Lowbar just below parallel, ala Starting Strength.

I’ve seen the starting baseline ratio set at 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat. Adjustments made as necessary, primarily lowering carbs and raising protein depending on carb tolerance and individual response. Generally don’t lower protein if interested in maintaining or gaining lean mass.

As far as I know, calipers are the most accurate at-home method for determining body composition. AccuMeasure has a set specifically designed for using alone and only requires one measurement. You can track your percent body fat and lean body mass weekly to find out where you are increasing and or decreasing.

Soreness is generally caused by a novel eccentric muscle contraction—a new stimulus with a loaded stretching of the muscle. What exercises are you doing and how are you loading them, reps, sets, weight etc?

Congrats! Stay the course! Love this, and couldn’t agree more.

for me it’s scotch i enjoy, as much for the connoisseurship as anything, but that expensive whisky leads to cheap whisky which leads to... so yeah, i best not travel that road. yet again lol

i think you’ll need to be stronger to see benefit from a hypertrophy style program i would suggest running a linear progress program like starting strength for three months to get your lifts up a bit

planks are a good way to learn how to brace, and also strengthen, your abdomen for pushups

if i could go back and hit delete instead of send, i would i am realizing now what i wrote was for me and not you, and i am truly sorry to have caused you pain. yes, let us move on, forward in our battles, in the appropriate spirit of this community

i think it’s more that some of the kids i grew up with were manipulative, lying thieves, and there was a lot of peer pressure. part of me is very angry at myself for being weak (physically and mentally), and maybe i project that outwards more than i should. lifting weights and training bjj has helped me begin to overcome…

@RubyRed427 yeah i think it has a lot to do with where i grew up and where i work. rock springs is a pretty industrial place in the middle of the desert with a somewhat sordid history, and i work in the oil field where nothing is sugar coated. i understand that approach doesn’t work for everybody

Thanks, I appreciate that.

sorry. happy monday everybody!

another friend of mine, jimmy pacheco, who i knew all through jr high and high school (yes, we were drinking buds, and coincidentally was the first person i got high on weed with) died in his early 20’s, though not directly from alcohol. he was 300+ pounds—i’m sure the excessive day drinking didn’t help that—and had an…

all this somber reminiscing is doing wonders for my mood this morning lol but it is what it is, and helps remind me why i don’t drink

i had a friend in high school tell me he gets kittened up because he couldn’t handle reality. he’s now in prison for slamming into a parked semi truck at full highway speed, killing his wife and two others. there were no skid marks. https://kowb1290.com/three-killed-in-crash-near-evanston/

a few weeks ago, after i first started posting in this thread, i had a really rough weekend it seems that outing myself to random strangers on the internet triggered some grievous desires

again i apologize most humbly i’m 44 years old, my name is jeremy, you can call me that if you like, amongst the other names i’m sure you have for me i’m no stranger to being the voice of unpopular opinion, one would think i’d learn to keep my mouth shut, but alas it was always a fun bar conversation to tell folks i don’t…

certainly, my apologies i’m a tough love kinda person, and only wish someone had slapped me around a long time ago. no harm intended

please forgive me if this isn’t what you need to hear, but i’m saying it just in case it is: it sounds to me like you’re passing responsibility for your failure onto someone else. those kittenheads who stormed the castle didn’t pour alcohol down your throat. you did. own it as yours; don’t try and justify it to yourself…

definitely agree with tuning out the “news”. it’s never as bleak as they want you to believe.

i try and stretch every night before bed, and sometimes i have to get up in the middle of the night and foam roll to calm the diabolical appendages, and unfortunately sometimes nothing seems to work.

use it to boil bratwurst in, or something similar, then you’re neither wasting it nor drinking it!

eat what your body tells you to eat if you’re starving after a great workout eat a giant steak with a salad and a glass of milk, and if you’re still hungry after that enjoy a bowl of ice cream! if you feel like you’re getting fluffy then tone it down a bit just make sure to get enough protein, preferably with whole foods,…
