  • 1. Started logging my food. 2. Reducing my alcohol consumption. I thought it was going to be impossible, but it gets easier everyday. 3. Private. 4. I'm ten pounds down. 5. No more depression and absolute feeling of disgust with myself. Before I started MFP, I laid on my couch all day watching television. He last two weeks…
  • My only comment is that if you raise your children to be vegetarian, then ensure they eat vegetables. My cousin's children were raised vegetarian for religious reasons. They are now teenagers and they refuse to eat anything other than chips, macaroni and cheese, cheezits, french fries. No salad, baked potatoes, vegetables…
  • How do you chose your friends on MFP? Are they people you know in person?
  • Most important is to keep your food diary. You may be sneaking up in portion size without knowing it. Also measure all high calorie foods like oil and alcohol. That is what helps me.
  • Good for you. Do what is best for your weight loss journey.
  • I would see my doctor.
  • I made it to day 3. However, I portioned out my alcohol and logged it and stayed under my calorie limit! I'm doing much better at control. The scale is showing this. I'm tracking drinks in my food diary.
  • I've had success using a flavored decaf coffee as a treat. I normally only drink coffee in the morning, black with no sugar. But I recently bought Baileys Mudslide coffee creamer (no alcohol) because it was on sale. It is delicious! I put that in a decaf coffee with a little sweetener and I feel like I'm really having a…

  • Tofurkey.....That's great to know. I have a vegetarian coming for Thanksgiving. Is it good?
  • Hi, I'm new at this too and drink every night. But yesterday I went without alcohol for the first time in along time. I'm so proud of myself! I know it is only one day. I'm going to try to do without alcohol until Thanksgiving Day when I'll have to have some wine or it just won't be traditional.
  • I agree, an apple. I'd drink a glass of water with it too.
  • Do you track what you eat during a big feast?
  • What app did you use to record your weight? I searched for Libra but didn't find it.
  • Good luck! A wedding is an excellent motivator. And you've started early enough that you don't need to panic and starve yourself. I think this site is much better than Weight Watchers. I was a WW on-line user for YEARS and just gained weight. The barcode scanner on this program makes logging meals so easy. I haven't found…
  • Thanks, yes I'm trying. I'm measuring the alcohol - not just pouring. It is a bit of a trigger, so I'm trying to go without but have not had much success with that.
  • I do thus but also add 1 T of Dijon and 2T of brown sugar. This changes and amps up the flavor considerably.
  • I think generally you don't want to gain more than 2 pounds before you go back to restricting calories. I've been there too many times where a temporary three pounds turned into a long term 30.
  • You should train all the kids to make healthy choices now whether they are thin or not. I was skinny as a kid and everyone thought it was so funny how much I could eat and be thin. It caught up to me and I had a terrible time trying to learn how to control my urges to eat huge amounts of food and often. I've fought my…
  • Eat protein for breakfast. I have to have an egg every morning or I want to eat again in two hours.
  • I've suffered from depression for years. I was on medication for a while but it did not help me much. I'm going to tell you that for me, the only thing that works is getting myself to move. I know it is hard. Some days, I don't get off the couch. But there are studies that show exercise, even mild to moderate, can be as…
  • I know how you feel. I am starting on this path and have already had my upsets. But I keep trying. One bad day doesn't break the progress. I quit smoking a few years ago by cutting out one cigarette a day, then two, then four, then allowing only one in the morning and one at night. Then I just stopped. I thought I couldn't…
  • I love cabbage and that soup with a little meat is great. However, without the meat, this is unsustainable. If you want to do it for a day or two you'll probably be successful, but probably not longer than that. Moderation in all things is the key in my opinion. Good luck
  • Thank you for sharing. I found this site this week and am in the process of discovering why I weigh so much. Our stories are similar. I appreciate your sharing. It helps to see your success and to also see how you stuck it out through the hard times. Thanks!
