lemon or lime juice is great. I also like the Crystal Light sugar free packets. Box says 1 packet per 16 oz but I prefer 1:32oz (less sweet). Whatever it takes to getthe fluids in - very important.
  • I adjusted my thinking to "Fitness". Back in January I hired a Personal Trainer to help guide my workouts. I figured that since I had hired a Nutritionist, Surgeon, Cardiologist etc. it made sense to have my physical training supervised as well. Well - my body is transforming but my weight loss has slowed. Muscle gain will…
  • I would have started to log all my food into MFP pre-op if I had known about the app. The best habit I have developed (besides exercise)!!
  • Don't be afraid to add things to your powder to enhance the flavor. Vanilla extract, almonds, peanut butter, bananas, apples, cinnimon. I experiment to keep things fresh. Just remember to log everything into MFP (best habit to develop)
  • Love my coffee!!! As for pre-op; I went cold turkey one week prior along with my liquid diet. Figured I was going to be miserable anyway. After surgery I did not have any urges for coffee so it was easy. Started to enjoy some after 3 months and now I have one or two on most days. Everyone is different - do not do anything…
  • I like Isopure and Advocare BUT you should purchase small amounts of different brands to try first. Your taste will change. The Hospital will start you on a couple of different ones and give you a few to take home. Try small before you buy. I also am fond of Isopure clear protein drinks. 20g of protein, 20 oz of fluid.…
  • Bingo on the walking. I tried to make sure I got up out of the chair at least once and hour and walked around the house. After a few days I ventured outside.
  • Doing great. Try using a "sippy cup" like the top lids on a 7-11 coffee cup. You can also tilt the cup up more which helps pour the liquid rather than sucking it out. Helps minimize air.
  • Wow - a three year wait! Hope my US friends who ware thinking of a sleeve get it done quickly before our healthcare system changes to yours. That said - if you plan on coming to the US make sure you choose a hospital that is a bariatric center for excellence in order to maximize your outcome.
  • That's not an Easter pic! You took it while watching the Lions tank down the stretch - I make the same face during Jet games.
  • Congratulations on forthcoming #3! You may want to snack on a meal replacement bar that is not a low carbohydrate bar to help you get that full and energized feeling. I would still stay away from refined carbs and fats but an original Clif bar tastes real good, is very healthy and will energize you. I am coming up on 6…
  • Firts up: check the diet plan your nutritionist will give you and question everything so you understand the limitations your Dr wants you to follow. My plan was for 1 week and I lived on Isopure Clear protein drinks, suger free jello & pudding, chicken broth, ice pops and ensure liquids.
  • What a great weight loss! You need to be proud of your accomplishmments so far and understand that life will not be a smooth progression. So you put back 15 - big deal! You know how to do this, juts get to it. For motivation - put up one of your old pictures! You must look amazing now and will not want to go backwards.…
  • Mango is on the money. Additionally - did you get a post surgery perscription for liquid tylenol 3 (with codine)? That will help and is already perscribed. If you do not want the codine just substitute liquid tylenol. If you did not get this scrip then wait until you talk to the Dr's office.
  • I have the occasional beer (Guiness seems to work best) and have had Mojito's with a splash of soda but otherwise I really avoid carbonated drinks as they make me feel bloated. Besides that I m always on the lookout for foods and drinks that could trigger old eating habits that I need to avoid. For that reason - soda has…
  • Funny - haven't gone near Jello in 6 months. Congratulations and good luck!
  • Sleeved September 26, 2013, closing in on 6 months. A great decision that has helped me jump start a new healthy lifestyle.
  • Great topic. For the people who have just posted - jump over to the "VSG" group, more people and more active.
  • Best advice is to remember that except for the Protein the rest of the MFP numbers should be viewed as a guildline. Our situation is different that the norm. We are under a medically supervised weight loss program that MFP cannot account for. There is no way to set the weight loss goal for more than 2 pounds per week and…
  • Thinking of you today.
  • @2Mouse: Is there really a big difference between 46 and 51? As long as your breathing it's not too late!! Most of the "sleever's" I come accross all wish this procedure would have been available years ago. The Dr's who invented it have a special room in Heaven waiting for them!
  • Don't forget to chew thoroughly. When reintroducing proteins like chicken, pork then beef it is critical to chew. Softer proteins like fish are easier early on as are ground meats but you must really chew very thoroughly. Good luck! (did I say chew yet?)
