As far as I know they all use the same population averages. It's tough if you're not near the average. But if you can back out just trends from your data, that's useful. I mainly found the Fitbits useful to motivate me to move more, so most often just focused on steps goals. The TDEEs it spit it out for me were more…

That's what I was going to suggest. Before weighing something make a guess at its weight. Then check and see how close you were. Eventually you get good enough at guessing you won't need to weigh except for periodic spot checks. May as well learn something while you do it. Also pay attention to the calorie levels of items.…

You know your HRM doesn't need it, right? At least I've never heard of one that does. Just trying to save you a buck if money's tight. I've used one for 12 years, it works fine on sweat or just water to wet it at first. :)

Have you added new exercise activities or increased your level or intensity recently? That can mess with the scale for a little while. And since you're looking for encouragement-- Hang in there! Good job so far! :)

I would be tempted to do (b) and adjust my age because that "220 minus age" estimate they use for HR zones is nowhere near my actual max HR anyway. And the HR data is pretty rough estimates, at least on my tests of a Charge HR worn with a Polar HRM. It was sometimes 60bpm lower on the Charge. And I don't think age has…

I would just use a little water or saliva.

I liked it, too, Sarah.

Well, they may have slammed others. I was listening to the podcast that started with the episode where Taj quit, so she's really the only one I heard their take on. Except that they thought Abel (or someone) should've benched Kurt for a knee injury. Which may be true, I don't know. I would think show doctors cleared him…

Actually I did think of a diet plan where you can eat whatever you want without (much) logging. There are two respected every other day, modified fast plans. You eat to satisfaction (ad libitum) on every other day and 500 calories on every other day. It takes a lot of discipline at first and I don't think it'll appeal to…

I remembered the podcast name and tried to listen to it today. I liked it at first, but by 20 minutes through I was so tired of their rambling and then slamming the trainer Jennifer, I shut it off. Too bad, I could use more podcasts.

I think it depends on each person-- how much water is in your foods, how much you exercise, where you live, medications, etc., etc. I like the color chart. Just for clarification-- are the colors referring to the color of the water in the toilet or the color of undiluted urine? I've also heard that you want to avoid cloudy…

Yes, that's true (that you can use points to eat bread and extra fats). I don't eat much bread but I have some high-fiber tortillas that are 50 calories and 1 point. When I did a SF-like plan, avocado was free (might've changed), eggs were free, nuts and milk were not but skim was cheap. 49 points does go fast if you're…

It's all an estimate. Even if you carry a food scale around and deconstruct your meals. The diner estimates. The food databases are estimates of the average roast beef, etc.

I've never weighed an egg. I log it as it's size/grade. If one is small or larger than the average egg of its grade, it evens out over time. I believe machines weigh them to classify the grade.

I don't think it's possible. If you lose 1% of your weight per week, the recommended maximum (and that's challenging), that's 2-3 lbs. 20 weeks times 3 lbs. = 60 lbs, 298-60=238 lbs. So even with maximum (safe) losses I think you'd still be a ways from size 16. But I'm not 5'10", so I don't know that for sure. But do go…

Look up some visual estimation cues. I think an ounce of sliced meat or cheese is around the size of a CD. So if your sandwich had say four bread-sized roast beef slices, that's around 4 oz. The palm of your hand or a deck of cards is also around 4 oz. (I'm sorry, you'll have to convert to grams.)

I don't know of any diet plans that allow you to fairly freely eat bread and fats and also not track. It seems like one of those has got to be very limited, or you have to count everything to keep your portions very small. Good luck!

We call it Paralysis by Analysis. LOL at "blasphemer". I was going to call her "heretic". :p

Again, have you tried WW Simply Filling plan? http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=65271&sc=3002

I tried dancing but my dogs weren't good partners and the neighbors thought it was weird. ;)

I kind of like removable pads. I'm not symmetrical so I can adjust pads to look less so. And when I used to wear a Fitbit One, I would stick it in the cup pocket and slide it to the center of my chest and that thing wasn't going anywhere. Though I'd have to check my phone to see my progress at work. Though I do have a…

It's a pretty new book. I haven't read it yet but it's on my list. His credentials are good. I can't say I disagree with anything in this recent article on the topic. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/2015/12/16/dr-david-ludwig-clears-up-carbohydrate-confusion/

Even aim for the gray sometimes as an exercise in getting comfortable with it. Eat a meal with the wrong portion of veggies and then force yourself right back on track. Sometimes we let our neuroses give us excuses to give up. Fight back. You know the tendency. You have the power to intervene. There's a brief moment when…

Brushing it off is a good attitude. Remind yourself what other people think of us is none of our business. Though if it's a recurring issue and you're not just being over-sensitive I would mention it to the owner, I'm sure he'd want to know. That really unprofessional. Is it like an Anytime Fitness you can go in 24/7?…

I noticed last night my Costco now has calories listed on the food court menu board. I don't know how right they are. It said the pepperoni pizza had fewer calories than the combo or cheese slice. I guess it's possible. A churro is over 500, I think. Yikes.

IMO: Cycle refers to the entire month. Period refers to the menstrual period. TOM refers to the parts problematic for many dieters: the days before and during the period. I don't love it as an acronym but I can't think of a better term in current use. (Though I don't read those threads because I can't help, not having many…

There is no one official, proper way to estimate your intake (despite some strong opinions here). And it IS all estimates. I lost 50 lbs. to goal weighing no foods. Many, many people don't weigh any foods and lose weight. One's success doesn't mean their way is the only way. Or the right way. I didn't click with Beck,…

There are some decent mug cake recipes out there. I've used this one. http://fitnessista.com/2015/07/grain-free-dairy-free-mug-cake-for-one/

I said "weighing every item they ingest to the gram for months or years."
