OP, I think it's very normal to be very "all or nothing" with this. Just look at how many people here weigh every item they ingest to the gram, and have for months or years. There are things you can do besides diet 100% or 0%. Being aware that it's not right and willing to try new things is important. So good for you! If…

How big of a gym is it? Does it have a cardio area that overlooks the weights areas? Any gym should start you with a simple tour. Sometimes they also offer a free overview of how to use each weight machine. Those can be less intimidating than the free weights. If not and you're intimidated, I would first find a simple…

I got tired of replacing my Blendtec jars every couple years so I took a friend's advice and bought a Ninja ($150) instead. I took it back after a week and got new Blendtec jars instead. It just didn't make green smoothies as smooth, it was huge, it did have to fit together like a puzzle and it was harder to clean, and…

How long was the "not losing" period and how long has the "now I'm losing" period been? To make things even tougher to figure out, sometimes we plateau for no reason we really can tell and it would've broken that week regardless. Maybe if you were still eating at the prior level you'd be losing even faster now. It's just…

Try the 7-Minute Workout app. Still boring but it's over quickly!

Not my biggest pet peeve but an odd one lately: When a poster asks for help and many people take time to post good advice (without jabs), and then the poster comes back and thanks ONE of them. WTH? :s

I was curious so I googled "chia addiction". When the most authoritative site on page 1 is LiveStrong, you know it's not good. But the LiveStrong article did mention a potential heart issue. Not with addiction, just with chia. http://www.livestrong.com/article/155988-negative-health-effects-of-chia-seeds/

I don't think she's been back since the 'get a time machine' advice.

LOL. Four lifetimes? I don't know any women who can do 4, much less 24. (Please don't post video refutations, unless you have video of someone I know. ;) I know there are women with that arm strength. ) Not disagreeing with you, though!

Is it because it's a superfood? I could be missing the memo. THIS JUST OUT: Pluto again a planet! Cauliflower now a superfood!

I have the Twister Jar, which is made for nut butters and thick stuff but it works fine for individual smoothies, too. It's not the type where the blade is separate, though. Which is partly why it's so expensive. I just use it instead of my big jar because it's small to clean and to leave out. I agree with Blendtec and…

Cauliflower prices are up due to cold weather causing a shortage, not because it's a trendy superfood.

Thanks for posting. I'll look for your podcast.

Me too. Especially if money is tight. There are so many other ways to get cardio. A cheap exercise device is usually more of an annoyance than a help.

Dumbbells are fine. Here's a video, if it helps, since you asked the difference between a deadlift and a squat. She's using tiny dumbbells but just for the demo. http://www.prevention.com/fitness/fitness-tips/how-do-deadlift-dumbbells And dumbbell good morning- http://workouts.menshealth.com/exercise/dumbbell-good-morning

I agree. I love mine. It's a $2400 treadmill I picked up for under $400 many years ago. I go months without using it but I like knowing it's always there and if I didn't have one I'd want one. I like incline better than speed. If it's a good deal you can probably sell it for what you paid for it, if you don't use it.

Dumbbells are not unsafe, if used properly. You can do an awful lot without a gym membership or barbell set. You can do an awful lot with just body weight. If kettlebells interest you at all, check out livefitrevolution.org. It's free, full of great info and video workouts, RKC-led, aimed at beginners and women (though not…

Welcome. Do you mean suggestions like pre-prep some meals? Soups are a good thing on Simply Filling. And salads. I pre-prep both. You can put cut greens in mason jars and use a Foodsaver attachment to remove the air and they last like a week.
-
Oh gosh, there is so much out there! Do you like soups? Make a pot of healthy soup and eat it for days. I get a daily emailed recipe from FoodNetwork.com that is good for new ideas sometimes. They're not all low cal ones but some are. Can you pick up a healthy meals cookbook? Or browse recipe review sites? Can you add more…

Everything. Almost literally. Costco coffee fans-- What do you buy? I never know what coffees are good, being new to coffee. I do buy whole beans there and grind them, though. Oh.. or are you getting k-cups?

I thought it was clear I was paraphrasing. No, the WATP thread isn't that bad. It's just sad that about any thread has someone who posts something irrelevant and unhelpful and potentially insulting, like the comments in that one about how 'pound loss is achieved through diet' (i.e., not walking) and 'why don't people walk…

Or a kettlebell or body bar, if they have those.

I have custom neoprene ones from carcoverusa.com. Costco warehouses have a much cheaper, universal version. My sister has those. They don't fit snugly like the customs but both repel moisture great.
-
You're right. And no need to sigh, professor. ;) But toxins in the breakdown of alcohol are what damage liver and brain cells.
-
When someone says, "There's one born every minute," do you know the popular phrase they're referring to?

Nice work, elaine! The new level will feel tough again in a month, I bet. Enjoy it feeling indulgent! And enjoy your Chang-like lunch.

I haven't taken offense. I don't think the thread espoused magical properties of kale. Though the OP did say it was awesome and the thread title was in effect asking who liked it. Maybe that implies magical properties. Magic seems to get thrown around a lot here, when someone doesn't like something. This thread is about…

Good job! I know that there is a lot of talk here about "what toxins" when people mention doing food detoxes, but there are a lot of toxins in things we eat and drink and one of the most toxic is alcohol. That's why it dehydrates us, our body takes a lot of water to flush out the toxins. And why too much can land you in…

Oh, yum, ginger. That sounds good. I don't know if the temp of the soup or the fact you eat it slowly with a spoon matters, but I too am more filled by it. I think it's also pretty accepted that a smoothie is less filling than the identical ingredients eaten in non-blended form.
-
Ironic considering you're the one who suggested people who eat kale are suckers.
