  • Thanks - it's back to normal.
  • Started Biotin one month pre-op at the suggestion of my Nutritionist and Batiatric RN. Had ZERO hair loss and I am now 6 months out. Besides Biotin I have tried real hard to keep my protein high and to eat a varied diet with a daily multi vitamin. Can't say for sure that Biotin helped but it sure didn't hurt.
  • You may have yougurt as soon as you go from full liquids to pureed foods - 2 to 4 days (from my Dr's plan, yours may be different). I would avoid the small seeds until after the one week check up, the biggest post-op worry is the staple line not healing well. Better safe than sorry.
  • Mango nailed it; food scale & log everything into MFP. Other than that - protein first, fluids, exercise and patience. The weight, and most importantly th einches will melt away.
  • I'm with Latse on this; Use MFP to set the percentage of protein (60+ grams) and let MFP balance the Fat & Carbs. As long as you aren't eating refined carbs (breads, rice and pasta) I wouldn't really worry.

  • I agree with the last two positings; 1) Make sure you are getting protein, 2) Make sure you are getting enough fluids and 3) Weigh everything so you have accurate information. I will add the following; Log everything into MFP. This way when you hit a stall you will see correct and accurate data and not be forced to wonder…
  • 4oz is a lot of liquid for some people in thier first week. Finish what you finish and try again in another hour. The key is to sip throughout (1oz every 15 minutes) the day to get your fluid intake up. Caloric intake at this stage is irrelevant! Fluid and protein is all you need until the internal swelling goes down.…
  • I did a farewell to food tour for a week, actually gained three pounds. Didn't slow me down a bit - once I started all went well. On a positive note: teh only foods I really said "good-bye" to are the really bad foods and fast food. The healthy foods came back into my like when I was ready.
  • 6 months out and rice/pasta must still be in very small quantities. Just a taste of rice of 2 oz of pasta, same with any bread items. Curiously Kashi cerial goes down real well. I can eat this (3.8 to 4 oz cerial with 4 oz milk) very comfortably. Nice breakfast changeup on the weekends. Also very good for my fiber. At two…
  • Everyone will experience this differently but getting plenty of water and protein PLUS working out (strength training) will give you the best possible result for you. I have lost over 100 lbs and have a small amount of loose skin on the abdomin that is not really a problem - even with my shirt off. I will see how this goes…
  • Better to find out..... * I know a few people who have pacemakers - guess they are cheating, should have stronger heart * I know a few people taking anti-depressants - guess they are cheating, weak minded * I know a few people with false teeth - guess they are cheating, didn't brush and floss enough * I know a few people…
  • Took it for you, good luck.
  • My wife made an OUTSTANDING Pot Roast, complete with a top shelf butcher cut and fresh vegitables. Then into the blender it went. The results were an amazing taste, great smell and pile of poop visual. Normally this would make me run very far and very fast from the table but not this time. After 3 weeks of liquids and…
  • Protein + fluid = success. I suggest you take a look at a protein shake or clear drink. Most basic protein shakes can be sipped and will dliver between 25-50 grams of protein in 8 - 12 oz of fluid and contain 125-220 calories depending on whether you mix with water or milk. Protein drinks were are staple of my diet for the…
  • Diary is open here as well. Welcome aboard and good luck!
  • You have just admitted you are human and wanted a taste of a donut. SO WHAT? You are not on a diet - you have changed your eating to help you live better. We poison ourselves when we think "Diet". "Diet" implies suffering and we mentally reject that. You are losing weight more slowly but are still losing - great job! You…
  • I agree with Pickle; after such a devistating year you really need the support of people who understand. Find a bariatric support group in your area and make it a priority to go. There will be people in all stages of the program there and you will get renergized. Stay strong!
  • Well - let's see!!! Add a picture so we can see how great your "old self" looks. Be proud.
  • In time you will think less about how little you can consume and more about how good you feel. It's a big mental change that takes time. I was a "gotta get the biggest steak" on the menu guy who felt he was getting cheated if he didn't eat everything he paid for. Now I understand how little I really need to fuel myself and…
  • There is agreement among the veterans here; don't rush! Liquids only - protein drinks and clear broth until your Dr. allows a progression to soft foods. Follow the plan and you will be amazed by the results.
  • Courage isn't the absece of fear it's taking action by controlling fear. The absence of fear is insanity. You took all the right steps, did the research and prepared. Now be ready to move forward.
  • Great news - you are on final approach. Stay positive.
  • Try Isopure clear liquid protein drink. A 20oz bottle will deliver 40g of protein. During the first two weeks I sipped on these all day which helped me meet my fluid intake and exceed my protein goal. After that I reduced to one bottle a day in addtion to taking in pureed foods. Gradually, and I mean gradually, you will…
  • Water, exercise, protein and weigh all foods. If you stall check your protein and increase your water.
  • I hit the gym at the 1 month mark doing cardio and basic arm and leg weights, just to break the cobwebs off. At the 4 month mark a hired a PT to create a workout plan specific to my goals and needs. She works with me once per week and I work the plan after than. The key is in interviewing trainers to find the one best for…
  • See you on the other side.
  • 13 months. I took my time, did the research, asked questions and slowly worked through all the required appointments. Some people do it faster, some take longer. For me taking it slow until I was completely comfortable with the decision and life changes was the way to go.
  • Breath, relax and keeping reminding yourself how this will be the first step to a wonderful tomorrow. Then make sure you stay connected with the groups who will help you navigate the days and weeks after surgery. This really was the best thing I did for myself in a very long time and I am so much happier than before. Not…
  • Crystal Light Natural Lemon Iced Tea. On the go packets mix well with 33 oz water (box claims 1:16oz but that is to sweet for me). 5 Calories each - costs me 10 calories a day to make sure I get 66 oz of water.
  • Exactly Mango! Guiness is the most lightly carbonated beer I found and the Draught Bottle is only 125 Calories. Have been enjoying some on occasion since 3 month mark. Dr. said eat and drink what you can tolerate in small amount. Make sure of protein and fluids. NUT is more strict but I always default to my Dr. Working so…
